NCAA national championship Alabama - Clemson tonight at 8:00 P.M. at Levi Stadium, Santa Clara, California.  Alabama and Clemson play for the national title for the fourth straight year.  Both teams will need to establish the run, stop the run, cover the other team's receivers.  Turnovers and special teams could be the deciding factor.

How Alabama wins.  On offense.  Establish the run and force Clemson to bring its linebackers close to the line of scrimmage.  Isolate its top receiver on Clemson's safety who has shown difficulty in pass coverage.  Attack the perimeter, throw downfield.  They will need success throwing on early downs and short yardage situations.  Use the running back of the  backfield in pass situations.

On defense.  Stop the run and force its quarterback to win the game by himself.  Limit blitzes and rush with four lineman keeping the linebackers in coverage.  Disguise coverage and get pressure on the quarterback and limit big plays.

How Clemson wins.  On offense.  Establish the run and attack the linebackers with seam routes and crossing patterns.  Use a combination of jet sweeps and inside runs to get the linebackers out of position.  Throw downfield when the secondary comes up to stop the short passes.  Ball possession to keep Alabama's offense on the sidelines.

On defense.  Stop the run and force either Tua Tagovaila or Jalen Hurts to win the game by himself - Tagovaila to win through the air or Hurts to run the ball.  Keep linebackers in pass coverage in obvious pass situations.  Zone coverage against Alabama's receivers.

Clemson 44 Alabama 16.  Domination of the line of scrimmage by Clemson on both sides of the ball.  Blown coverage by Alabama resulting in big plays, interceptions that resulted in two touchdowns, mistakes in the kicking game - a missed extra point and a failed fake field goal attempt - and stops by Clemson on fourth down.  Alabama's defense was essentially shredded by perimeter plays and accurate passing by Trevor Lawrence.
