Some folks comment more often when the team is having a rough patch.......not sure what that means.... I for one feel we are about where we should be with what we have to work with. I am in the camp that feels a new coach with a more modern take on the NHL may help us but there is still some work to do with the lineup and our young players are going to have highs and lows anyone who feels they should score all the time is high. some of our vets are very underwhelming this year so far. Dano Webber Byron Leks  Armia and a couple of others have been very flat no excuse for it after our great start I think this year heads will roll money was spent it is time.

Gallagher has 5 goals, Tatar has 4 goals, Weber has 2 goal and Chiarot has 1 goal and 4 points. These are supposed to be our top players who are supposed to lead our team. Instead of ragging on the young guys how about ragging on the guys who are actually supposed to be the team leaders and top players on the team?

Not ragging on the young guys .

Pointing out that goals from ALL the Centres is lacking

And FWIW, Not expecting much in the way of offence from Weber or Chiarot. Yea they could play better D but they aren't young anymore

Tatar was benched ,

Byron cleared waivers .

Drouin has 1 goal, and 10 assists, seems people are fine with his work ethic .

BG's 6 goals is on pace for 30 on 82 game season , so he's on par .

Wondering at this point what trade value Shea Weber has. The more we play, the more you have to consider just exposing him in the ED to get out from his contract.

One thing's for sure, the Habs cannot continue to play with him, Chiarot, and Edmundson in the line-up together. And missing a 2nd puck mover on the blue line like Kulak hurts the Habs because all they have right now in that category is Petry. The rest aren't good. They cannot cannot cannot keep withdrawing Kulak from the line-up. That's just bad coaching and not understanding your line-up. I said it at the start of the year, but the Habs looked good with Petry and Weber fresh but I didn't think that could be sustained with them holding up the rest of the dregs on the D corps once they tired out. Now we're seeing how badly-constructed the D corps is, and this hurts the offence when you can't move the puck up and get the offence chances.

Biggest priorities for this team right now (and there are a lot) would be

1. Re-order the D to get Kulak and Romanov into the top 4 and to sit Chiarot in the press box.

2. Figure out the miserable special teams. Might require firing Muller (or dare we go there Julien)

3. Bump Danault down the line-up and get his old wingers going. Line shake-up desperately needed.

4. Figure out team discipline. Can't continue being so highly-penalized, especially if you're in a division with Matthews, McDavid, Marner, Draisaitl, etc.

Lots of work to do.

Some comments from Habs twitter..

Habs Blogger Dan Kramer: Shouldn’t be a hot take. But: #Habs Shea Weber’s play has been terrible this season, with the exception of a couple of periods. He has been a bigger problem than Carey Price.

TSN690's Conor McKenna: The knives are out for Julien, but adding Joel Edmundson to a D corps that already featured outdated and lumbering players like Weber and Chiarot was horrible from Bergevin. You can't have three guys like that in your top six in today's NHL.

Brian Wilde (on how the Habs' D is terrible outside of Petry): Getting a kick at how both Habs goalies are two of the best three first-passers on the team.

And Habs' Blogger Lori as a response to Dan Kramer: It’s only a hot take because no one will say it. Every analyst and sportswriter has been force fed the myth of the man mountain. But if you think Shea Weber is playing good hockey this season, your credibility is shot for me. #Habs

What I've been saying for the past two weeks: Weber's been bad and people are refusing to admit this because of his reputation. Take his reputation out and he's a big, slow defenceman who has been caught out of position way too many times and isn't producing much. What has Weber done in the past 2-3 weeks that Edmundson hasn't?

Painfully true, & so obvious. A team that can't get it out of there own end, will not win many hockey games.

The other coaches are effectively coaching against Julien's system and he has to adapt quickly or he becomes the problem. If he can't change strategy on the fly he shouldn't be surprised if MB's loyalty reaches the breaking point.

Last year, these rough patches cost us the season. Last few years, the common denominator has been CJ. I am in the same camp in regards to a new coach. Gerard Gallant, anyone?

Weber only Hab in the negatives.  -  4   Edmundson   +16       Petry    +15

Gerard Gallant is living at home in PEI. Habs need to swoop in before it's too late. Other teams are considering coaching changes. GG should have been the next coach last time, when he was with the Habs. Bergy knows him. Bergy can't blow this one.

Comments from an armchair coach......

Mete is terrible!!  Far too small to play D in the NHL, watching the Ottawa player man handle him and skate around him like a pylon for the first goal was a joke.  He is too small and weak to play the body and relies on his speed.

