  1. Yup outside of the top 3 ... the next 4 picks we're all a mystery. Most thought Zadina would go 3rd, but like you say Ted a lot had us picking KK (who if we didn't pick him all predicted would go 5th). KK being the top rated Center and our obvious need at the time (predating the NS trade). And what's funny, if we'd picked Zadina would we have been that far ahead from KK? 6g13a in 49games this past season for him. I think many are over valuing Tkachuk because he came into a team where he was thrust into the top 6 whether he was ready or not. KK on the other hand was slotted in the bottom 6 from the start. Hindsight is awesoe, and maybe Tkachuk performs as well or better on the Habs playing the same role ... but we did not have an organizational need at the time. If we were picking a winger Zadina was projected as that guy, Hughes as the D and KK as the C with all three being roughly valued the same.
  2. Still choked they let KK go ... the only way this gets salvaged is if somehow Poehling out develops his expectations Suzuki - Dvorak - Poehling - Evans, if Poehling can turn into a 40ptish strong two-way guy is fine. I think KK has a break out year, and puts up decent numbers now that he's away from the toxic management so its going to take a bit more from Dvorak/Poehling to take that sting off. What galls me still is that we potentially had 1st and 2nd C locked up for the next decade in NS and KK ... and in the year we let Danault walk, we get blindside by the Canes offer. This is the Aho offer coming back to to bite MB plain and simple. Without that offer we likely sign KK to a reasonable "Show me" bridge deal.
  3. My take ... is if Dvorak replaces Danault ... that still leaves a hole at C. We lost KK and Danault ... and replaced it with Dvorak (for Danault) and Paquette/Evans/Poehling for KK That's a downgrade in roster regardless of your arguements for Dvorak's worth vs Kotkaniemi Suzuki / KK / Evans / Poehling looks better to me on paper if KK performs than Suzuki / Dvorak / Evans / Poehling
  4. Yup KK wanted to be here, but the Habs through their actions and inactions showed him they didn't value him at all
  5. Suzuki had a 20-25 game streak where he got no points, or at best 1-2 Assists total and Habs management just kept throwing him out there with the best wingers ... so yeah, no it wasn't Kotkaniemi's indifferent play it was managements bizarre treatment of its young players
  6. There is no scenario where losing Kotkaniemi for Dvorak improves us They ran a young player out of town through mismanagement, devaluing and misusing him. Dvorak is and will only ever be a 3rd line center ... he's 25 and realistically has hit his cieling.
  7. When it comes to MB I firmly believe every "good move" was pure dumb luck on his part ... he's shown consistently he has no plan or vision for this team beyond muddle through with some whack job idea that "all you need to do is squeek into the playoffs" Caufield as the example ... it was dumb luck that 14 other teams passed on him when most scouts were very high on his talent.
  8. 1) He drafted Galchenyuk, then obliterated his value before finally trading him 2) Sergachev for Drouin ... enough said 3) Caufield ... he lucked out that nobody else took a chance on him and got him later in the draft. There is no wizardry here from MB 4) Suzuki ... again lucked out ... he wasn't even the player from VK he wanted 5) Petry ... again lucked out ... as an Edmonton resident, the Petry we got is NOT the Petry MB signed ... if we got Petry like he was with Oilers, you'd have all been angry 6) Romanov is a 2nd round pick who hasn't proved anything yete 7) We made the finals in the easiest division, in the easiest year to do so ... and got embrassed by TBay. In a normal year the Habs with our record and roster would not have made the playoffs, nevermind the finals With the offer sheet, if we fail to match and I suspect we don't match, we go from having potentially our 1C/2C sorted out and potentially not caring we lost Danault to hurting down the middle yet again. You don't just throw away big centers with offensive upside and shrug it off. Marc should have lost his job before this previous season, should have lost his job a few times now but Molson keeps him around. Now we're about to lose a top prospect in JK due to cap mismanagement and his own ego thinking his offer sheet to Aho was bullet proof.
  9. This comes down to MB mishandling his youth, mishandling his cap and lettting another team take advantage of both issues.
