Cleveland 4 Detroit 0.  Mike Clevinger shuts down Detroit on three hits in six innings of work as they continued to chase sliders out of the strike zone.  Detroit would get only one hit against Cleveland's bullpen and would also fail to advance runners.  Ian Kinsler was picked off first base in the fourth.  Bruce Rondon left pitches over the plate in the eighth to eliminated a possible Detroit comeback in the ninth.

Same old story for the last couple of seasons.

What does Bard Ausmus accomplish by having Fulmer pitching today? He got put into the All-Star Game, and I think they should allow him to showcase himself. Upton is going in his place, although Fulmer will attend the festivities.

Detroit 5 Cleveland 3.  Michael Fulmer mixes in the changeup early on before using too many two seam fastballs in the seventh.  The bullpen was forced to pitch out of jams in the seventh and eighth innings.  Detroit hitters took advantage of Korey Kluber's lack of command and extended the count on a few occasions.

Toronto 7 Detroit 2.  Detroit batters have trouble with Aaron Sanchez's fastball and not getting the big hit.  Detroit missed chances in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings - a twin killing ended the third and they failed to add to their total in the fifth.  Toronto batters wore down Justin Verlander fouling off numerous pitches and Detroit's bullpen add trouble keeping runners of base allowing four of Toronto's runs.  The Blue Jays also benefitted from nine walks, two of which forced in runs.

Detroit 6 Toronto 5, 11 innings.  Inability by Toronto to find the strike zone defensive miscues give Detroit the win.  Toronto committed three errors and issued nine free passes, the third error proved costly and came among three walks in the 11th.  The third walk forced in the winning run.  Starter Anibal Sanchez reverted back to his problem with the gopher ball as three of his mistakes found the seats accounting for Toronto's scoring.  A defensive play by Ian Kinsler helped keep Detroit in the game.

Detroit 9 Kansas City.  Matthew Boyd settles down after a rough first inning in which he allowed three runs on four singles and a hit batter.  He allowed only three more hits and pitched out of a sixth inning jam in six innings of work.  Detroit jumped on starter Travis Wood for a five run second inning when put pitches over the plate in lasting 4 1/3 innings.

Kansas city 4 Detroit 3.  Justin Wilson puts pitches over the plate in the ninth allowing Kansas City to score runs in the ninth.  Justin Wilson misplayed a flyball in the seventh into a triple that led to a run giving the Royals a 2-1 lead at that point.  A slider to Brandon Moss off the right field foul pole in the third tied the game at 1-1.

Kansas City 16 Detroit 4.  Pitches over the plate by Michael Fulmer gets him shelled for eight runs in 2 2/3 innings.  Shoddy defense in the first inning contributed to Fulmer's problems.   A throwing error at first started it off.  Mikie Mahtook misplayed a single into an error allowing a run to score and the batter to advance to second.  A poor throw from the outfield contributed.  Another throwing error and two catchable flyballs that dropped in and missed tag at the plate on a rundown added to the problems.  The bullpen didn't do much better.

Detroit 6 Minnesota 3.  Anibal Sanchez survives a three Minnesota fourth inning while at his best.  He was, however, able to end a threat in the fifth inducing a swinging on a pitch out of the strike zone.  Longballs by Victor Martinez and a run on a wild pitch provided the Detroit offense.

Minnesota 6 Detroit 5.  Kyle Gibson handcuffs Detroit with command of the fastball to set up his other pitches in 7 1/3 innings of work.  Gibson surrendered three runs in a five run Detroit eighth inning, but three were inherited runners by the bullpen.  The Twins turned a doubleplay in the first and benefited from an ill-advised attempt to by Jose Iglesias to stretch a single into a double to start the ninth.  Minnesota took advantage of an ineffective Jordan Zimmerman who allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings.
