As long as I don't see "the move", I'm happy. :P

Seriously, though, welcome back, Michael. Didn't think this would ever happen, but that's hockey for ya. We definitely need a triggerman at forward right now so it's a solid addition. Power forwards are great, but you also need people who can snipe, which we haven't had since Cammalleri left.

I was JUST saying that in the other thread to you! Size is great but we have guys (big and small) who will go to the net and we're very short on guys who can beat goalies clean on the PP. We needed these type goals for games like last night.

LOL, I know, I saw your initial comment just now! Should also be useful in the shootout FWIW. Nice to have a guy like Ryder who can really just wire a laser...

Not surprised @ Cole being traded - 2 more years with his cap hit and at his age , the Habs needed to free up cap space and I think last year was probably the best yr the Habs were goign to get out of Cole

I am surprised at picking up Ryder

Not sure what to make of it but it's only for 29 more games

Now see what we can about Kaberle

and perhaps Michael is a more useful option at the sniper position. Neither player have scored 40 goals in a season and their about the same age, so the x factors comparing these two players is Ryders advantage in height and overall regular season and playoff performance experience, with the stanley cup ring being the icing. Cammalleri is quicker with better shot accuracy but also more inconsistent and frusterating defensively.

Also Ryder is a UFA after this year and at a lower cap hit. That's significantly in his favor IMO. Cammalleri is the more skilled player, definitely, with higher top end but with a higher cap hit. I'd take either one right now; just getting a guy who can snipe from anywhere in the offensive zone is great.

Not sure what to make of this. Certainly will be easier on the bank book at year end. I kept waiting for Cole to turn the corner and get back to where he was last season. I seen glimpses last night when he ran over Methot..Not sure Coles head is in the game anymore though.

Ryder is Ryder, he knows where the net is for sure. Lower cap and we can wave goodbye at year end...

Ryder is Good, Cammalleri was better

I don't know that I'd argue in favor of Ryder based on his Cup win in Boston. He was a really a role player on that team, not a key member. The truth is that Ryder's not going to make a huge difference in team performance for the Canadiens. He'll help on the PP, but he's not a guy you can throw out there for 20-22 minutes a night. I agree that he fills a need for a sniper that has been present since Cammalleri left, although I think he's a less complete player than Cammy as well. That said, we still don't know how losing Cole impacts the rest of the team, namely whether guys will be getting less chances and space near the net because of the confusion Cole created when he drove the crease. Without a doubt, Cole started off slow, but he usually picks up his game as the season goes on and at the end of the day, we're still giving up a top scorer for a guy who can score but plays a very different style of game. To me, it's unclear whether that will benefit or hurt us on the ice. I do like the trade from a business point of view IF you use those cash savings well. If we end up re-signing Ryder to a 4M deal, then we've saved little to nothing. MB has made a nice trade, and now he needs to capitalize on the cap space created.

Not sure where I argued differently. Not saying both players are equal in talent, just that they both occupy the same role and it's good to have a sniper again.

I was agreeing with you, There both Good players, In My opinion I thought Cammy was better because or his 2 seasons & 2 playoffs Production Compared to Ryder

I will have to agree with you, Cole normally does start off slow & pick up, he was a big part of us reaching 1st in the east with the way he plays the game, Hopefully Ryder doesnt affect up drastically and cause us to fall out of a spot ;)

There is an old Rule we use in the Trades If it Works Dont Screw With it, If it aint broken don't fix it, this being said I hope we didn't effect this rule, Normally when you do it creates more problems

Really sorry to see Cole go,he was better than a lot of you gave him credit for, butI can't see Ryder getting many goals,I think we will miss Cole going to the net more than we will get from Ryder, not too happy with this one. It's funny I remember a lot of people happy to see Ryder go.

OMG! You two are ADORABLE!

I think he'll be a nice addition actually. Cole is probably a better overall player, but I think Ryder might provide more of what we need at the moment. And that's just the short-term analysis, it's a very clear win long term(pick + cap relief).

I'm not so sure about that (see the Ryder trade thread for stats). Add another year (approx. what the difference in NHL games played would be) and you may change your view).

Welcome back Michael... good luck!

Welcome back Michael. Good move in short term from both on ice and business perspective.

Always liked Ryder too. He should have fun playing with Pleky or any of other centres.

Not that sorry to see Cole leave. I didn't like his attitude throughout and after the lockout

and unlike some of the fans I don't feel excusing his chronic pattern of being a slow starter

to every season is valid.

This is especially a concern in this shortened season when we need everyone delivering NOW.

It is also hypocritical I think to give Cole a free pass while critcising other players for slow starts

or periodic slumps when the guy never got going at all this year.