  10. Was he though? That's the entire issue ... Habs management played Eric "no longer elite" Staal over him in the playoffs in the last 2 games. They consistently dumped on KK, shuffled him around the lineup for struggling etc ... but then left Suzuki on the top line with top wingers for a 20 game stretch where he got no points. (reg season). I think from KK's perspective that even though the math pointed to him being 2C or 1B behind Suzuki there is strong evidence to show the Habs will willingly play an inferior product over you at times (Staal etc)
  11. It's hard to fly like an eagle when you're stuck with turkeys. You can put a liptstick on a pig but its still a pig. You keep sticking guys like Byron, Lehkonen, and the other plugs with KK and yeah, he can only make them look better so much. In the playoffs for example there were at least a dozen really great passes KK made to a guy with stones for hands who then proceeded to cough up the puck
  12. From Eric Engels : I know there’s been a lot of buzz about Montreal and Jack Eichel. I’ve got friends asking me every hour about it. Believe the Canadiens have poked around, but have been told they’re not heavily invested in acquiring him. Things can change fast, as always, but not sure they will.
  13. Because we should live in a society where there are ramifications for your actions and ramification for being a shitty human being. Should he never get to play prohockey? Not saying that ... should teams have shunned him and possibly made his route to making hockey a career that much harder? Yes. Far too often fame, money or power and you get to walk scot free from your actions. And that'll be fine as well ... as that would be the paying the consequences for his actions instead of jumping to the NHL and making close to a million a year.
  14. Devils advocate .... if Weber is out and all we can get is Ristoleinen then Chiarot - Petry Edmundson - Risto Romanov - Kulak/Brook Might actually work, but Hamilton as a UFA and no assets is better
  15. Yeah boggles the mind when you consider Knights and their draft. Given who Kraken have taken they're likely a bottom team ... is there an up and coming superstar next year to draft?
  16. Or they were as much in dark us anybody and decided to not take the chance and instead select somebody who will in fact play
  17. The rumor I read is that Price asked to be exposed. Both he and Weber gave ultimatums to MB before the start of 2019/2020 season which was cut short by Corona. I can dig around for the interview. Everything in my opnion is pointing to Weber deciding to hang it up and Price deciding to get out of Montreal as they had their chance this year and likely won't make the finals again next year. Kraken have nothing to lose here. They select Price ... if he's injured he's on LTIR and doesn't hurt their cap. If he's not, they get the guy who most analysts agree is the best goalie in the league. If Price retires, there's no cap payback either. The moment Price was exposed, I was confident Kraken are going to take him and its a new era in Montreal.
  18. Given Weber going down and other changes the Habs window with Price seems to have shut, or is shutting. His wife is from the state of Washington, he's from the west coast ... it all kind of makes sense. I'm also reminded of comments he and Weber made pre-covid about winning it in the next 2-3 years and implied wanting out of MTL if it didn't happen
  19. Rumor is we've exposed Price
  20. I think Eichel is overhyped ... and I'd rather keep NS/KK as our future 1/2 guys and build around them ... espcially now that Weber is done, we should be going on a youth movement and aiming for 2-4 years from now.
  21. Friedman ... think it was him, saying Habs are courting Eichel and Landeskog hard with various names going the other way including KK and multiple picks.
  22. Nothing that confirms he's announced his retirement ... just that he "needed time to assess"
  23. Given the peculiar nature of his LTIR ... his trade value is probably nill as most teams are going to what some serious assurances he will in fact play. He miiiight have limited value to a team trying to make the salary floor, but reality is he's untradeable at the moment for all practical purposes.
  24. The whole "cap cheating" and "ref bias" thing ... lets be blunt, the Habs just aren't very good ... period. They lose game 5 One to Zip ... you can't win if you don't score. Did the cap thing and ref bias make it harder for the Habs? Yes. Did they lose on a biased call tonight? no ... they lost because they simply can't score ... despite the miracle run when you got Staal and Perry getting regular shifts, we kept playing Merrill far too long, the list goes on and on They're just a mediocre team.
