  1. That's also the info on the official webpage of his russian team.
  2. If Kostopoulos is signed to a new contract give him the "C". He has shown his heart deserves being captain and he's one of the leaders of this team.
  3. Anyone of you also excited that Matt Wieters will make his MLB debut on this friday?
  4. Yeah, when Beckett takes the mound during the regular season the Sox end up losing everytime. Halladay pitches in a place where Baseball isn't the no. 1 sport and doesn't have the pressure like Beckett has in Boston. He wasn't an idiot because they still needed him even though he was injured. Colon left the organization, Masterson was needed in the pen, Buchholz already was shut down for the season, so was Bowden. Wakefield was injury plaqued and also had to pitch. Paul Byrd was the long man out of the pen every team needs in the play-offs. So there was no better option than an injured Beckett.
  5. I seriously doubt 30 out of 30 would choose Halladay over Beckett. Beckett is a proven monster in the play-offs while Halladay never had the chance to show what he could do in the play-offs. Last year he played injured during the play-offs. His starts were even shifted back because of his injury.
  6. Yes Josh Beckett. He's still only 28 and wins in the play-offs count the most. He's a clutch pitcher even in the regular season. When his team needs a win and a big outing from him he usually delivers.
  7. I don't think there's a clear no. 1 pitcher out there. A couple of guys can be the best on any given day. It's more a matter of their form on that day. Guys like Santana, Sabathia, Beckett and Halladay can win any game on any day. They are all outstanding pitchers but I just don't see anyone much better on a regular basis than the others. Plus there are a couple of young guns who have pitched extremely well but need to show they can do it over a few seasons. I'm talking about pitchers like Cole Hamels, Jon Lester or Tim Lincecum.
  8. No he isn't. He's one of the best but not the best on the planet.
  9. Here's my prediction: AL East: Red Sox Yankees (Wild Card) Rays Orioles Blue Jays AL Central: Twins Tigers Indians White Sox Royals AL West: Athletics Angels Rangers Mariners NL East: Mets Phillies Marlins Braves Nationals NL Central: Cubs Cardinals Astros Reds Brewers Pirates NL West: Diamondbacks Dodgers (Wild Card) Rockies Giants Padres
  10. Ken Griffey Jr. will return to the Seattle Mariners.
  11. Don't forget the Braves had always a great rotation but there bullpen was mediocre at best. Does anyone remember when the Braves gave javelin thrower Jan Zelezny a try-out?
  12. If the Braves don't expect huge numbers from Griffey it could be a nice signing. I always liked him and especially his swing.
  13. Count me in for Baseball is the greatest sport. The Jays however just have bad luck being in the best division of Baseball. I don't think they will be anywhere near contenders in the next few years. At least not in the AL East. The Yankees and the Red Sox have more money to deal with and the Red Sox also have a deep farm system which allows them to trade for players they need. They Rays are getting better and also have young talent in the minors which is major league ready. And don't forget the Orioles. In 2 or 3 years they have also a good team and with Matt Wieters they have the best prospect in all of baseball. Plus they also have some more bluechip prospects with Tillman, Matusz, Arrieta and Erbe. So the Jays will likely lose too many games to be win this division or secure a wild card but they'll also win too many games to draft in the top 5.
  14. I also liked reading Moneyball but it was not that easy as English isn't my first language.
  15. Wouldn't it be neccessary for Bonds and Clemens to man up themselves and admit they used it first? Oh and in Clemens case I want him to give Dan Duquette an excuse because he was indeed entering the twilight of his career. I'm really looking forward to that tournament. They show the most of the games over here in Europe live on ESPN America so I'm going to see a lot of action.
  16. Being a Red Sox fan myself I don't like the Yankees and A-Rod. I don't like people who cheated and took steroids. But I strongly believe that there also were some Sox players on that list too.
  17. Well this was in 2003 and 103 other players were tested also positive in that year.
  18. His impact and his numbers were huge but it was for only 3 month. During that time Manny knew he had to be a team player and perform well if he wanted to get the contract he was seeking. Especially his behaviour in Boston. Manny was able to be motivated for 3 month because of the dollar signs in his eyes but I doubt he can do this on a daily basis on a 2 or 3 year contract he is seeking. Don't get me wrong, Manny is still a great player when he wants to be and he might be one of the best right-handed hitters of all time. But Manny is a selfish player and nearly each and every player in Boston was happy when he left.
  19. Signing Smoltz would be a great deal. Rocco Baldelli is also expected to sign with the Sox.
  20. But they didn't offer him arbitration which is what they needed to do to sign an extra type A. The good news about the Teixeira signing is, they'll most likely have no room for Pujols in 2011. Without a doubt is Teixeira a great player. But he's no Hall of Famer but he got a contract like a HoF player.
  21. Teixeira signs with the Yankees.
  22. Furcal may be switched to 2nd base.
  23. Kelly Shoppach was also part of that deal and he was a good Sox prospect and turned out way better than Marte.
  24. The Red Sox don't just buy a good team they have a lot of home-grown talent. Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Lowrie, Papelbon, Masterson, Lester, Delcarmen, Bowden and Buchholz were all drafted by the Sox. They traded for Beckett and Lowell their blue-chip prospect Hanley Ramirez. Now they added some bullpen help with Ramon Ramirez when they dealt away Coco Crisp who they also got for prospects in after 2005. The Red Sox are not a team full of free agents. They even traded for Varitek when he was still in the minors. The Sox have one of the better farm systems and look at some prospects they traded away in the last few years. Nearly everyone made his way. Hanley Ramirez (a perennial MVP candidate), Kelly Shoppach, David Murphy, Brandon Moss, Kason Gabbard, Cla Meredith, Freddy Sanchez (won a batting title), Craig Hansen and Annibal Sanchez all became major leaguers.
  25. The Phillies have signed Rauuuuuuuuuuul Ibanez to 4 year contract worth 30 million dollar.
