Players would never intentionally tank. They play for future contracts. It's management that tanks, and they do it by trading off roster players and playing guys like  Weise Weal and Cousins up front on the PP and bring back Alzner to quarterback it. Now that's a tank.

This.

If the team decides to tank you can expect guys like Tatar or Petry traded and you should look for guys like Gallagher or Weber to take games off because of 'lower body injuries.'

Nice shot by Kovalchuk on the GWG. I almost forgot how winning a hockey game feels.

Just for fun: Let's say he plays well and keeps scoring at a PPG clip right up until the deadline, do you guys think we could get a first-rounder for him?

I doubt it. Just because teams will know he struggled in LA and they'll call small sample size on what he did with us... I think best-case scenario is a 2nd or 3rd rounder... BUT, you could always make that deal and re-sign him in the off-season if there is mutual interest.

Yeah he has some value i think, it really does seem he is still in good enough shape to make it in this league. His shooting and hockey iq seem fine and he is far from slow.

Personally I never want to see a loss no matter how much better it makes our lottery chances. I don't watch hockey to see losses!

Yeah. Isn't 15 seasons of 'tanking' enough?

I still wouldn't watch that team play and I am sure there are a few others that wouldn't as well. I imagine if we started icing that line up ticket prices would have to drop to AHL levels in order for fans to pay to watch a game live

The problem is this team never truly tanked ... they continually shored up to "just make the playoffs" most years and this is the result your seeing.    A middling team, whose top line players would be 2nd line on most contenders.    We're pretty much the Oilers from the early 2000s .... not bad enough to be awful, but not good enough to take seriously.

I get the sentiment people have of "not wanting to watch a losing team" ... having said that, sometimes what hurts makes you stronger.   And this perpetual "lets just make the plaoyffs" mentality is never going to get us back to the teams of the 70's, 80's or early 90s.   Not in this day and age.

Fans have been watching a losing team since 1993 and things won't change as long as management is afraid to take risks and is content just to make the playoffs.
