Ok,,,,your guess is as good as mine,,,,so I will guess Dec. 1st. because NBC has a huge contract with the NHL......and they will exert some pressure on the NHL to end it.

FYI: NBC Sports is owned by NBC Universal which is owned by Comcast Spectacor whose chairman just happens to be Ed Snider, owner of the Flyers. I don't think Snider gives a damn about the season. He doesn't need the money.

Bettman has done this twice before, and both times it was a lockout. You know why? He doesn't care about the fans, he cares more to get what he wants, I see another full season lockout.

i know, it really sucks. He does care about fans since fans equal money. Hockey fans are so loyal, that he knows the fans will come back once the season does start.

I have a lot of friends that were so ticked off after the last lockout, that they swore they'd never watch another NHL game ever again. They held firm for a while, but eventually they all went back to watching hockey.

Thing that sucks, bettman knows this.

He obviously wants the league to flourish. It means more money for the league and for him. But I can't see how this standoff is helping the NHL and those struggling teams in weak markets. Isn't that what this lockout is about, hold out for more money so these teams in weak markets can continue?

Seems like a vicious circle to me.

Well i consider myself one of those hardcore fans, but i'm determined this time to boycott the game in some fashion, when they return. As for when i think they'll be back,,,,,,,,,,flip a coin on either of those choices. Baseball lost me as a fan when they shut down, and although the NHL won't lose me, i can certainly see them take a hit this time around. Hope they learn from it.

The first lockout was forgivable, was the first time anything like this had happened at the NHL level (of this magnitude).

It's only been 6 years, not sure the fans would like it too much. Specially the new fans they gained post-lockout. They may figure, "love the sport, but with all these lockouts every 6-8 years, what's the point...". Obviously Canadian hockey fans don't think this way and will always go back to watching the game.

But these lockouts-even with the extra revenue-will not help gain fans in weak markets-imho.

I'm pretty sure bettman has taken this into consideration. He's standing firm now, but I have a gut feeling we'll see hockey before the new year.

Easier to boycott other products that those owners peddle than to boycott hockey :)

I voted Jan 1. I could see this going on for a few months and then both sides just scrambling to get something going.

Personally? I'd rather see this go on for at least a year, maybe 2. Maybe we will see some heads roll and have a major overhaul from top to bottom. *sigh* a man can dream can't he?

the owners are probably thinking they could make money training and playing chipanzees but since a chimp won't concuss as quickly or as often as a human i'd say this thing goes on indefinately. a year..or more

I don't see it going into the new year. Teams like the leafs, rags and habs could hold out forever. But teams already on the verge of bankruptcy, I don't see them being able to hold out. More money or not from shared revenues, they'll never be able to make up for a lost season.

I'll be very surprised to see it go a full season. Then again, I didn't think it would've happened the last time either.

exactly. Last time I am willing to bet a lot of us were saying a lockout wouldn't last much more then a couple months.

Ya the Habs and Leafs could hold out for a very long time. As for the other teams like i said, I want heads to roll for this one.

Starting with Bettman, who's really the guy (along with his buddies in Boston and Philly) who push the hardball tactics and the anti-fan attitude.

Don't know when it'll end, and frankly, don't even care. It's pretty liberating not having to watch this trainwreck of a team find ways to dash our expectations yet again. So much more to life than watching hockey.

Maybe that should go on the positive thread. What kind of public relations do you think it would take to get a deal done? I can probably make a guess.

Honestly find myself caring a lot less at this point. I've been getting into the NFL, and I live in Halifax now (for University), so I'm a short bus ride away from a $10.50 lower-bowl ticket to see the Mooseheads play. Hard to miss watching us lose all year, when I can watch Mackinnon, Frk, and Drouin play 15 games for less than it would cost me to watch the Habs play one.

When the NHL comes back, I'll watch. But I'll be playing 2-3 times a week, and hopefully getting out to see the Mooseheads a couple times a month. I won't be missing it.

I think they will have their agreement in place - and I think Dec. 1 will be the latest.

What would be really bad is if they had to cancel the Winter Classic, slated this year for the University of Michigan Stadium, with hockey-related events such as the Alumni game and the Great Lakes Invitational college tournament taking place at the same time.

Also, forgot to mention that I think we'll be back just in time for the Winter Classic, I think there'll probably be some outside pressure from NBC to get a deal done.
