We haven't had this thread around in a little while, but thought I'd bring it back. It's time to break up the Danault line. He isn't creating enough offence to support playing that role with those wingers any longer, and JK should be given that shot. I'd go

Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson

Tatar-Kotkaniemi-Gallagher

Toffoli-Danault-Armia

Byron-Evans-Lehkonen

I like it, it's worth a shot.

I would like to see

Drouin-Suzuki-anderson

Tatar-Kotkaniemi-Gallaghet

Toffoli-Evans-Armia

Danault gets 4th line role until he starts putting in the effort to earn a larger role. He was upset when we played him in a shutdown role in the playoffs and threatened to leave. Now IMO he has to earn his spot back cause he isn't performing in the 1C role.

Switch up the D as well

Romanov-Petry

Mete-Weber

Chiarot-Kulak

Allen

Price

See if time apart fixes some of our defensive issues as well. Carey is also going to need to earn playing time back.I think you give him tomorrow and Saturday off then reevaluate the situation next week.

I like your thought process with the forwards. On Dee though, it seems a little too dramatic a change. Keeping in mind, that they will play the studs regardless,  I propose Petry/Edmundson,  Weber/Romanov and Kulak/Chiarot with Mete rotating in regularly for all 6. (& that includes Weber!)

Agree about Danault.

Right now I think we can agree our best line is Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson (and I wouldnt change anything about it) and our 4th line (Byron-Evans-Lehks) is really strong for a 4th.

The JK / Toffoli pairing is nice but Id also swap PD and JK at this moment.  PD is not meeting expectations (and we're over a dozen games in now...so thats concerning) and as much as I like Toffoli and Armia, they dont compare to Tatar & Gallagher.

Will Julien try it?  Time will tell. Maybe PD on the 3rd will get him going (less harsh matchups, different linemates etc)

I have been saying this about Dano for a while now he has no jump even his D work while still good is not at it's normal level. we are wasting two of our best offensive wingers right now we are not a team that can afford to do that without superstar game breakers we need everyone pulling their weight.

Danault is putting management in a tough spot. If he plays lower in the lineup the lower his value becomes.

Need to flip him before he has no value. Already has his UFA status working against us.

Certainly time to swap out KK an Danualt.

I would even be happy if they just swapped Gallagher and Armia. I line off KK. Toff and Gally would work also I think

And give them more then one or two games before they say see that did not work

That would work for me. That way, it doesn't look like they are targeting PD.

Don't love the lines as they are right now. Still want to see Kotkaniemi with Gallagher or even reunited with Drouin and Armia. Drouin's starting to tail off a bit and Tatar needs to put in a bit more effort. So I wouldn't mind mixing it up a bit after the long week off to practice with some new lines:

Tatar-Suzuki-Anderson

Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Gallagher

Lehkonen-Danault-Toffoli

Byron-Evans-Armia

Agree. I hope they are trying different things during practice to apply in the upcoming games.

Ive actually always subscribed to a tandem being more important than a whole line. Usually 2 players on a line click more than all 3.  So while i wouldnt even consider breaking up Suzuki-Anderson, Id actually be fine swapping Drouin with someone.    Like you, i think Tatar in his place & Drouin back with JK (they had some really nice chemistry at one point in the past).  The variable for me is Toffoli - but im also not sure what his peak is. He wont look out of place on any of those lines and im not convinced which wing he is more effective at.

The pairs Id like to see:

Suzuki-Anderson
Kotkaneimi-Gallagher
Lehkoen-Danault (those two play a devastating forecheck - i dont know why we dont see them together more because they are terrific as a pair)

After that i'd build my lines around those guys.

Time to switch things up. A few players playing stale lately. I'd go

Tatar-Suzuki-Anderson

Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Gallagher

Toffoli-Evans-Armia

Lehkonen-Danault-Byron

Romanov-Weber

Kulak-Petry

Edmundson-Mete

I would like to see Frolik in the lineup at some point - Do you sit Lehkonen or push Frolik to his off wing and sit Armia ?

