Detroit 9 Chicago White Sox 7, 10 innings.  Bullpen meltdown and defensive lapses by the White Sox allow Detroit to overcome a four run deficit.  Joakim Soria threw a 3-2 fastball up in the strike zone in the ninth to Nico Goodrum to cut the lead to 7-6.  Chicago's left fielder turned what should have been a one single into a game tying RBI double.  In the 10th, a slow roller that was too slow to turn a double play on was turned and should have been force at second was turned into a first and second situation when the second baseman took his foot off the bag.  The go ahead run scored since there was already no play at the plate.

Middle relief by Detroit's staff bailed out Jordan Zimmerman who put too many pitches over the plate in allowing 6 runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.  Shane Greene, however, allowed a pair of two out baserunners before getting the final out.

Detroit 1 Chicago White Sox 0.  Mike Fiers combined with four relievers to limit the White Sox to three hits.  Fiers pitched six innings mixing curveballs and changeups to set up the fastball.  Aggressive baserunning in the first inning led to the only run of the game.  A stolen base and a passed ball was followed by a sacrifice fly.  Detroit also turned three twin killings and caught a White Sox runner stealing and Fiers was also able to pitch out of a first inning jam.  Neither team got a hit after the third inning.
