Detroit overcomes a 3-0 deficit with one run in the fourth, on in the fifth, and five in the eighth to defeat Minnesota 7-3 and salvage a split in the four game series. Prince Fielder broke a 3-3 tie with a three run homer. Octavio Dotel got the win in relief of starter Rick Porcello.

Detroit hangs on for an 8-7 win over Kansas City despite closer Jose Valverde giving up three runs in the ninth. He would give up a leadoff walk,a double, another walk, and a two run single. He nearly gave up a go-ahead three run homer. A sacrifice fly brought in another run before striking out the final hitter. I'm still wondering if Valverde tends not to bear down when brought in to protect a sizable lead.

Reggie Jackson has been told by the Yankees to stay away from clubhouse after making the mistake of saying Alex Rodriguez's statistics were tainted by his admission of steroids. He spoke to Rodriguez about his comments and also said he didn't see Gary Carter, Kirby Puckett, and others as Hall of Famers.

How do react to the possibility that Washington may make the playoffs, something no Washington team has down since 1933 while the Cubs continue to languish? At least the Cubs were last in the postseason in 1945.

that's not quite true. they played detroit in the world series but lost in 45. the post season being the playoffs the cubs have been in a few times but usually get knocked out in the first round. (i'm speaking from memory)

Base running mistakes in the eigth and ninth innings lead to a an 8-6 loss in 13th innings. Brennan Boesch led off the eigth with a double and for some unexplained reason, tried to go to third on a hard grounder to short and was an easy out. . Boesch also tried to score the goahead run in the ninth as Detroit rallied for three runs, but was thrown out at home by 15-20 feet. Both teams would score in the 11th. After Detroit went ahead in the 13th, Baltimore got a gametying home run from J.J. Hardy and a walkoff shot from Taylor Teagarden.
