  1. First off all... DONT TRADE GALCHENUYK...i will say it again, and again, and again...His value is at a low point right now just because no one really knows his true potential yet...dont do what the Bruins did with Seguin...top line C, LW, or whatever we WONT add a true No1 Center by trading him, in any way...i actually found this year to be ideal in the future contract negotiations...we can obviously resign him at another bridge contract, or offer him a longer contract much more Cap friendly. This time around we have leverage in the negotiations and we must take advantage of it. Slot him as our 2nd line LWer and go from there... Secondly... WE MUST GET RID OF PLEKANEC...do whatever it takes, and i mean whatever...he is not a top 6 player anymore and is already surpassed from Danault in the depth chart. 6M trapped like this in a salary cap era is going to sink us to mediocrity for another year. Expose him at the expansion draft, maybe sweeten the pot for Vegas, trade him, retire him, do whatever it takes for him to not be in the lineup when the puck drops for the 17/18 season...dont even consider retaining him because we are a couple of C short for next year. Admit it and go on. We have to realize that we are without a 1C and 2C player. Begin planning with this fact in your mind. Is there any player within the system capable to fill the spot? Radulov? Lekhonen? McCarron? Hudon? These are questions management have to answer asap. No light at the UFA pool either, dont make a mistake there non less. I am going once again to suggest an offer sheet for one of the available RFA, but i already know how that sounds...unlikely... We are, no doubt, in a very tough situation. Usually, when you are cornered like that, you make all the false moves you can, like considering moving Galchenuyk for Stepan or JT Miller...lets hope we dont make a move like this, although im not very optimistic. I'd rather we trade Price or Max and go for a quick rebuild than, make such moves. Shipachev was a great option in my mind, but we let that boat sail away. If we take a gamble {again?} i would opt to target players with potential that havent yet panned out with their teams like Bennett CGY, Strome NYI, Reinhart BUF among others. Another route is try to force the hand of a team with Cap problems like CHI {Anisimov?}, CBJ {Jenner, Wennberg?}, MIN {Granlund, Coyle?}. ...not very optimistic this time around folks...
  2. No Stepan for me...i wouldnt ever consider trading for the Plekanec clone... JT Miller is actually a player i like and i think he could fit in our team, but you dont trade Galchenuyk for him...If the Rangers are going to consider taking Stepan out of the conversation, and adding a player like for example Skjei to JTMiller, as a package, then i would be all ears... Mark Bergevin has to be very carefull if he opts to trade Galchenuyk. After the aftermath of the Subban/Weber trade, and if you are up for another blockbuster trade, you better make sure you are on top of it and dont get fleeced again. I mean the original MTL/NYR rumor was Stepan+ for Galchenuyk and that alone simply doesnt cut it Mr. Bergevin...no matter the +....
  3. At our draft track now... I am not going to rate Timmins, although i am going to be rather sceptical about his success... 2007: McDonaugh, Pacioretty, Subban {best picks} 2008: No 1st rounders but Kristo better than Hayes, Lehtera, Stone, Smith, Henrique, Holtby, TJ Brodie, Nyquist, Smith, Demers, Bartkowsky... 2009: No 18 they picked Lablanc and missed on Kreider, Johansson, Palmieri, Silfveberg, Roussel, Orlov, Barrie, Cizikas, Savard, Ekholm, Vatanen, Hoffman, Lee... 2010: No22 they picked Tinordi and missed on Kuznetsov, Coyle, Nelson, Faulk, Toffoli, Klingberg, Stone... 2011: No17 they picked Beaulieu and missed on Klefbom, Jenner, Saad, Kucherov, Trocheck, Gaudreau, Pageau, Manson, Palat... 2012: Galchenuyk {best pick} but Colberg and Thrower made them miss on Severson, Vesey, Lindell, Gostisbehere, Parayko, Athanasiou, Slavin... 2013-2017 all are prospects that havent yet reached full potential to evaluate... in my mind only 2007 was a success...too many quality left over...
