Tonight:

Washington over Toronto to go up 2 games to 1;

Ottawa-Boston goes to 4OT with half a dozen players being taken off on stretchers; and

Chicago finally scores a goal....but will it be enough?

I can live with that. :)

2-0 Caps, 1-0 Sens.

hehe.

My guess:  Washington vs TO  I think is going to be a blowout... im just not sure which way. The leafs have nothing to lose so I think if they startle washington with 1 or 2 quick goals it could get ugly for the caps.  However, I do believe its more likely the Caps will come out strong & hammer the leafs.  I dont think its going to be a close affair.

I can get behind any scenario where Ottawa and Boston beat each other up.

I actually think Chicago is going to take a deep breath and shake off the last two games.  I think they will win tonight.

Both games are tied 3-3 after two periods now.

Just what the league wanted.  Tight games.  Both games tied 3-3 going into the 3rd.  Boston's tying goal came on the Power Play.  But the Caps are the only ones with power plays in the other game, with 3, and Toronto still stormed back to tie it.  I think Bettman still hates the Canadian teams.

If I had to guess what would be "preferred" by the league in terms of generating profits/interest and growing the game in places where there is room for expansion, I'd venture this is who they'd want to see move on (all in OT in 7 games of course!)... I've bolded the teams I think they have the most interest if seeing win:

Tor over Was (because while they would die for an Ovi/Crosby match-up, it probably helps more to see a Toronto resurgence; I don't think league would be too upset to see either team win, so long as it's against Pens in next round)

Pit over Clb (Crosby)

NYR over Mtl (biggest market and always generates interest in neutral fan bases to see NY advance)

Bos over Ott (league favorite team, buddies with Jacobs, and NY-Bos city rivalry is big)

Nas over Chi (hot Southern team that hasn't yet won a Cup)

Min and Stl (this one is a wash, no real interest in seeing either team have success I would guess)

Cal over Ana (bonuses to either team winning, but I think Battle of Alberta keeps a lot of Canada interested)

Edm over SJ (McDavid)

***

Pit over Tor (benefits to either of course... they won't complain about Crosby or Matthews and both would be big draws for neutral site fans)

NYR over Bos (again, tight one, but NYR have had a longer Cup drought)

Nas over Min/Stl (props to Southern team over midwest)

Edm over Cal (McDavid as a star)

***

Pit over NYR (send Crosby to the marquee match-up)

Edm over Nas (tight one, but how could the NHL not pull for Crosby vs. his heir-apparent)

So I'd read it like that... if Pit, NYR/Bos, Nas, and Edm are your final 4, then I'd wonder hard about whether the fix was in, because that's probably the ideal scenario for the league.
