Roy was traded to Colorado in 1995. Possibly Commodore (who likes to embellish mind you) means that we're seriously talking to Sakic about trading Price to Colorado?

Also a possibility.

Personally, I don't think Commodore has any working knowledge of what teams are doing, but he actually has been right about a few things in the past. I think he's more just talking to players he knows and getting a feel for what they think might be happening. I think his posts are more educated guesses based on chatter rather than knowing what discussions are being had by GM's.

In the end, I doubt Carey gets traded. If MB does trade him, there is zero reason for him to retain Petry, Tatar, or Weber to be honest. So you'd think a move to trade Price would be accompanied by Petry and Tatar trades, and it seems unlikely the Habs make three big trades at one deadline.

Apparently, from relatives in Montreal ... unusually, Carey practiced in a white unmarked mask today

Ya, it's a new specially constructed one. He tried it in practice yesterday. I understand it's more "form fitting".

FWIW, I don't see Price moving at the trade deadline. If anything, it would be a summer-time deal. And I don't see Bergevin or Molson willingly signing off on things. BUT one scenario where I could see Bergevin discussing a trade for Price with Sakic or other teams would be if Price himself has requested a trade. Before harping on the fact this is purely throwing out one conjecture without any evidence this has happened, let's just say that Carey has always been an unwilling superstar. He likes his privacy. He's from the West Coast, his wife is American. There are factors that may have him favor playing in places like Colorado, California, Vancouver, Alberta, or the new Seattle team. And all those places have potential openings for goalies.

With that in mind, let's also recall that Carey was pretty adamant this past off-season that he wants to win a Cup and that he felt like his window to do so was closing. He flat out said that he wanted to see Bergevin go all in and get the assets to help the team win now. Not only did Bergevin not do that, the GM was also fairly open about the fact he did not want to sacrifice high draft picks or top prospects to bring in veterans. He's already traded Scandella, and there are some reports he may be looking to move other guys, even if it doesn't end up being at the trade deadline. So if you're Carey, is it possible that you view this and say, you know what, the odds of my winning a Cup in the next 2 years in Montreal are pretty low. And Weber is getting older and is often hurt. And Petry may be on his way out if not this year than next. And there are plenty of other free agents among the core. And there's an expansion draft. If Carey is smart about this, and I think he is, he probably sees the same things fans and media see and realize this isn't a team that's close to competing for a Cup.

So it's not inconceivable that Carey has viewed the big picture and told Bergevin if you can find a way to get me to a team on the rise with good young players and that's closer to home, like Colorado or Vancouver or so on, then I'd be willing to consider that. Maybe he's specifically told Bergevin that Colorado is a spot that he would be willing or want to go to. And while we all know that Bergevin hasn't been heavily scouting Colorado to be able to flip Thompson or Kovalchuk there for a pick, it's hard to know whether there's been talk about Petry or Drouin or Tatar or Domi or Price. Trading Price seems counter-intuitive to everything Bergevin has taught us about how he runs this team. But it may be completely congruent with what Carey Price wants. So again, all just some speculation here, but Price has a full NMC and controls his own future to some degree, so if Price has chosen Colorado, that could well be a back story that explains the Col-Mtl action we've seen lately. Doesn't mean it would happen at the deadline, but could be something that builds over time. And if you're Colorado and your #1 goalie is out and you have the cap space, maybe it's something you consider if you convince Montreal to take back salary the other way.

Could this be something bigger than we all think? Could there be talk about a Price + Mete + 3rd for Johnson + Girard + Grubauer + Byram + a 1st for example?

Right after the tweet about 1995 ... Commodore also tweeted "my sources in the Big Apple have been blowing me up.....details being worked on to unload the King in the Rockies" ... so all just speculation

About an hour ago he tweeted for Drouin to pack his bags cause he was moving to the Avs. Ironic thing is he tweeted the exact same thing hours before about bogosan to Tampa even before TSN or Sportsnet broke the story. So I would say at least some of the info he receives is correct

Yup.

According to Commodore, Drouin is going to the Avs and Thompson to the Isle.

Seems pretty emphatic about it so it will be interesting to see if he knows what he's talking about.  This is one of the more brazen posts ive seen by an insider on twitter...

The Isles just picked up their center from Ottawa so doubt Nate ends up there too.

After all the games we scouted the Avs they better not post video of them out there on a sky trip.

i believe MB's daughter goes to school in Colorado so it is possible that he was just there for that & then did some (minor) scouting while there.

I mean he scouted Arizona for a week and then we got... weal.

Takes time to find that power play specialist.

Yeah but you don't take your head of hockey operations with you to visit your daughter at university

Eric Engels says it is almost a sure thing that Kovalchuk will be back next year. It's illegal, but it sounds like he and Bergevin already have an understanding of a deal in place.

I guess if the plan is to bring Kovalchuk back next year our prospect pool isn't nearly as good as it's hyped up to be.

Not much change expected next year whether it's good or not. We have a number of intriguing D prospects, but none who are blue chipper top 10 picks. Maybe we make something out of Harris, Norlinder, Struble, Romanov, Brook, and so on. We have Primeau. Up front, we have Ylonen coming to the AHL. We have Caufield staying in Wisconsin. Poehling and Kotkaniemi are centers and may be in Laval again next year. There really aren't a ton of winger prospects of note and certainly not any I would foresee having a high chance of breaking into the NHL line-up next year.

Ya know, we have either a weak scouting staff, or a weak developing staff. Just think of the 1rst rounders we drafted in the last 10 years. Personally, I am sick and tired of other teams developing their 1st rounder when we have done nothing.
