Alex Auld

Hopefully he can use his NHL experience to help Carey out and be a solid back up for us. From what I know his records from previous seasons have not been the best but hopefully that will change here!

Good luck Alex!!

My new faveourite Hab,

GO AULD GO!

Hopefully he can push Price to the edge and improve our franchise on the whole.

What number do people think double A will get, I am thinking number #35 or #39, hopefully the latter.

Anyway, whatever happens, atleast we have a decent backup (who will end up being our starter...)

HA. it makes me laugh, to see stuff like this.

Are you you really so upset about Halak being traded that you hope Price fails? I can absolutely understand that you don't think Price can do it, but cheering against him? Unreal.

At least Auld knows his place. He'll do what's asked of him.

I think the trade is showing which people actually liked Halak or who just hated Price.

It seems to me that for some people, those two statements are interchangeable. And on that note, it's easy to see who is actually a Habs fan, and who was just a Halak fan.

If he can mentor Price in the net, he can mentor Gill too... since Gill is unproven in the net.

I understand fans who mourn Halak's departure, but you can do that without actively wishing for Price to fail, which is a position I find difficult to understand. Do I mourn Saku Koivu's departure? Yes. But even though I'm tough on Gomez because of his cap hit, I'm not sitting around praying he'll fail. Nothing would please me more than to see Gomez post 70+ points while playing solid two-way hockey.

You may not like the Halak trade, but try not to let it stop you from cheering for our team, and for Carey in particular.

make no mistake i will cheer for my habs but please do not expect me to cheer for the anointed one...I hope he plays well don/t get me wrong. besides so far AA is the number#1 or perhaps #2 behind Desjardins or Sanford (they are signed after all)

Well said. I will miss Halak alot and while I don't hate Price but I feel alot of resentment towards him. I'm sure alot of Halak fans feel the same way. When Roy was traded I rooted for Thibault and I'll root for Price the same way because I love this team regardless of who is in nets.

On behalf of many Halak fans here, I can honestly say that even though we've criticized Price for his obvious short coming , that doesn't mean we hate him. I'm getting irritated with this attitude that, just because one likes Halak, they have to hate Price. No. We just don't look at Price throught rose-colored glasses like some (not all) do.

As for the people whining about Price being the starter now: It's time to get over the trade, dudes. Halak is gone and in order for this team to get somewhere, Price will have to be good. It's one thing to be unsure of what he's going to be like and it's another to hope he fails. So friggin' cheer for him because he's a part of this team and if you're a Habs fan you cheer for the team.

look a team is greater than the sum of its parts..if i choose to cheer for the team and not necessarily for some of the individuals that should be okay. there are many who are not enamoured with some individuals on defense or the top 6 but they are okay as well are they not

I have always liked Auld, this has nothing to do with preference of Halak/Price, and I know that AA has no chance really of the starting job and I want the team to do well, its only natural I would prefer Auld to be starter but hes blatently a perrenial backup goalie.

That's all I ask. I'm not saying become a member of the Price fan club or get his face tattooed on your behind. ;) I'm just asking that we all cheer the team and hope for the goalie to perform well, regardless of whether that's Price or Auld, because the team has a better chance of succeeding if the goalie plays well.

For example, I am not a Hal Gill fan by any stretch. Don't like the guy, frankly. But last season, I wasn't hoping he'd fail just so I could have a public excuse to rag on him. In fact, I was overjoyed to see him step up in the playoffs and play the role of shutdown defenseman / PK specialist, particularly in the Pittsburgh series.

That's all I ask when it comes to judging our goalie(s).

Hey, I know what it's like, I'm not exactly a Khabibulin fan and I doubt his ability to play well but if he actually does play for the Oilers this season, I'm going to hope the guy plays well. I'm not saying anyone has to necessarily like the guy (though I do think it's unfair to put the blame on him for the Halak trade) and, really, it's not like it'll make a difference in the way he plays (as long as people aren't booing the crap out of him at games), but it's just about having class and overall being positive.

I don't hate Price but I feel alot of resentment towards him.

