Lars Eller

I would love to see Eller get some more offensive linemates this season. I think he and Hudon could mesh well if Hudon makes the team. Both play a great defensive game and have good speed and skill. But a guy like Kassian or Weise on the right side and I think we could have a great 3rd line.

I suspect that unless DD is traded, Eller will remain on the 3rd line and Kassian will be used to insulate DD (with Patches) which I suppose is ok but still no ideal based on this roster. Assuming our top 2 lines will be once again centred by DD and Plekanec, like you, id be quite interested to see a third line of say Hudon - Eller - Kassian.

However, I firmly believe that now is the time to move forward with Galchenyuk at #1 and Eller at #2 centre positions. The only way this happens, imho is if MB trades DD though (which is a shame because i think DD could have a place on this team as bottom 6 scoring depth) but i cant see MT doing that unfortunately.

I agree with everything. With Pleks in the last year of his contract and our need for a #1C, we need to see what a 1-2 punch or Galchenyuk-Eller can do. However with MT I imagine we will see DD-Plekanec-Eller down the middle again.

Amen to the last 2 posts.

I concur.

Either Eller or Galchenyuk has to play significant minutes centering one of the top 2 lines this season. Preferably both.

We've had Eller for 5 seasons and Galchenyuk for 3. They've each had very limited time in one of those positions, and have both produced favorable results in those situations. It's past time we find out what they are truly capable of.

Who would have thought that he would look great with better linemates? It would be great to see him hit 20 goals and 50 points this year.

I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch just yet. You know who could still change things up.

Anyone think the HABS will trade him .

It appears he's MT's scapegoat again this yr

I understand he was on for a GA in Calgary and got benched.

I think MT should look at himself

The team hasn't been playing very good from St Louis Blues game and on .

Their play mirrors last yr which relied on CP to win games .

And as we saw in Edmonton and Vancouver when CP isn't on his game this is a below average club.

I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch just yet. You know who could still change things up.

Yea, he already has

He's been demoted to active scapegoat now that Semin is on hotdog stand duty. He played 9:09 against the Flames. Once he goes UFA, this guy is gone and we'll quickly see what we gave up. He may not have great vision, but he is so good along the boards and in the corners and his defensive game is ridiculously under rated. I'll be sad to see him go.

someone give me a reasonable account of what eller has done wrong to get treated like a plug

its a disgrace what MT does to this guy.

Well no one can blame DD anymore for Eller's lack of ice time. No matter where they put DD he has managed to put up points and play his game. Maybe Eller should adopt some of that attitude and his game will take care of itself.

Well, let's look at the two this season and make an assessment.

David Desharnais, 2015-16 to date:

64.2% Offensive Zone starts

1.6 Minutes average power play TOI

.932 5-on-5 On-ice Save percentage

10.67% On-ice shooting percentage (1.67 points above league average)

48.3% 5-on-5 Fenwick For %

-2.2% Team relative 5-on-5 Fenwick For %

106.7 PDO

Lars Eller, 2015-16 to date:

50% Offensive Zone starts

0.7 Minutes average power play TOI

.919 5-on-5 On-Ice Save percentage

7.79% On-ice shooting percentage (1.21 points below league average)

50.7% 5-on-5 Fenwick For %

0.5% Team relative 5-on-5 Fenwick For %

100.2 PDO

Where they put Desharnais is, empirically and indisputably, a better position to succeed than Lars Eller. Desharnais has played worse and been the beneficiary of very good luck, and the other players on the ice with him do better when not playing with him.

If "attitude" has any part of it, I would surmise that Lars Eller's "attitude" is superior to Desharnais', given the fact that he plays better while being set up to fail. I'm not sure how Eller can adopt whatever is necessary for the coaching staff to recognize his evidently superior play.

What I was pointing out is you should stop blaming DD for Eller. Eller is reposible for Eller. He has trouble giving and taking passes. No doubt he is very good defensively. He can even put the puck in the net if givin the opportunities. As far as all those stats go, I beieve they have a saying for that. ;) I have been preaching for three years that DD should be centering the third line. He is and doing a great job. Weise and a player no one else wanted seem to be doing pretty good playing with him. Praise Eller all you want and I hope he starts to shine, just give DD a break from the if he was not here Eller would be so much better.

I like Eller. It sucks for him that he seems to be in and out of MT's dog house. Coaches will always have favourites and fall guys. They get comfortable with certain players in certain situations and are somewhat blind to bonehead plays by one player and all over another with similar mistakes. We've witnessed it as fans, but that's not exclusive to MT as a coach. We hear the same complaint from other teams fans about their coach's use of players.

The addition of the stats guy by the Habs is a good tool for a GM to sit down with a Coach and point those things out, and hopefully make suggestions or recommendations . I'd like to think there's some communication going back and forth. We saw the ice issues with PK pretty much resolved of late, so it's not out of the question the same won't happen with other parts of our roster.

It's not really about DD though. I think everybody here likes him. It really is just about MT and how he he gives DD preferential treatment while he victimizes Eller. Take the game in Edmonton, for example. We were in a close game with a minute left in the third period. DD coughs up the puck rather easily behind the net and it leads to the GWG. Had Eller done this, we would have seen him demoted or and singled out for his mistake. DD faces no such repercussions. These things happen and I'm not going to hate on Desharnais for it or even argue that he should be benched for making mistakes. It is just very irritating when you see the difference in how the two players are treated even when the stats show a pretty clear picture of who is playing better hockey.