  4. Some interesting thoughts... Max Pacioretty: He is the No 30 in top LWers based on salary {4.5M} but No 6 in points {67 pts} and No 3 in goals {35 g} Alexander Radulov: He is the No 12 in top RWers based on salary {5,75M} but No 14 in points {54 pts} and No 29 in goals {18 g} Albeit these facts most want to resign Radu at any cost and trade away Pacioretty... This team's problem is production from C centers, and consistent secondary scoring {Shaw?} To this core you have to add not trade away...and let young players develop further {Galchenuyk, Gallagher, Lekhonen} The only forward to move is Plekanec No 28 in salary {6M} but No 111 in points {28} and No 118 in goals {10}....atrocius...
  5. Its highly unlikely he gets to the market...they will resign him and he is going to get paid...franchise players tend to stay loyal especially at this age...just look at Stamkos...
  6. Just a rare thought i want to share... What if we put McCarron on D? I think he can be a very good stay at home defensemen, something like Chara...maybe he can develop, who knows? I know its hard to adjust since he probably havent ever played at D but why not give him that chance...it would take some major summer adjusts, non less... thoughts?
  7. Going after a centerman? Whats new? UFA MARKET Thornton? Past his prime...Hanzal? Dont even bother...Shipashov? Not signing here...Bonino? Gagner? Boyle? Ryan?...Not top C material....Hey, maybe Davey D is the best left available... TRADES The only teams that might be willing to trade top C away are rebuilding teams. Its honestly a very shallow bin to go shopping with. DUCHENE, might be available for the right price, McKINNON is unlikely, SPEZZA doesn't like highly pressured markets, CARTER maybe if LA rebuilds, and some others like STAAL, NUGENT-HOPKINS, KOIVU, SEDIN, the availability of whom is uncertain for now. From all the above Duchene is the most likely and we already know the asking price...Sergachev and a 1st round pick. If you want to win now, you do the trade, if you want to build, you dont. Personally, i would do the trade, only if COL was willing ta take Plekanec's contract back. Why not go after a player with potential that hasn't make his team yet, or is stuck in his team stracture, like STROME, BENNETT, REINHART? They too will cost much, but i cant stop thinking that they may be better options for the future. Finally why not find teams in Cap hell and offersheet a player, that fills your needs. I know its unlikely but imagine Wennberg from CBJ or Granlund from MIN. I would add Druin from TBL but he is not a center... ...just my thoughts for the center quest...
  8. If MB thinks that Galchenuyk is a LWer then we have two top centers to go after...Obviously Plekanec isn't the solution and Danault is a stop gap. Thats why the Duchene proposal. I agree its awful to trade Sergachev away, but as i posted above, its contending now time, for various reasons. Sure Sergachev might be a gem but you have to take the gamble or rebuild. There is no C UFA market this year, and the only other option i see is convinsing Shipachov to sign, but thats a long shot and uncertain, production wise....As for the D prospects in our pipeline, i really like Juulsen, and i think Lernout has made big strides this year, although i have a feeling that our next top talent is a guy called Mete. We will see how things unfold... Hudon...Did he deserve a chance? Absolutely...Is he a NHL caliber player? It remains to be proven. In all honesty though, i dont see him being better than Andrighetto, and we all saw how that panned out. Can he play center? I think he plays LW better and we already have a longjam there. Non less, the worst thing is to give away a prospect that blossoms elsewhere. Take away Hudon and maybe add Carr to my proposal. Vegas would probably do this trade also because the concept is they take one of the most reliable NHL G backup, without needing to burn an expansion selection from another team. Add to this that Emelin will truly help in a very physical division and has only one year left to his contract. Win, win situation... PS.1 Quite suprised no comments at the offersheet scenario. I thought there would be negativity twards my opinion, since its fairly unlikely and extremely rare, to see such GMs actions. I still cant figure out why... PS.2 I was a regular poster here a couple of years ago. It used to be fun...the sharing, debating, planning...but due to various reasons its my first post for about two years now...Where did everybody go? It used to be a crowded place here and now only one reply? Sad...Lets bring life to the FORUM...
