No, and i get that.  I mean would i rather lose Peca and Oulette than say Brook, Evans or Leskinen ?  Yes of course, but i think there are some assets who are not really a huge value and there are some (Alzner, Weise) who are actually a negative value.   Pretty sure all clear so its probably moot but i could see a team that is really lacking Dmen taking a chance on Ouellet

Maybe Ouellet but teams also know there will be more last minute cuts ( including us on D). If they pick up a guy they have to put him on the roster and can't just bury him in their system. IMO Ouellet had a poor camp.

True, but they can waive him too so its not a huge risk (although it looks bad for the organization to do that too many times)

Lines at practice this morning were as expected and look good. However both PP units are something to be desired with Drouin on the point again and Weal on the half wall on the first unit. and Armia on the second unit. No JK or AL on either unit. Not encouraging, whats the old saying? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Lehkonen - Domi - Suzuki
Drouin - Kotkaniemi - Armia
Byron - Thompson - Weal
Cousins

Mete - Weber
Chiarot - Petry
Kulak - Fleury
Reilly - Folin

Price
Kinkaid

The Canadiens also worked on the power play before practice officially began.

Here are the two units that were featured:

Weal - Danault - Gallagher
Drouin - Weber

Tatar - Domi - Armia
Suzuki - Petry

Yeah overall i quite like the lines. I hope we dump someone soon so that Poehling can come up & centre that 4th line but otherwise im ok with it.

The PP is a concern for sure. I like some of what they are doing & I understand why they have weal there (he was instrumental in kick starting it last year) but im not sure its sustainable.   I feel like that 2nd unit will be better than the first actually.  Would love to swap in JK or AL for Armia though. I know they want a big body there but he doesnt have the nose for the net for that kind of guy on the PP.

My thoughts exactly except the one other change I would make is either take Drouin right off or move him where Weal is and put Mete back there

Yup.

Apparently they want to go with 4F and 1D which is fine but it looks like Weber will be playing up high so i dont see the issue with having another Dman as the quarterback.

I have no problem with Fleury over Brook at this stage of their development but I think if Brook were here he'd be a great option for PP QB.

We'll see if it works, I guess. If they aren't going to move on the PP, and Weber isn't going to get down to the top of the circle on his off-side for one-timers, he's not going to score many PP goals. I also don't seem him as being an amazing distributor of the puck. I can just see it now... Drouin stuck to the wall, Weber stuck up high...

Sorry by "high" I meant he'll be up in the circle, with Drouin down low (at the blueline) which I think is the problem.  Im not sure if someone else (JK, Suzuki, Petry etc) would be better there but I am pretty sure Drouin isnt the answer as the QB.

I saw an article this morning I will see if I can find it again but the general outline was that the Canadiens were practicing the PP with Weber at the face off dot to onetime his shot and Drouin manning the blue line. This is a scary thought as you have your worst defensive guy on the team manning the blue line on his own. Plus he isn't exactly know for his effort to get back defensively. So I know exactly what you mean

Drouin was a bust on the half wall because 90% of the time his play was to pass back to the D and teams fed off that. I suppose playing him at the point forces him to look forward for a play. Not convinced he's the guy I want back there when opposing forwards pressure but the other way was a fail so I guess we'll see.

agree.  Overall i thought he had a pretty good game but dont love him as the PP QB.   Not sure where i'd put him on the PP though, but it would be silly not to use his skills there.

Not really sure why Danault always gets the best wingers, I like him but don't think he is really a top 6 center. He is a great 3rd line shutdown guy and gets a decent amount points but not many goals. I thought KK really brought out the best in Drouin, I know it was only game 1 and all but at least he showed some effort to get back in the play. Not looking forward to the game tonight if Kulak is out and Reilly is in that will be a tough night for Price. I thought the PP was getting some good looks last game although Drouin on the point scares the hell out of me.

Ideally Danault is your 3C. If he is, he might be the best one in the league though and he's passable a a 2C. I think Julien simply sees him as the next Patrice Bergeron, has no fear putting him out in any situation, and uses him as a security blanket. Danault doesn't hinder his linemates, since he can keep up skating wise, but he doesn't gave the top-end finish or skill to be a 1C.

Glad to see it.  CJ usually doesnt abandon building chemistry unless there's a really good reason for it.  It felt to me like he wanted to shelter Suzuki after the error and he wanted to go with the hot hand (Drouin) so he moved him up the lineup a little.

Agreed I think we'll see some lower line/pairing juggling soon just to keep the press box boys in game shape

Cousins left the ice with a lower body injury so the lines are pretty much set for at least the next few days.

i hope they decide what to do with the extra 'body' right now. I think they would rather have Poehling in the lineup but dont want to lose one of the reserves.   Thompson has played well but he's only a short term solution. Poehling is the future - the team knows that.  I wouldnt be surprised at all to see one of Reilly or Folin  traded this week.

He's not on LTIR yet is he? If so we could call up Poehling although i think they want a more permanent solution.

No not yet. Also the only way I see them calling up either Poehling or Evans is if they plan on playing them and sitting Thompson which at this point I don't think they are.

I think if he got called up we would definitely see a line up change. If Cousin is out for any extended time that could be his window. If he shows strongly I think you would see a move at that point.
