That was bad too but this feels way more vicious to me.

Break a guy's neck and you don't even get 2 minutes on the ice much less a suspension. Prepare to be disgusted by todays dirtbag play.

Montreal players should keep their mouths shut about any retribution. They don't have to run their mouths off, just take care of business and don't give the NHL any ammunition to use against them. Armia already said too much.

yup.

Paul Maurice was asked to comment on Edmundson's words, to which he said it isn't wise for Edmundson to say what he did as the league will see any action as premeditated.

I agree but they are pissed. this is just a bad deal all around I have lost all respect for the Jets and the league for letting that maniac spend the game trying to hurt someone! surprise they got it done.

Martin Biron: "Such a dangerous hit with only purpose to hurt a player. Scheifele is a great player but hit like that shouldn’t be part of the game. I would think this will be an in-person (zoom) hearing going 5 plus at least."

Pete Blackburn (Bruins fan/media): "Scheifele made absolute no attempt to play the puck. And given how hot he was minutes before, it feels a little extra predatory. Just a completely unnecessary vicious hit with no regard for the other guy's safety"

Erik Erlendsson (TB media): "That's a disgusting hit by Scheifele and while it's somewhat in the run of play, it's predatory from a player who was already riled up and frustrated. Warrants a lengthy suspension."

Mike McIntyre (Wpg media): "Mark Scheifele has been completely unglued for most of the game, and that just went so far beyond the line. Just a brutal, ugly play that is likely going to warrant a lengthy suspension. This was a player (Scheifele) who has been pretty out-of-control all game and just tried to take his pound of flesh on a vulnerable opponent in shocking fashion."

Scott Wheeler (The Athletic): "The Scheifele hit is gutless. Don’t let anyone off the hook with taking points about point of contact. It’s predatory and the only way it’s not suspendable is if the rules are broken. There’s no reason to deliver it. It’s a frustrated player trying to hurt someone. It’s bullshit."

Steve Dangle Glynn (Leafs blogger): "There aren’t any laws when the net is empty and early in a playoff series, the intention is clear: To injure an opponent heading into the next game. This is direct to the head and he shouldn’t see another second is this series. Enough."

Even Eklund: "Absolutely no excuse for Scheifele leveling Jake Evans. Thoughts are with Jake. He’s a hell of a player. Scheifele should be gone for the series. No question."

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe: "Right thing is to suspend Scheifele for 10 games, return then subject to Bettman's review. Don't want to hear Parros nonsense. Time for NHL to believe in its product."

Ducharme also saying that the league will take care of it and if they don't there will be consequences. He adds that when Tavares went down, everyone knew it was an accident and players on both teams felt bad about it. Says he didn't get any sense of remorse or support from the Jets after the game and that they didn't seem unhappy about the hit.

1. There's that.

2. Evans is out at least a week from a deliberate attempt to injure because of concussion protocol and probably longer. That's at least the next 4 games. There's zero reason Scheifele should be allowed back before that.

3. This was a deliberate attempt to injure, so even the series is not sufficient for me. This is up there with Bertuzzi taking out Moore on purpose. Scheifele made no attempt to play the puck and he was spending his entire night trying to hurt people, so there was intent. Anything less than 20 games is a farce.

Well, it was a CHARGING major! So even the refs seen it, and are not trying to cover it up. There is no way, that the Dept. of Player Safety can downplay this hit, Scheifele never slowed down, with his full rink dash, and didn't even try to play the puck, making Evans head the point of contact. This goes beyond lack of respect!  This was predatory!
