Just as he was heating up. I hope its not too serious, who knows with concussions.

I'd move Lehkonen up from the 4th line and play Toffoli on the right.

4th line, Evans, Perry and Frolik if Byron isn't available

Unless Byron goes on the LTIR you cant bring both of those guys up, we're too close to the cap.  If Armia goes LTIR (likely since he's got a concussion) then we should be able to bring up one but im not sure about both.

Overall, Its going to be interesting to see what the team does, replacement-wise.

If they are day to day, IR doesnt help cap.  If they go on LTIR then obviously their $ comes off the cap but that means they have to stay out of the lineup for a while.   If Byron, for example, was to go on the LTIR then we could bring in Perry and Frolik.  If neither guy goes on LTIR then i think we might not even be able to bring one of them. It would be close.

We might try to hobble along and dress a 7th dman next game (Mete's already with the team) or we could conceivably send a waiver exempt Romanov to the taxi squad, replace him with Mete and then bring in Frolik or Perry.

Definitely a little bit more confusing than years past because of the taxi squad and how close we are to the cap.

If we have 2 forwards down, that certainly creates a problem, because we don't have a spare forward (other then the taxi squad) on the current roster. The only spare body we have is Mete i believe. Does he pencil in as a forward if Byron is a no go? I know we won't waive him to the taxi squad to bring up a forward because no way he would clear with both the Pens and Nucks desperate for D.

so im reading up a bit in various places and LTIR is 24 days and 10 games (I still don't know if its both or the lessor of the two) BUT if you are rostering less than  20 players, you can exceed the cap by the league minimum + 800k. So that would allow us to bring in Perry (or Frolik). However, we may have to dress a 7th defenseman rather than the 12th forward

And we do have exactly 10 games scheduled in the next 24 days.

My interpretation is that it is both. A player needs to be out at least 24 days AND at least 10 games.

Right now, the Habs have a cap hit of 80.77M. Armia is making 2.6M. So if he goes on LTIR, then the Habs could theoretically spend up to 83.37M for the period that Armia is out. I've seen reports of not being able to call up both Perry and Frolik in this situation, but I haven't figured out why if we have the cap space.

At present, the Habs do have enough cap room acquiesced to be able to add one of Perry or Frolik without placing anyone on LTIR. So if Byron is good to go or if the Habs are okay with using Mete as a forward, they could technically recall Perry or Frolik and avoid putting Byron or Armia on LTIR.

Question: Do injured non rostered players count against the cap game to game? I guess so.

but surely not on the LTIR. THERE’s no league where that counts against the cap. That situation is usually where teams begin saving on cap space?!

Yes players on the roster count against the cap when injured, but no, not if they are on the LTIR.   The problem with LTIR (as mentioned above) is that if a player is only going to be out a couple of games, you would have to lose him for up to a month to get those savings.

Forward Joel Armia skated briefly on Tuesday morning for the first time since suffering a concussion last Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. There is no timetable for his return.

Anyone know the concussion protocol? Is there a specific number of games to be missed or is it up to the doctor(s)?

How far back can they go, say retroactively,  if the decide to put Armia on LTIR? Because this day to day thing can go on forever.

I think they can go back retroactively to the first day of the injury. If they place him on LTIR he's then officially out for the 24 days or 10 games from that initial date. Somebody please correct me if i'm wrong.

Up until last year, it was a minimum 7-day protocol to clear. This year, the timeframe was removed. It's not based purely on when Armia is able to clear symptoms and pass his testing. So it's conceivable he could even be back Thursday if he was well enough.

From TSN

Canadiens forward Joel Armia (concussion) was absent from Friday morning's practice. The 27-year-old has not skated since taking a hit to the head from Vancouver Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers on Jan. 21.

Pretty much contradicts the earlier report of him skating.

Great news. :)

Not a given. My mom went into the hospital on New Years day with Covid symptoms and tested negative. Four days later they tested again and it was positive. I was told it can take up to 5 days to get a positive test once you experience symptoms. Let's hope this is not the case with Anderson.

Man I have no idea. I know I have no legal or legitimate right to know what is wrong with JA. I sure hope the best for him though if it's any of my business.

All i really do know is that I want to be buried at sea. The crew can wear masks. Hell. Everybody can do that. Just don't go to the gym afterwards till a nice Sunday if that makes any sense.
