Maxim Trunev

Position: Right Wing/Left Wing

Shoots: Right

Height: 5'11

Weight: 174

Birthdate: 9-7-90

Hometown: Kirovo-Chepetsk, Russia

Acquired: 2008 Draft, 5th round, 138th overall

Strengths

Is said to be highly skilled with the puck, good skating and foot speed. Was MVP of the MAC Midget tournament in Calgary. Played one game in the RSL this year, currently is the Habs youngest prospect. Could play in the CHL next season.

Weaknesses

Likely needs to add strength and mass to his frame, is said to hold onto the puck for too long, needs to use his linemates better and more often.

From Habs Prospects.com

Hmm, so he is the youngest guy we have, supposedly highly skilled and an implied puckhog. His contract status is currently unknown, but I wonder what kind of attitude this kid has. If he moves to the CHL right away and works hard he might turn out good.

Wonder if he could grow another inch and if his frame is wide enough to gain 20 more pounds...

i heard that if he had continued his progression and had gone into next years draft (due to age), he might have gone first round. He's really young, maybe the youngest guy in the draft. Hopefully he pulls through for us.

In all seriousness, our drafting team has indicated that they're wary of drafting Russian prospects. They must have really liked this kid to have drafted him. I can't remember whether I read it or someone said it, but apparently the European/Russian scout was adamant that we draft him. It will be interesting to see what happens and how good he turns out to be.

Timmins said that our European scouts were "really pushing hard on him." He also mentioned that they plan the same route that Sergei Kostitsyn took by coming over to play in the OHL.

He will most likely be drafted in the CHL import draft coming up next week (June 26th). I'm just hoping he ends in the OHL or the WHL, where he can develop the physical and defensive aspect of the game, something I don't think he would be able to do in the QMJHL.

In my opinion it's

OHL: 3-2-3

WHL: 1-3-2

QMJHL: 2-1-1

QMJHL is all out offense, no defense. Worst learning place for a defensively challenged player.

OHL combines the offense with some defense.

WHL has the toughness, the rough stuff with the defense.

Crossing my fingers that he gets into the Q, and plays for the Halifax Mooseheads.

So QMJHL must suck then if its just offence. He better be drafted in the import draft to ohl or whl.

I hope he comes to the Edmonton Oil Kings!!! I hope he comes to the WHL. It seems like more of a physical style to me, and for a young Russian player to come to North America, i can see it being a great place to start on the learning curve.

I'd like to see him with the London Knights. Those people would probably know what to do with a guy like him.

Here's what I was able to find through a Russian blog (suprisingly): http://macstournament.ab.ca/tournament_6.html

Max scored 2 goals to help his team to a 7:0 win in the finals against the Vancouver NW Giants (I don't think it's the same team that won the Memorial Cup, but it'd be nice...)

I'll post more of what I can find on the cyrilc web. ;)

As I'm reading into this he also added an assist and 4 PIM for Slashing and Goalie interference.

“I think Maxim Trunev will prove to be the steal of this draft,” predicted Timmins about his fifth-round pick. “I see him taking the same route as Sergei Kostitsyn. Even though no Canadian Junior team has acquired Maxim’s rights yet, it won’t be long before teams starting fighting over him.”

Another great job by Mr. Timmins!

For that MAC AAA international tournament I posted above. Max's stats were GP: 7 G: 5 A: 4 P: 9 PIM: 24

He's quite a trouble maker
