As an American I would much rather have Bergevin for President but as a Hab's fan Trump would do to this team what he did to the USFL oh don't remember that league that's because Trump drove it into the ground like his casinos and now what he's doing to the US! We will straight up trade for Tredeau though! Not that would be the worst trade in Canada's history!

Well if you think Fox is actually news you need help and by any survey or pole conducted by any organization Trumps #'s aren't where most, actually far from it approve of him. He probably has a lower rating than those that approve of the Habs GM! Remember the only way he actually won was by the archaic electoral college system our country still has in place. He actually lost the election by close to 3,000,000 votes of the actually people of the nation. I know people who have lost their health care do to Trumps actions something as a Canadian luckily and hopefully you'll neve have to experience. Anyway a different discussion for a different platform.

I went away to the cabin this weekend. I was hoping to return to news that Pacioretty had been traded and the ordeal was over. All that happened appears to be a fake "Max to Pittsburgh" rumor. Darn. Anything new on the Patches front? I don't see anything new on the internet.

Go back to the cabin :6396:

pretty quiet right now i think.

David Pagnotta still saying we're talking with the Blackhawks about him but not sure what they would give us in return. I still dont see them as a fit - unless - they are trying to go all in for one more cup run.  I guess that makes some sense and the nice thing is it would mean that MB wouldnt be targeting a guy like Toews or Keith, either of whom would be a perfect "marc bergevin' type acquisition.

Hey if they are going all in, maybe they want Weber ;)

If, as it is rumored that Panarin wants out of Columbus, would they consider a swap for Pacioretty

Assuming Patches would re-sign there, I suspect they would but the question is: do we do that.  Panarin snubbed us once and its pretty clear he wants to play in a "big US market" (his words).  So its unlikely he would waive his MNTC to come to Montreal, but even if he did, we probably would only get one year out of him.

Now, you could argue that you trade him at the deadline but with Marc "I need a day in my head" Bergevin this sounds like a very risky move at best.

I think Montreal is a big NHL Market team. The Canadiens are known to have a worldwide fan-base... perhaps more than any other NHL team. That has to count for something in terms of potential endorsements for international star players I would think. I'm not aware of the Panarin snub you mention. That said, would it be a fair trade for both sides? Would it cost more or less to extend Panarin vs. Pacioretty.

I don't think it's about money so much as lifestyle/amenities. He played in Saint Petersburg and Chicago, two major world class cities with anything a 25 year old millionaire could ever want. Now he plays in Columbus which is apparently a nice city to live in but it's not exactly Saint Petersburg or Chicago. If that's the criteria I think the Habs would at least have a decent chance of selling him on Montreal. It's not New York or LA but Montreal has probably the best nightlife of any NHL city and its restaurant/culture/things to spend millions of dollars on scene stacks up to (or beats) pretty much every other NHL city besides New York and LA.

I know it's misleading because it ignores the metro area but Montreal proper is still the 8th largest city in North America, and the metro area population is 4M. Again, that's not New York or LA, but it's comparable to Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, and Miami for metro population so unless you're going to LA, New York, or Dallas then Montreal is a comparably sized city to the other big NHL markets.

The snub was that when NHl teams were courting him, we were, for a long time, considered the favourite & then chicago snagged him.   If MB felt snubbed, i highly doubt he'd be looking to acquire him.  MB has shown himself to be vindictive and spiteful.  Snub me once, im not interest.

yeah, look things may have changed but at the time one of the big things he was adamant about was playing for a big "US Market" - ive heard it mentioned recently again (which is why he's not resigning in Columbus) but who knows.   He chose to sign in Chicago - he was traded to columbus.  So maybe he'd be ok with a long term extension in Montreal but as mentioned above, i dont think MB has thick enough skin to go after him.

We maybe a big market team who has done nothing since 93...and we will continue to do nothing with our spineless owner in charge. ..how does bergevin have a job...he traded pk I love weber but pk was beloved by the city and they trade him!!why???...he doesnt resign radulov or markov but brings in alzner and leaves 7 or 8 or 9 million whatever the heck it was of untouched money...many fans r not renewing season tickets and thats great!!its a start empty seats will send a clear msg to the morons in charge

The rumor I heard about Panarin was that his girlfriend wants to be be in a city like New York or LA to advance her modeling career. He's denied that, but that's the rumor. We know players' wives' opinions played a large role in the decisions of other players, like Vanek for example. So it's possible. In which case Montreal, despite being a big hockey city, isn't in the mix for a long-term deal.

Too bad, if that's true... could have been a nice fit maybe

Luca Sbisa
Age: 28
Position: Defence
2017-18 cap hit: $4 million

Sbisa is one of the best youngish D-men on the open market. A Stanley Cup finalist, Sbisa logged an average of 19:31 in the 30 games he played and posted 14 points with a plus-8 rating.

There have been multiple reports that the Chicago Blackhawks, who recently cleared Marian Hossa‘s contract, have expressed some level of interest in Sbisa.

============================================

Should the Habs consider this guy? Possibly a top 2 guy to play with Weber on his return
