BTW...I watched a lot of the Memorial cup this past week and 2 players caught my eye:

Aaron Luchuk

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=164649

AND

Scott Eansor

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=170199

2 guys who are known for their character in the locker room and their work ethic on the ice.  They're speedy and fit the bill of the type of player MB and CJ are going to be looking for.  They also both are sans pro contract currently.

Big Ted-has gone on record as saying: "Trading Galchenyuk only makes sense if you're getting equally skilled and young players in return."  All paraphrasing aside, how about this deal involving Galchenyuk and Beaulieu:

To CBJ: Alex Galchenyuk, Nathan Beaulieu

To MTL: Alex Wennberg, Ryan Murray

That is the most equal trade you could make involving Alex Galchenyuk.  You get a top line centre, you get a young D man back.  I doubt Columbus does it, or Bargain Bin for that matter.  But that gives you a #1 guy in between Patches and Radulov, if he resigns.

Since we seem to either select draft picks poorly or ruin them in the minors maybe we should just trade every single draft pick we have.

It sure does seem that way, doesn't it?  For a guy that's allegedly building through that draft, we sure do seem to let our fair share of young talent get away from us.

Id overpay for oshie before i overpay for radulov

Why? They're the same age and similarly effective players, Oshie scored 33G this year next to Backstrom but that's definitely not happening with our star center Philip Danault

I'd be fine with Oshie if Radulov signs elsewhere but I don't see why we'd prefer Oshie to Radulov. We already know Radulov and Pacioretty play well together and IMO Radulov's skillset fits better with the Habs existing lineup that lacks playmaking centers.

If it's an impact defenseman they're after, then why not send them Petry or Weber?  Get an early start on that rebuild that's coming 2 years down the road too late.

"cause Petry and Weber aren't impact either :4224:

Petry is objectively a monster at 5-on-5. Weber not so much, naturally, but he's a league elite power play specialist. It's arguable whether or not a special teams specialist can be called an impact player, though.

Simon Despres released by the Ducks today... big guy, left-handed shot. Didn't play much last year, but he could be a cheap add since he's still getting paid in part by Anaheim... worth a look on a 1-2 year deal at 1.5-2M a season?

Thisbis what I'm talking about!

Now would be a good time to offer sheet Draisaitl

I wish. Draisaitl would be an awesome addition to Montreal... Or it would be nice to force Edmonton's hand regarding his contract.

MB grabbed Drouin. Wonder if he has any interest in reuniting him with MacKinnon. Galchenyuk for MacKinnon straight up?

I would certainly make the trade of MacKinnon for Galchenyuk... I wonder if Colorado would? Would Colorado consider something like Galchenyuk + prospect (McCarron, Scherbak, Hudon?) for MacKinnon?

"Expect the unexpected" I keep thinking if he is going to do something like this if things don't go his way the next few days

I wonder why no GMs bother to use the offer sheet? Is it because other GMs would refuse to deal with them if they use this tactic? I mean, it's there in the rules to be used... I have no idea why GMs never bother.

The more I hear about MB trying to flip AG for a D man, the more it's becoming likely he'll need to address the need for a top 6 center via free agency... options include:

- Joe Thornton

- Patrick Marleau (who is probably more coveted by MB given his French name)

- Martin Hanzal (whom I not sure is any better than what we already have)

Slim pickings.

The other option would be to see if LV has anyone that becomes available to them when the lists are released tomorrow and then make an offer to Vegas to select one of those guys for us and deal them for picks.

In terms of trade possibilities there has been some speculation that Artem Anisimov coud be available as Chicago wants/needs to cutback on salary/caphit. Could he be an option at approx. 4.5 million for the next 3 years?

If we got Anisimov, kept Chucky and hoped that he or Drouin could play center, and signed Radulov... I would allow myself to be optimistic, there would at least be hope. I think that Anisimov is likely being moved, so habs have a chance there, although they'd need to lose Plekanec's contract if they want to keep the players I mentioned and add Anisimov.

Anisimov is a very solid second line C and his cap hit is actually quite reasonable

By your wish list above I think there are too many moving/not moving parts needed to make it happen. Question is... what do the Habs have to offer the Blackhawks in trade now?

I'll preface this by saying I dont want to trade Galchenyuk - however - IF MB is going to do it, then we'd better get a great return.

Ive long suggested that a Tavares deal with AG as the primary piece from our end, I could live with.   If MB is thinking of swapping AG for a dman, why not go big & try to get  Oliver Ekman-Larsson.  I think he would be the perfect complement to our #1 LD hole and would really make our defense a ton better overnight.

Because we would be giving up age (again) I would push hard for a top prospect, maybe Christian Dvorak (they might do it, having already got Strome at their #1C spot).  The Subban deal would have at least been more palatable had MB squeezed a top young prospect out of Nashville too.

Chuck is young enough to fit in well with the Coyote's core, and would be great at either LW or #2 centre. I think they'd have some interest & I understand they are looking for a shake up.

Would absolutely be ok with AG for OEL if we had to trade Galchenyuk... but rumor is he will be named captain in Phoenix soon, so doubt they are looking to part with him.

So. Some of the more obvious things need to get done. We've got about $23 million in cap space to work with.

Resign Andrei Markov. 1 year, between $4,500,000 - $6,000,000.

Resign Alexander Radulov. 6 years, approximately $6,000,000.

Resign Alex Galchenyuk. Can we go short-term and he would still remain a RFA when the 1 - 2 years are up?