  9. There are really only two options right now... You either think that you can resign Price to a friendly contract extension about 8M, and you try to find ways to improve this club or this is the time you blow it all up and try the rebuilding route. Obviously MB isn't in a position to blow it up, because he already has 5 years under his belt, and i dont think fans would have the needed support a 3 to 4 years rebuild, requires. MB would be long gone before any St.Cathrines parade, in this situation. So we should probably expect, the same players back, with a twinkering or two to be made. After the Webber/Subban trade i would be very suprised to see MB pulling a major deal either. The only major trade i could see is the Duchene for Sergachev + 2017 1st pick, but this would take MB to admit he made a mistake not doing this earlier. Thats why my propositions in this topic will include the retooling process and not the rebuilding, albeit the likes of Price, Weber and Pacioretty would fetch a great return and great options down the road, draft wise. So, what do we really have in the lineup... PRICE. A top goaltender in the league, a block you build around, but in a cap world and with so much cash going to defenders you cant afford him if his salary is well above 8M. Begin negotiations now and offer 64M for 8 years. I think being one of the top paid goalie in the league is a starter but you cant go above 8,5M. Its a recipe for disaster because we can not afford a decent supporting cast for him. {1st G} MONTOYA. A decent backup but we must expose him, for Vegas to bite, plus i'm quite comfident with giving Lindgren a shot in his place. PACIORETTY. Can you seriously trade away a 30 goal scorer, in an offense starved team? No, no and no. A lot of goals for a great contract. What you do is finding someone to play with him. Definitely...{1st line LW} RADULOV. Very impressive player...I suspect he might be a loyal guy too...Begin negotiations asap...In his exit interview i had the feeling he wants to resign, albeit his agents comments for testing free agency. Offer 5,75M for 6 years now. i expect him to be a bull even at the age of 37...A lock {1st line RW}. GALCHENUYK. Is he a winger or a center? Who cares...The fact is he is talented...If he is a LW then i believe he can deliver and we could have the best LW lineup in the league, with Max, Arturri and Byron. If he is a center, we can only benefit from the depth. Either way he is an asset. The best thing that happened was that now MB can probably negotiate a contract extension, bridge deal, perform to get paid, maybe 3,75M for 2 years? 3 years at 4M would be also great. A lot of flexibility...{2nd line LW} GALLAGHER. In Gally we trust...The 2017 Gally of course...Actually the after March Gally...Honestly, slumps come and go, heart and soul dont. Decent contract, i'm personally not concerned of him declining. Good for 25G/25A seasons...{2nd line RW} LEKHONEN. What a two way player...We will see even more soon enough...entry level deal for a couple more years...He can excell as a 3rd line LW and can come up to the 2nd line LW spot, if needed. Great hockey IQ, one of our best picks recently...{3rd line LW} DANAULT. Another decent two way player. Obviously he is not a top line center but is great at 3rd line duties and even 2nd line duties if needed, same as Lekhonen. Very good contract lets see what the future brings with him...{3rd line C} SHAW. This is a tough one...Since its his first year i'll give him a vote of confidence. A lot of money for what he brings, lets hope he can bring his A game soon. Production wise not a top 6 forward, and quite expensive for a depth player. One more year to tell...{3rd line RW} PLEKANEC. A life time Canadien...Past his prime, i dont think he is capable of playing top 6 C minutes anymore...I hate to say this but its time to let go. Leave him exposed for Vegas or be creative of dealing this contract. The 6M are far more valuable than a so so season from him. Danault makes him exposable...{trade/expose him} BYRON. A true bargain. Great contract, great versatility, he can play anywhere...and all this for pennies...In a 4 line league he can be deadly at special teams and against lower competition. A key player for planing the best 4th line in the league, can afford bigger roles also...{4th line RW} MITCHELL. He was better last year. He makes 1,2 M for one more year. If he regains form he is good enough to be trusted for the 4th line...His experience might be needed down the road so i would rather keep him, if Vegas doesn't pick him up.