Weber needs to play like the mountain man he is, use his body.  He isn't very fast so he has to use intimidation and smarts

Price...... Needs to just retire!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have supported him from day 1 and have never said anything this harsh towards him before.  But I seriously question his willing to compete anymore, he seems like he is there just for the cash and has no desire to win or could careless.

PD needs to be put on waivers, if someone claims him who cares!  He is bringing own the entire line!  For a defensive "specialist" he is horrible, constantly beat in the face off circle, and really not very useful on the PK as Toronto went 3/5.

Julien needs to be fired!!!!!  I said this last year, he is an old school coach who can't coach in today's NHL.  Can't change game plans on the fly, the PP under him is a predictable as 2+2=4.  Does not shake up the lines and has too much faith in his "veterans"

Could not agree more! Not sure what is going on with #31 but he has been less than average this year! #34 is playing much better and he would be my 1st choice going forward. Last night Jake stood on his head for that bunch of lost souls and he did not deserve the loss! The guys in front of him need to apologise for their lack of effort because they were brutal! The overtime was a joke! I have never been a fan of CJ and every year goes by with me wondering why he is still there? His coaching methods are outdated and he has no concept of how to get ths team motivated. The special teams coach needs to be fired now! The PP is a disaster and just amplifies the terrible play while five on five. This team right now is our of control and the guy in the $1000 suit is totally lost! This team has a lot of talent and is way deeper than the Leafs but on Saturday with the lackluster performance of Price and lack of effort by the team for the last two periods was a disgrace to the franchise. With a game every second night this team is in trouble! There is no time to alter course and besides they just had a week off resulting in the all of the mistakes they were making to be amplified by a hundred fold. Four losses in their last six and a short season will find this team being passed by very quickly by the teams behind.

CJ has not done anything with this team since his arrival and will continue to drag down the performance with his 1980's approach to the game. This team has a lot of talent and right now they kinda resemble a good Jr A team. A search is needed immediately to see if they can find the team that started the season. They are still in the locker room but they need someone to pull them out of the listless confused bodies that are sitting there!

Very disappointng indeed!:5064:

I am not so sure about Gallant. I had always thought Ducharme was the coach in waiting trainee.

Time to think about going after RFA LD Vince Dunn ($1.875M) who had fallen out of favour in St. Louis who are up against the cap. I would love to dump Chiarot and retain salary. I would dump Mete and a 2nd rounder in a heartbeat and have St. Louis retain salary. Not so sure I would do a Kulak for Dunn as their salaries are about even.

I am also not too sure about Gallant or Ducharme? But right now I am not too sure about anybody especially those wearing the uniform right now! I could sit here and indicate individual players but this is a team effort and everyone right now needs to take a long look in the mirror and ask themselves if the feel they are giving 100% as an employee of this company. There are a few if they were in the workplace right now would be packing up theri desks! The $10 million/year guy needs to realise that he has to earn that money not just deposit the cheques each month! The guy backing him up is working his butt off to enable him to play better according to CJ! Well it is not working! Hello!!!!

Can hardly wait for Tues? :4883:

we're not going to find a better french coach then CJ. Gallant doesn't speak french

Price is mostly playing like crap, Weber I think started off well but is now also playing like crap. We need our best players to be our best player if we have any chance of winning.

That is one of our biggest issues!  Why does he need to speak French?  It should be the best man for the job

We seriously just shoot ourselves in the foot with that entire mentality

Gerard Gallant = best NHL coach outside of the NHL. doesn't speak French.  Also, has a similar coaching style to Michel Therrien. Maybe we don't want to go there, although,  MT has been somewhat successful. Weber leads the Habs in ice time, by a large amount. Basically,  they go with 5 D. If Bergy thinks that Dunn is a top 4D, then he should try to get him. Can not give up a first round draft pick in any trade. We need to play Weber less.

I agree,  I would like to see us pair our D men up so there are less short commings.  I.E. pair up Webber with Kulak or Romanov, their speed will offset Webber slow as shit. Combine Petry and Chairot for the same reasoning just a thought anyways

Think it is a little early to abandon the ship. Getting rid of Claude is a great idea, never liked him from day one. His inability to adjust during a game, is hard to watch.

The whole team is playing poorly, blaming this player or that player is not of any help. I am confident that the guys will turn it around. This team is the best we have had in many years. As Suzuki said they are playing not to lose and that attitude needs to change.