This is what I don't get though...What did Price do to bring this resentment? Did he hold a gun to managements head and say "pick me or i will kill you" did he say "trade Halak or I will end this franchise"...I will never, for the life of me, understand anyone who says they resent Price...Price didn't trade Huet to be #1, he didn't trade Halak to become #1, he didn't sign Alex Auld so that he would be #1, he never told management "make me your #1"...Price, especially this past season, has shown that he just goes with what he is told...he was told he wasn't starting, so he didn't start and at one point he was told ok today youll start (for the first time in 3 weeks against the caps) and he started...then he was benched and he didnt start...so why do you feel resentment towards Price? I think it is misplaced resentment, he didn't trade Halak and sign Auld so that he would be #1 again...It wasn't Price who made those moves...It was the Montreal Canadiens organization from ownership to the gm to the coach, somewhere along those lines they must have all talked and come to a conclusion to trade Halak and sign a guy like Auld...If the Molsons didn't like it, PG would have been gone for doing it

Very good point RSD... This is a management mistake, not to be blamed on Carey (or any other young player in his position). Carey isn't unlike any other young player eager to prove himself. If it were up to him, he'd play all 84 games. The coaching staff is there to help and guide young players. It's the coaching staffs job to guide these young players and to make the tough calls they won't make, like taking some time off. Young players (specially goalies) are eager to get their careers going, often they need to be told to take time off, either due to injury, fatigue, etc... Like I said before, if it were up to Carey, he'd play every game of the season. The coaching staff is there to monitor these eager young players, to monitor their stress level, their fatigue, to know when to play them and when not.

Imo, I don't think the coaching staff did a very good job monitoring Carey. 2 years ago, when it was obvious to everyone that Carey was not Carey (Flyers series) and showed signs of fatigue, instead of pulling him (series was over by that time) and giving him an early vacation-he'd played a lot of hockey up to that point, WJR's, full season with his minor league team, then leading the bulldog's to a calder-they played him when he was obviously no into it.

A vet goalie like Miller knows his limits, he knows when he needs time off and will let his coach know. A 20 or even 22 year old feels invincible and ignores the warning signs. This is when the coaching staff needs to step in and make the tough calls, despite what the player may say or believe.

My gawd, if I could tell from my living room that Carey didn't look right, I wonder what it looked like in the dressing room and during practice.

We can't blame Carey for management blunders. A 20 year old kid could have the flu and would still want to get out on the ice.

Auld is a career back up, there's no confusion there. But he does have experience, he's backed up some good tenders during his career. He'll know all the warning signs, I just hope management is actually open to his suggestions concerning Carey. Having an experienced tender in Carey's corner, I feel, will help Carey. I feel he could've learned more from a former #1 at the end of his career, but Alex has been around the league, he may not have Carey's skills, he has something Carey doesn't have yet... experience.

Alex Auld wasn't my first choice, but he'll be a real help to Carey. Let's face it, Halak and Carey were both in the same boat... 2 young goalie's both at the beginning of their respective careers. They had each other to lean on, but they couldn't really give each other tips when it came to the 29 other NHL teams.

I'm really curious to see how Carey fairs this season, he does have a lot on his plate. Alex Auld has seen the pressure's over his career, he'll be able to give Carey pointers. People underestimate the impact a vet goalie can have on a young tenders career. He may not have been a starter, but he's played behind many a starter and has seen the pressure first hand.

You make some great points Price is more often than not the scapegoat for decsions made by management. The bottom line is Price doesn't deserve to be the #1 on this team, he was annoited the number 1 by management after the spectacular job by Halak. That is why there's resentment. Price isn't replacing a bad goalie after earning the job he's replacing the goalie that got the team into the playoffs and then into the ECF. Is it Price's fault...no but he's benefitting from management's decision and didn't earn anything he's gotten so far.

I feel the same way as you concerning management... But, I'm not going to blame Carey for this, it was managements choice not Carey's, if we're going to resent anyone, I feel it should be Habs management.

Seriously, if we were in Carey's skates, we'd take it... Carey would be stupid to turn it down. If management feels Carey's ready for the position, then it's a management decision, not Carey's.
