Laval Rocket

Seriously? We're hiring a guy who bit his opponent and also got a 10-game suspension (!) for kneeing and name him assistant coach of the farm team?

Let's take that 'Attitude is Everything' slogan to a whole new level.

Say WHAT?!

So weird. I don't get the connection and why Burrow would be on the Laval coaching staff...

Maybe it's so the Habs can sign him up and call him up if Pleky goes down.

Lindgren sent back after the game. I'm assuming Price is good to go as it certainly can't be because we're tight against the Cap.

I see Laval continues to stink in the AHL. One of the worst teams in the league going off of the standings.

Additionally, it appears that Scherbak has 0 points in 3 games played.

Just noticed this. They had him playing left wing - they might as well take his stick out of his hands.

Yeah, he shoots left but his somewhat rare skillset requires that play on RW, IMO.

Karl Alzner scored a goal in his first game. A 2-1 win and he was a plus 2. Go figure.

The game is slower down there.

Simon Despres has signed a tryout contract with the Rocket. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Has Laval been hit bad with injuries on D or is the current group of defenders just terrible? You'd think with Mete and Alzner getting sent down, the team would be okay on D...

Maybe a possible trade with Alzner going out... I wonder :7072:

I think the "desperate times" BigTed was referring to was on the part of Despres.  Remember, we gave him a PTO and then offered him a contract in Laval. He declined because he wanted to try to make an NHL roster.  Its a couple of months later and that hasnt happened, so he's accepted a PTO with the very team that offered him an contract back in Sept/Oct.

As far as Laval, Kulak was their best DMan but now they have Mete and Alzner  plus Fleury, Lamarche, Lernout, Sklenicka and Moravcik - plus a few others.

Its not a bad group for the AHL.

Desperation for everyone involved I think... rumor is that Sean Burke, who runs the Spengler Cup team and has ties to the Habs scouting staff, is interested in Despres being on that squad but asked the Habs to tune him into shape. Habs have promoted Kulak and may not be planning on having Mete or Alzner around in Laval for too long, and I think Fleury has been injured (not sure if he's back), so I think the Habs are planning insurance for a veteran D man they can recall in the minors and I think Despres ran out of options to play and needed a place to find his legs again.

McNiven and Lacouvee were sent to the ECHL can't remember what team but they were sent there on Monday. Alzner wasn't expected in Laval until Monday or Tuesday.

Yeah Bouchard said that preseason wasnt for any of the 'established' players. If they were there, fine but he wanted to use those games to evaluate the players on the bubble.
