Mistakes by Detroit starter Matt Boyd give Texas a 6-2 win. Boyd hung changeups to Mike Napoli and Adrian Beltre and fastball over the plate to Robinson Chirinos to account for five of Texas's six runs. Boyd would only last 2 2/3 innings. Once again, Detroit shot itself in the foot missing chances in the 5th, 4th, 8th, and 9th innings. They also had a runner picked off first base after they had scored twice in the first inning and hit into two doubleplays.

Washington righthander Max Scherzer no-hits the New York Mets in a 2-0 win. Sherzer became the sixth pitcher to throw two no-hitters in the same season and struck out 17 batters, the most in a no-hitter and no hit no walk gem. A sixth inning throwing error by third baseman Yunel Escobar robbed Sherzer of a perfect game. He also became the first pitcher to throw two no-hitters without issuing a walk. The Mets became the fourth team to be no-hit twice in the same season with both times coming on their home field.

Daniel Norris combines with four relievers to shut down the White Sox on three hits in a 6-0 Detroit win to conclude the season. Chicago was only able to put two runners in scoring position. After a triple and a walk to Avisail Garcia, Norris got an inning ending double. Another runner was stranded in the sixth after a double.

The key hit for Detroit was a bases loaded triple in the seventh on a play in which a better relay throw nails Collins by about 10 feet. This concludes a disappointing season in which injuries and shaky pitching set Detroit back.

Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh square off tonight in the winner take all one game set at PNC Park at 8:08 P.M. Jake Arrieta gets the starts for the Cubs against Gerrit Cole for Pittsburgh. It is expected to be a low scoring game and a stolen base could be the difference, significant since neither team ran much during the second half of the season.

Chicago Cubs 6 St. Louis 3. Cubs take advantage of defensive lapses to score five runs in the second inning. Starlin Castro led off with a single to center and was forced at second by Austin Jackson. Jackson advanced to second on a throwing error by second baseman Kolten Wong. Jackson stole third and a walk followed. Kyle Kendrick's safety squeeze bunt was mishandled by pitcher Jaime Garcia who hesitated when he had a good chance of nailing Jackson at the plate and then threw the attempted bunt down the right field line for another error resulting runners at second and third. Another safety squeeze followed and then an infield single. Garcia threw a hanging slider over the plate to Jorge Soler who lined it over the center field fence for the final two runs of the inning.

Cubs starter Kyle Kendricks had trouble keeping pitches in the ballpark throwing a roomservice fastball to Matt Carpenter and left offspeed pitches over the plate to Wong and Randall Grichuk. Series tied 1-1.

Toronto attempts to stay alive against Texas tonight at 8:10 P.M. as the series shifts to Arlington, Texas. Marco Estrada starts for Toronto against Martin Perez for Texas. The Blue Jays may be able to survive one more night as Estrada allowed an American League best .202 batting average by opposing hitters. Perez, a lefthander, has allowed a .304 average by righthanded hitters and he faces a lineup that feasts on southpaws.
