Well The Score is now writing that the Canes have officially matched. Guess this thread can now be archived. Must say it was a decent try by MB it was a long shot for sure but he can at least say he took a shot while every other GM just said they MAY.

So now we'll see whether MB has other plans for that cap space... another offersheet (which I'd be surprised by) or a trade or another signing (Gardiner? Dzingel?), etc...

I wouldn't mind Dzingle, but would maybe prefer Drouin + Juulsen + 2nd for Laine or maybe Drouin + + for ghost

Yeah, Dzingel is really a Plan B/C. This team needs a LHD and it needs a pure goal scorer. Laine would fit the latter need and seemingly isn't happy in Winnipeg. We have a lot of Finns, so it could be a place he's interested in playing... I would also try a trade here, but I'm not convinced Winnipeg would match an offer sheet if it was between 8-10M, especially if they get two 1st's, a 2nd, and a 3rd in return... like I've said, I think they need bodies at forward at cost-controlled prices, so Drouin, Danault, Lehkonen, and Hudon are guys who could make some sense for them.