{depth player} KING / OTT / MARTINSEN / FLYNN. Dont resign any of them. WEBER. Was i excited about THE TRADE? No. Am i excited one year after? Well i expected things to be worse, but i expect to be crying if PK hoists the Cup this year with Nashville. What a game of fate would that be...Not a time to trade Weber...yet, we will probably revisit this later on. {1st RD} PETRY. For his role he is probably OK. Not impressed, but OK. Obviously the right side of our D is our strong side. I hope he keeps elevating his game. {2nd RD} MARKOV. Another lifetime Hab. Although i expected his play to regress this year he proved me wrong...Does he always? Its time to prove that he is a true soldier. The plan should be...play until you want and then join the staff...For next year take a 4M contract, and go from there. {2nd LD} EMELIN. Not enough quality for top line minutes, very expensive bottom liner. Should be exposed and maybe Vegas bites...probably wont so explore trade options. Like Plekanec the 4,1M are more valuable than his services. BENN. Many where impressed at the beginning but not me...If we retain him, he should only be a bottom liner with a physical edge. We cant afford to lose both Emelin and Benn, but we cant afford to keep both either. Similar players and one has a way better contract. {3rd RD/LD} BEAULIEU. I cant figure out whats wrong. I get the impression that a change of scenery is needed. Not developing at all. I trully hoped for him to be paired with Weber, but his play is sub par most of the season. With Markov, Benn, Davidson, Jerabek even if Emelin leaves i find no place for him except with Weber. The issue is he has low value now so a trade might not be wise. I'd rather ride him with Weber for one more year 1,75M keep money for next years UFA like Vlasic, Fowler and Carlson. DAVIDSON. Another LD that didn't impresses me. I trully expect he is the one that Vegas pick up from us, because McFee always was keen of him. If he stays then probably would be a depth player {expose/depth} JERABEK. Too early to judge...Depth player with potential i guess {depth or 3rd LD/RD} NESTEROV. Is he an NHLer? Tough to say...Is he willing to take a two way contract and play in Laval? If yes...resign...if not...explore trade. {AHL/RFA trade} LINDGREN / DE LA ROSE / HUDON / MATTEAU / FRIBERG. Resign all of them THROWER / CRISP / HANLEY / JOHNSTON / McMILLAN / LOWE. 10. Dear hatethoseleafs...you have what...over 20000 posts, i believe. Trully respectfull number, but you know one day, not very long ago you probably had 800 like me...It seems like you have forgotten of that situation, otherwise your response would have been more comforting. I know you guys are not machines, but i find it quite difficult to believe no one saw the questionable post. And even if they didn't, evaluating the circumstances they should let my repost on board, it wasn't more against the rules than the original one. As for the solution. Why report anything (i really dont know how what so ever)? I can stop posting at all, avoiding such classless enviroment...
  11. I dont think you are a mod yet Weeps...thanks for the information but i trully look forward to what THE MODS have to say about it...and while at it, i wonder how you would feel if such matter occured to you? Probably you wouldn't rush at their defense, i guess...
  12. Yesterday in the "if i was the GM" topic i had un high tempered debate with another member of this forum. He replied to my post in a rather insultely way, completely focused on the poster and not the post. I was suprised to see that no further mod actions were involved, and the replied post stayed an site for over an hour. Even more suprised, i was when i took action in responding to the post accordingly. Within less than five minutes my response was edited and so was the original repost. I am wondering, why aren't all members treated the same way? If mods thought that the original post was not worth editing at the first place, why did they take action immidiately after my response, and they didn't let my response on line for the same amount of time. Actions like this should be thoroughly investigated. No, i dont think that both posts should be on this thread, and actually think that both posters deserved an official warning, but you have to treat all members the same way, otherwise anyone that reads this post can come to false conclussions about backing out from a debade, or letting insults flow around, unanswered... Very sad to see such matters unfold...
