The NFL draft begins Thursday. Detroit will need to close a wide open door to the end zone with a pass rush and there are several options available. That's considering the fact one has defected via free agency and another was released. They will also need to fix a gaping hole in its offensive front line because two have retired. Other areas to address are wide receiver and cornerback.

The NFL draft has ended Detroit filled two of its holes on the defensive line with Ezekiel Ansah out of BYU and Devin Taylor from South Carolina. One lineman was released and the other was allowed to sign with Seattle. The Lions took cornerback Darius Clay from Mississippi State in the second round and used its third round selection to take guard Larry Warford from Kentucky. They traded down in the fifth round and took Appalachian State punter Sam Martin who they liked on kickoffs and field goals. The sixth round picks were Virginia Tech wide receiver Corey Fuller and Notre Dame running back Theo Riddick. Their final selections were Alabama tight end Michael Williams and Florida A + M linebacker Brandon Hepburn.

Their one failure was addressing the offensive front line, largely because the top prospects were already taken and because left tackle Jeff Backus retired and right tackle Gosder Cherillis left through free agency.

Cleveland Browns seventh round draft selectin Armonty Bryant was arrested Friday in Ada, Oklahoma for DUI. Bryant registered .098 and the legal limit in Oklahoma is .08. Bryant posted $500 bond and was released from the Pontotoc County Justice Center. All this comes after Bryant assured the Browns he would be reliable since the front knew there were character issues. And his chances won't be helped by the situation the team has become deep with end pass rushers.

An addition to the above post: The Browns drafted Bryant despite the fact he was arrested for selling marijuana in a school zone. He pleaded no contest to that charge. He was also suspended three games last season by East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma after the arrest and was twice accused of selling to an undercover officer, both times in a campus parking lot.
