Wow, didn't see that one coming. I like Anderson, hopefully he can stay healthy.

The 26-year-old right-winger was only able to play 26 games in the 2019-20 regular season, posting just four points before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury. He missed the Blue Jackets’ post-season run as he recovered from surgery to repair the issue. He’s now been out of action for nearly 10 months since his last NHL game.

The previous season was a much more productive one for him, with a career-high 27 goals and 47 points. He sported a career shooting percentage of 11.5% at the conclusion of that campaign, and that’s the type of performance Marc Bergevin is gambling on for his club heading into the new year.

Anderson is a restricted free agent who received his qualifying offer from Columbus on Monday. He will need to sign an extension with Montreal to play next year. His expiring deal was for three seasons, and carried an AAV of $1.85 million. His official addition would fill a hole on the right side, which has become the weakest area of the Canadiens’ lineup.

Max Domi is a restricted free agent as well, and had 45 goals and 71 assists in 153 NHL games with the Canadiens over two seasons.

Oh, we added a 3rd? Thought it was a one for one, MB vintage move. Thought Domi's value was a little higher to be honest, Anderson comes with question marks attached after all.

I won't cry over this deal. Was never a Domi fan. Guys like him and Shaw are too much of a distraction for my liking. People may call it truculence but when it results in stupid penalties at critical times in a game,,, i call it idiotic. Both those guys were guilty of that way too many times. Let's hope Anderson can rebound from an injury filled season.

The guy is an RFA also. I expect to hear about a contract soon.

It's another trade where you have to question the value MB got on his guy. Domi's value was much higher at the start of last year and completely dropped over the season as he got demoted to 4th line center and spare winger.

Many people in the media thought Domi had higher value than Anderson. Domi is younger, he's a center, he has a higher ceiling in terms of what he's produced, he has less injury history, etc. So surprised we not only gave up the better player on paper but had to add in a 3rd rounder.

All in all, we're a better team with Anderson than Domi just because Anderson fits our needs better and we didn't have a spot for Domi. But Domi fits Columbus' needs better, so really don't get the payment here. Excited to see Anderson and how he fits in but less than impressed with what MB gave up to make the trade.

TSN is talking to McGuire now, and they're talking about his future contract, whether it should be a bridge deal or longer. McGuire said that if they give him a bridge deal, and Anderson explodes, we'll pay for it later.

Yeah kind of surprised  at that myself.  Would have though they would be throwing in the pick.

Not the worst move. Addresses a need. Domi was clearly on the outs, would have liked to have kept him though.

Kinda surprised myself. Should have been one for one. I think Bergy was getting worried,  the later it got. If Anderson stays healthy,  it could work out great for us, but I think WE should have been getting a conditional pick back, dependant on Anderson being fit to play. This is a fingers crossed kinda deal. I guess kudos to Bergy for trying. Hopefully,  this works out. Bit of a gamble.

Have to wonder what this means for Kovalchuk too. Not really a need for him any more, and Habs also rumored to be looking into Simmonds as a 4th line winger. Getting crowded. Have to wonder if Tatar also on his way out soon...

I don't think he's going to put excessive numbers up but who knows ...I see him more as a Turner Stevenson type with a little more scoring ability ...bonus points are that he is a good skater , big & tough ...also that I think he'll cost maybe even up to $2 mill less per than Domi gets from Columbus ....the chances of Montreal's smaller players getting pushed around just went down substantially with Edmundson and Anderson in the line-up

I love this trade but I agree, I don't think we should have thrown in a pick; one's a center,  one has size both coming off tough years after breakout years. Seems like a simple one for one, but given how much I like this trade, I'm not going to cry over a 3rd round pick. Very happy with this

yeah i think at this point Simmonds would make more sense than Kovalchuk. Simmonds would be the better 4th line winger and you have Gallagher, Anderson and Armia in front of him

I'm going to guess and say it's the free 3rd rounder we got from Washington for Kovy ....

no we trade that one Jake Allen, this was actually our 3rd rounder so we no longer have one. We do have 3 seconds and 3 fourths

You have to figure if MB was smart that he would have started by offering Domi for Anderson AND a pick coming back to us, for the reasons I listed above. Still shaking my head about how he got suckered into giving up a 2nd line center for a 2nd line winger and being the one to throw in an extra pick...

It will be interesting to see who he lines up with.

thx ..didn't look it up but I'm not too worried about a third rounder who would be something like a 78 or 79th pick and lower expectations to make the NHL ....still I'm surprised a 3rd rounder was thrown in unless some other team was offering more in trade talks

I'm guessing with Drouin and Suzuki. I think Tatar and Gallagher stay together probably centered by Danault but maybe Kotkaniemi

I'm sure there were other teams vying to obtain Anderson. Might explain the addition of a third rounder, for sure.

Like many, I also think it is us that should have gotten the “throw in” pick. That is one area where MB tends to lack.
That said... One down, two to go.