  13. I agree...its all just speculation. On to next year. GO HABS GO.
  14. Very proud of the turnover season, from 15th to 2nd in the East is a pretty huge accomplishment, congrats and give credit to the team for that. Quite disappointed though for the 1st round exit, not because we went down by Ottawa, but how we went down. In order the reasons we went down, were Ottawa's opportunistic play, weak Montreal goaltending, and very bad officating. Non less i would have been happier if we managed to stretch the series to 7 games. A few more points though. I cant stop thinking that in an 82 games season we wouldn't have been the No2 at the Conference. Probably a 5th, 6th seed, even 7th, because as the season progressed i felt that from game 40 and until the end we played 50% and even lower, rate of winning hockey. It was a slump, no doubt, and in a full season, this slump would probably carry until the 60th game, a mark in which the team would gain the form back, entering the post season in full steam. So i am not that sure that we benefited the most of the shortened season. I'm not so sure also that we benefited the most of our playoff opponent draw, either. I think that Toronto would have been a better match up. Not easy, but i think we would have eliminated them. Even if you strech a series at 7 games, experience does matter (all 5 teams that have last won the Cup, are still in the playoffs CHI,LAK,DET,PIT,BOS), and the Leafs are not an experienced team. We would have a blowouts series with them, but with us standing on top at the end. Of course its all pure speculation, but just wondering...
  15. After the end of the season here are my personal gradings of our roster: Pacioretty A- Desharnais C Gallagher A Bourque B- Plekanec B Gionta C+ Galtsenyuk A Eller A Ryder B- Prust A White C Moen D+ Dumont C- Armstrong C- Halpern C+ Blunden C+ Subban A+ Markov C+ Emelin A- Gorges C+ Diaz C Bouillion C Tinordi B+ Beaulieu B- Pateryn B- Webber D Kaberle D Drewiske C Price B- Budaj B- Therrien B+ Bergevin A-
  16. I think that the choosen Canadian goalies will be Luongo/Smith/Ward. I actually have a feeling neither Subban or Price will be selected, which will be something team Canada regrets big time...
  17. 1ST STAR: PK SUBBAN 2ND STAR: BRENDAN GALLAGHER 3RD STAR: BRANDON PRUST notable mention: ALEX GALTSENYUK
  18. Our 3rd periods in this series was just atrocious...conditioning?
  19. Dear Feaster and the rest of respectfull Calgary's management team... Since i guess its still Christmas, and after witnessing your generocity at the gift you offered to the Pens fans, is it too much for a Hab fan like me to have a similar gift request? I know by now, that you will do the best you can, to make my request come true. So can you please trade me Bouwmeester for Kaberle and your own 2nd round pick in 2013? Thank you in advance... A poor Hab fan...
  20. If we break this trade down Iginla was traded for PIT 1st (28th-30th overall) + two NCAA prospects drafted in the 3rd and 5th round of the 2009-2010 draft year respectably. This means we could actually claim Iginla for CGY 2nd (30th-33th overall) +McMillan+Clichy. From the above we all can see how bad Calgary got bended again. Lets all vote Feaster for GM of the world. Of course some can argue that Feaster had no leverage in negotiations, but if i recall right Iginla had listed 4 teams as trade destinations, and the offer Boston made, if true (BOS 1st+Bartkowski/Caron+Kockhlatsev) was a way better offer. So, i guess we are talking about a huge Pens gift...Maybe Feaster thinks his job isn't safe, pretty much, and has an eye on Ray Shero's assistant GM spot...
  21. Feeling better already, i guess i am not at the penalty box after all...
  22. Good morning, i just realized that when i post (i dont have an avatar) there are referenses about my warns, along with the number of my posts and my classification (veteran). After a quick look at some of the threads i havent seen any warns about other posters. I guess i am the only bad boy at this forum? I strongly suggest that these matters stay strictly personal...