Why sit Lekonen, he has play really well. Maybe sit Danualt ... Drouin, Suzuki and Anderson, Tatar, KK and Gallagher, Lekonen Jake Evans and Toffoli, Byron, Frolik and Armia

Sit Danualt a game or two

Agree that if we're doing this on Merit, Lehks should not have sat and Danault should have.  My guess is that Julien is trying to bust Danault out of his slump (that alone probably wins us a few more games over the past stretch) but at some point a game off to watch from the stands can sometimes do more good than just hoping things will turn around. Interestingly, Tatar, who was a healthy scratch once already, was benched for the last 1/2 of the 3rd yesterday, and all of OT.

I am not sure why Danault is getting slack but Tatar is not.  Both are under-performing but i don't think either is guilty of lack of effort, things are just not working for them.  So you give one guy lots of slack an punish the other.

Can't sit Danault. He's already dealing with his contract that he turned down, and the fact he's not producing offensively. I'm of the belief, that he really isn't carrying his weight defensively as well. So they're not going to try to upset him. They'll target other players on his line.  As for Lehkonen, he is probably the player that gives the most effort game in and game out. It's all about handling the fragile players with kid gloves.

Wouldnt that be all the more reason to sit him?  He's been noexistant offensively and his defensive game (especially on the PK) has not been up to snuff - why handle him with kid gloves? Maybe he needs the shock.

What id like to see right now:

Drouin - Suzuki - Anderson  (only line thats working most nights. dont touch it)
Tatar - JK - Gallagher (Kotkaniemi has been our 2nd best centre. give him the next best available wingers. Tatar should always stay with Gallagher)
Lehkonen - Danault - Toffoli (Trust me, this line will work.  Lehks/Danault are great together & Toffoli has been good everywhere)
Byron - Evans - Armia  (Perry to sub in at times)

On defense im less sure.  I would start by giving Weber a more mobile Dman. Kulak is the best choice imho but Mete or even Romanov might work. Edmundson has gotten better alongside Petry so im ok with keeping them together.  Chairot needs to move down the lineup. I think he can be effective on the 3rd pair but Weber cant (or at least hasnt) carry him anymore.

Edmundson - Petry
Kulak - Weber
Chairot/Romanov/Mete

I like your lines as well, however Danualt needs to sit a game or two.  Not only because of his play, he is Julien go to center and if he is not in the lineup you have to adjust.

Reading Suzuki comments we are playing not to lose is Julien approach, first game of the season,

Danualt starts in overtime, we have more offensive players.

A game before before  the week off, 4 on 4 with an offensive start, out goes,  Danualt.

When Muller took over from Julien, Danault played where he should play third line center minutes with Julien that will not happen.

Here is my Dee :)

Romanov - Weber

??? - Petry

???  - ???

I was down on the Edmundson trade although honestly I think he's fit better with Petry than any of the other "defensive d" we've tried there.  Im ok leaving him on that pairing. But having both Edmundson and Chairot in our top 4 is really not a good thing imho.

Again, had we gone out & got a legit top pairing LD, i think our d would be look substantially better.  If Edmunson & Petry can handle top pairing minutes maybe Weber + Romanov or Mete is ok for the second pair.

I agree. I would sit him in a heartbeat. I just don't think it will happen. He wants to be a number one center, and says that he is more than a defensive player. It's time to put up, or shut up. You're right.  He needs to be shocked!

Will we see some different line combos in the next 24 hours?

Just an absolute guess (and not necessarily what I would do), but a lot of times when new coaches take over they go back to something that's worked before and they try to appease veterans to get their support. I would not in the least be surprised if he reunites Tatar-Danault-Gallagher and just hopes the coaching swap lights a fire under them. I also wouldn't be surprised if he keeps the Suzuki line together, but at the same time I think he might see Suzuki as needing a jumpstart, and Drouin has played well withe JK/Armia in the past. So my guess is he goes

Toffoli-Suzuki-Anderson

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher

Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Armia

Byron-Evans-Perry

We have enough forward depth and no Flynn/Weal/Weise/King/Martinsen types that I'm not super worried about how the forward combos shake out. I am much more interested in whether he recognizes the problems on D. If he's sharp, he'll line up Kulak-Petry, Romanov-Weber, Edmundson-Mete. What I think we'll end up seeing is

Edmundson-Petry

Romanov-Weber

Chiarot-Kulak

which is maybe a small step up but not enough in my view.
