The Montreal Canadiens have announced today that forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday.

''With regards to Jesperi, it was a chronic, minor injury that did not stop him from playing this past season. Jesperi will remain in Montreal for the coming weeks to complete his rehabilitation program with our team's medical staff. We have been told by our medical group that there should be no delay in starting his offseason training," said Canadiens general manager, Marc Bergevin.

perhaps this explains his slowdown a bit more.

Also could explain the switch to wing for a bit - cartilage damage can make mobility painful & a north south wing position would be easier on him.

Its a little concerning he has this issue but i suppose its possible he's had it for years & they never diagnosed it in Finland.  Lets hope its as minor & speedy & the team would have us believe.

September 2019:

Bergevin: "Jesperi has a lower body injury and will be back soon."

December 2019:

Bergevin: "Jersperi has a lower body injury and there is no time frame for his return."

The team may have wanted to protect him some also. Anytime an opponent knows of a weakness then they will target that area more. This is a business along with a sport. As the playoffs wind down and teams are eliminated all fan bases will find out injuries that their teams players had. As much as fans may whine about it , we the fans actually don't have any "right" to know! The only reason the NFL does (they didn't always) is because of the pressure big $ in the betting industry and now fantasy leagues which are big money.

It may also explain why he wasn't given top minutes on the top lines as the season wore on.

Jonathan Drouin had surgery today to set a broken nose.  He broke this during the season (no indication of when) but they waited till now to reset it.

Apparently Habs brass say it is a very minor surgery and when fully healed he should have much more of a nose for the net.

sorry.

He only missed 1 game and never wore a cage. Seems more likely to me a team mate slugged him at the end of the season.

Probably Weber for all the drop passes that exploited Webers lack of speed.

So... what's up with Juulsen? The Montreal Canadiens said he would consult a specialist for a second opinion regarding headaches. That doesn't sound like a good thing.

EDIT: Sportsnet saying he's been kept off the ice after showing up to camp with headaches.

Doesnt sound good at all.

Makes you wonder how he could have gone the whole summer without incident?  And if he has been having them since last year, why are they just treating them now.

I really feel for the guy. I think he has solid top 4 potential but may get passed over by brook or fleury if this keeps up for long...

Chantal Machabee of RDS saying he has already left the team & is heading to Michigan to see a specialist...  ugg.

Yeah... Sounds like he might not be in contention for a spot during camp. He might have to start the season in Laval... If he starts the season at all.

sure sounds bad.   I read a medical student on a different board suggesting he may have some sort of muscle damage around or under the eye. This would not be apparent during usual activities or training but once he got into scrimmages, having to track the puck at high speeds could really inflame the area and thats why they (the training/medical staff) may have missed the complications originally.

apparently (according to this poster) if this is the case it may take another surgery to fix it.

Well, hopefully whatever the issue it can be fixed. If Juulsen needs another surgery and recovery, that's better than him not being able to play again.

Long list of injuries and the season hasn't even started yet, guess the hockey gods are making up for the injury bug passing us by most of last year.

McCarron - Groin - 6 Weeks

Byron - Unknown - Indefinitely

Poehling - Concussion - Indefinitely

Alzner - Groin - Day-today

Juulsen - Headaches - Indefinitely

Olofsson - Shoulder - Indefinitely

Ikonen - Leg - 6 months

That really sucks.  For both of them.   McCarron was apparently looking better than ever but just cannot catch a break.
