I don't like it. I know its just a 5th but Gallagher was a 5th! What's he going to do for us really?

Cost us a 4th rounder for a 5th. UFA this summer. Not sure it helps us in the speed department but i think it gives us some added muscle

We're giving up Calgary's 4th rounder for the Yotes 5th. Not a lot of drop off there. The cap hit is minimal and he's gone this summer. A little depth for the 4th  that was clearly outplayed last game. I don't have a problem with a move like this.

Yeah, Arizona's fifth and Calgary's fourth will probably be pretty close to one another. Don't know anything about Nate Thompson.

Apparently we have until 5:00p.m. today to make another roster move to fit him in. Stay tuned.

Not sure what L.A.'s reasoning was for making this deal. As you said,,, the draft exchange is pretty much minimal and they had to ask him to waive his NTC to make it happen. Seems like a lot of effort for no return.

well it is some return and they aren't going anywhere. I imagine it was the best deal they could get for him

He's over 53% on faceoffs so that's an upgrade

Thompson, 34, has played 53 games for the Kings this season, recording four goals for six points and a plus-3 differential. The 6-foot-1, 207-pounder has also won 53.3% of his faceoffs.

A native of Anchorage, AK, Thompson has suited up in 672 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, and the Kings, posting 134 points (57 goals, 77 assists). He added 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) in 62 career playoff contests. Thompson was Boston's sixth-round pick (183rd overall) in 2003.

He waived his NTC to come here.

I think this was more about LA moving a player to give him an opportunity to play & maybe have a playoff run.   They werent going to get much for him from anybody. Consider it payback for not taking back Scherbak when they sent him down.

At least he is good in the face off circle

And from what i've read, he's a decent skater and a good PKer. Haven't really seen him play since his Boston days so will be interesting.

Still no news on who's getting moved to make room for him.

Yeah, i was just surprised on the return. You would think a rental NHL caliber 4th liner would get the 5th or 6th on it's own, without having to give back an almost equal pick. Maybe your on to something about Scherbak.

This is a definite upgrade from Peca and Chaput. He can kill penalties and is 53% on face offs. Cannot see anyone taking Chaput if he is sent down. Peca we might lose but he has not exactly earned a place on this team.
