Alex Auld

That's all I ask. I'm not saying become a member of the Price fan club or get his face tattooed on your behind. ;) I'm just asking that we all cheer the team and hope for the goalie to perform well, regardless of whether that's Price or Auld, because the team has a better chance of succeeding if the goalie plays well.

For example, I am not a Hal Gill fan by any stretch. Don't like the guy, frankly. But last season, I wasn't hoping he'd fail just so I could have a public excuse to rag on him. In fact, I was overjoyed to see him step up in the playoffs and play the role of shutdown defenseman / PK specialist, particularly in the Pittsburgh series.

That's all I ask when it comes to judging our goalie(s).

So wait, you are not a Hal Gill fan?:P

I remember Auld playing backup in Vancouver, can't remember what the #1 goalie's name but Auld actually was the better goalie. Naslund played great that season and Bertuzzi was suspended I believe. Anyways Alex Auld in my opinion stole a few games for the Canucks then he was traded to Florida. The 2005/06 season he played 67 games and won 33 and he was the backup for Dan Cloutier who should never have been a #1 in my recollection.

I just noticed that AA has stolen the starting job from both Gerber and Aebischer(sp?) in his career and both are Swiss goalies who've played at the Olympics(at the same time, too). Odd coincidence :S

I sure hope you arent going where I think you are with this..

Can someone explain to me why Carey would deserve 2.2 mil per year? Wasn't his salary $850,000 last year? I'm not all that clear on the money side of things. I love the guy, but, i don't think he's earned much more than what the Habs are required to offer him. Not yet. I do however want to give him a little extra time to mature and improve himself though. He was drafted 5th overall for a reason, so i'm by no means going to give up on the guy. Hopefully, the kid can end up with a career like Bunny larocque (drafted 6th overall 1972) and NOT like Ray Martynuik (drafted 5th overall 1970).

His base salary was 850,000, but with bonuses, he earned 2.2 million. Thus, he arrogantly believe that he deserves a raise on the 2.2 million, as opposed to the 850,000. He has the team by the balls - they traded away a playoff hero to make him the starter. He and his agent know that Montreal's options are to either sign him or to go into the season with Auld as the starter. Just a long list in the ways that Montreal has screwed up the goalie situation for the last 4 years.

The way I see it is that Price' salary was 850,000$ on an entry level contract, which is all they can offer him when they do. Now he's going into his first Free Agent contract, so other things can play into how much he ends up being worth, like his draft position, and his previous seasons. Despite all the heat he takes, he still does have pretty respectable stats, especially when you figure he's only 22

Well, the team didn't play that great in front of him by times, thats for sure. Anyway, hopefully the relationship between Auld and Price is a bit more like a mentor as apposed to a compitition for a # 1 starter position.

LOL at how wrong you are. First of all, yes, you are right that his base salary was 850K. But he did not earn 2.2 mil last year, in fact, of the 7 bonus clauses in his contract, he only achieved 2 of them. His salary was probably in the 1.2-1.4 million range.

Next, who are you to decide he's being arrogant? For all we know, management has offered him a 6 year, 20 million deal. It has been stated that he is looking for a shorter contract, presumably so he can play better in the near future, and earn himself something a little more lucrative.

This is the Auld thread, not the Price thread. Move along, folks. ;)

Weep, can't you see that the Price thread is becoming so big and powerful that it's swallowing up less power threads for nourishment? There is no Auld thread. Soon the whole forum will be 1 big Price thread.

The only hope is for batman to sign up on this forum and backseat moderate while providing some vigilante justice.

Everything he earns now should be based on merit.
