Detroit 4 Boston 1.  Jordan Zimmerman shuts down Boston on one run and four hits over six innings.  The bullpen came through for a change.  Detroit turned two double plays and Shane Greene caught Brock Holt looking at a two seam fastball to end the seventh.  Boston also stranded a runner at second base in the second inning.  Eduardo Rodriguez left fastballs over the plate to Jose Iglesias and James McCann that cleared the bullpen.

Detroit 2 Boston 1.  Justin Verlander makes adjustments on his curveball and changeup to compensate for a lack of command on his fastball to limit the Red Sox to one run on three hits in seven innings of work.  Boston loaded the bases with one out in the second with the help of an error on a potential doubleplay grounder, but got only one run when Detroit was able to turn a doubleplay.  Boston starter was not able to get the third out in the eighth and would leave a fastball over the plate to Nick Castellanos for the game winning single.  A fastball over the plate in the sixth inning resulted in a home run by Ian Kinsler.

Detroit 2 Minnesota 1.  Matt Boyd shuts down Minnesota on one hit in six innings mixing the fastball with changeups and curveball.  The bullpen struggled once again needing an inning ending doubleplay in the seventh to bail out Kyle Ryan.  Francisco Rodriguez fell behind on the count on the first three batters in the inning in allowing three hits and one run.  Mikie Mahtook cut off the ball in the right center field gap to prevent an RBI single from becoming an RBI double.  Otherwise, a bloop single down the left field line might have tied the game.

Detroit 5 Minnesota 3.  Kyle Gibson fails to adjust through the second in the batting order against Detroit and pays with a five run fourth inning by the Tigers.  Andrew Romine sat on a 1-2 slider for a grand slam to complete the scoring.  Detroit turned two twin killings, but Alex Wilson struggled with control walking two batters in the ninth before getting the final out.

Minnesota 11 Detroit 5.  Jordan Zimmerman struggles with command in walking five batters in 4 2/3 innings of work,  two of them coming after 0-2 counts.  Anibal Sanchez continued his habit of serving up gopher balls; both of them coming with two men on.  Zimmerman gave one on a hanging curveball.

Detroit 7 Cleveland 6.  Detroit's bullpen nearly wastes an outstanding effort by starter Daniel Norris, though he walked four batters.  Two relievers got only one batter out and fastball over the Lonnie Chisenhall in the bottom of the ninth left the ballpark with the bases loaded to cut the lead to 7-6.  Fastballs over the plate to Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila accounted for five of Detroit's runs.

Cleveland 13 Detroit 6.  Detroit essentially pitches batting practice as they would have difficulty keeping Cleveland in the ballpark.  Justin Verlander surrendered three long balls and reliever Anibal Sanchez one.  Two were two run shots and two were three run bombs.

Tampa Bay 8 Detroit 1.  Mistakes on Daniel Norris' fastball, defensive lapses, and Erasmo Ramirez working both sides of the plate doom Detroit.  A throwing error allowed the tying run to score for Tampa Bay.  Tyler Collins misplayed a flyball into a double and allowed another ball to get past him for a triple.  Norris also misplayed a foul that he should allowed firstbaseman Alex Avila to catch though he appeared to overrun the ball.  Reliever Warwick Saupold continued the bullpen's tendency to allow the longball surrendering three of them, all solo shots.

Minnesota 6 Detroit 3.  Justin Verlander loses the strike zone in the sixth and the bullpen allowed two inherited runners to score in a six run Minnesota inning.  Verlander walked six in all and the first three in the sixth before Joe Jimenez put a fastball over the plate to Eddie Rosario that capped the Twins' six run inning.

Detroit 5 Minnesota 4.  The longball and failure by Minnesota's bullpen give Detroit the win.  Detroit's bullpen pitched well enough to hold off the Twins, though Blaine Hardy allowed the tying run to score and closer Francisco Rodriguez surrendered a longball, another recurring problem with Detroit's bullpen.
