Nikita Kucherov reportedly out with a serious injury again and may require surgery with a long-term recuperation period. Sound oddly familiar? Guessing the injury is real, of course, but will the recovery be realistic or will Tampa miraculously have their players back right at the start of the playoffs yet again?

With the backlash from fans last year and the announcement that the NHL would look into the LTIR players before the playoff last year. I would assume they would scrutinize Tampa pretty closely at this point.

Canadiens: Geoff Molson Met With Patrick Roy More Than Once

The Canadiens are never short of a few interesting bits of news to ignite the fan base regardless of the time of the year. Something will always creep out of nowhere as there are literally thousands of sleuths and reporters constantly digging for the latest piece of news regarding Montreal’s historic franchise.

Well look no further as the rumor mill is churning harder than ever. With General Manager Marc Bergevin’s status with the team up in the air as he enters the final year of his contract, the name of Patrick Roy has resurfaced as the potential replacement for the big seat at the Bell Center.

Danny Gélinas, a reporter for “La Voix de l’Est”, a French newspaper based out of Granby, Quebec, has reported that Marc Bergevin’s time in Montreal is indeed over and that Patrick Roy is the favorite to take on the role of General Manager.

he article talks about how when you have a bad off-season, the actual season ends up being just as bad. Gélinas states the obvious: Losing Weber and Price, losing Danault to LA, losing Kotkaniemi to an offer sheet, the injuries, etc. All things that have been discussed ad nauseum.

Where things get interested however, is when Gélinas claims to have contacts within the organization confirming him that Bergevin won’t return with the Canadiens in 2022-23 regardless of the outcome. Gélinas also lambasted Bergevin for his press conference about Carey Price where he broke down crying, calling the scene “pathetic”.

Regarding Patrick Roy, people have reported having spotted him and Geoff Molson together on more than one occasion. One of those occasions was at the Hilton Hotel in Quebec City where both men were seen walking in together last spring. The other spotting is said to have been as early as a month ago in Montreal. Remember, Roy hired Neil Glasberg last spring as his new agent in order to find a new coaching or management job in the NHL. So the timing of the reports make sense.

To add even more fuel to the fire, Larry Brooks of the New York Post published an article claiming that Marc Bergevin will be joining the LA Kings organization as of next season.

This isn’t the first time Bergevin and the Kings have been linked together. Kings President Luc Robitaille is a close friend of Bergevin and has tried more than once to lure the Canadiens GM to the west coast. WIth Bergevin’s children living in the US and of course the much “healthier” pressure in a market like the Kings versus the Canadiens, it’s almost a no-brainer for Bergevin to go work with his friends in sunny California. That being said, current Kings GM Rob Blake is also in the final year of his contract. Either Bergevin takes the helm of the Kings or he will seat in between Blake and Robitaille in a Vice President of Hockey Operations role, something that has been created by many organizations in order to bring in more hockey minds into the mold.

Unless everyone is completely wrong in this story and suddenly Bergevin does sign a contract extension to remain in Montreal, it seems almost inevitable that he will be leaving La Belle Province once the season is over, or if the team goes on a downward spiral and everyone gets fired like in 1995

The question remains, who replaces him? Patrick Roy who’s upper management experience is limited to General Manager of the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL and Vice President of Hockey Operations while he was also coach of the Colorado Avalanche, a position he abruptly quit after arguments and disagreements about the way the team is run under his old friend Joe Sakic? Mathieu Darche, the current Director of Hockey Operations with the Tampa Bay Lightning? Roberto Luongo? Martin Brodeur? All individuals who are currently carving their managerial careers in their own way.

Or what if they just stick internally? What if Trevor Timmins finally takes the reigns of a team after being offered the position more than once by opposing teams? Or Scott Mellanby or Martin Lapointe gets a promotion?

Whatever happens, the soap opera that is a Montreal Canadiens season will continue to have more plot twists than ever.

If that report has legs and Roy is the next GM, i certainly hope we're not in for another case of deja vu (Houle).

I think Roy would know how to build a contending team, look what he did as coach of the Avs. They went from last to first in their division in one off season with very little roster changes. The only reason he left Colorado is because he wanted more say over the roster and the Avs appointed Sakic GM and they didn't agree on the direction of the team. Also his QMJHL team is a perennial contender (not saying that it is the same thing to build a minor league team as an NHL team but at least there are similarities to build off)

Id still have serious doubts about a guy with NO GM experience at the pro level. He may be great at it, but what you do in Junior doesn't always translate to the NHL. As much as i love Roy, he does have that air of arrogance about him. You need to build relationships with other GM's if you want to get a fair shake on transactions IMO. Will he be able to play the game with the other guys at that level? Remains to be seen. I would feel more comfortable if he had at least been an assistant somewhere in the NHL the last few years. I really don't want to see another decade of failures a la Houle. Getting too old here.

Evander kane suspended for 21 games and no pay for his false coivid passport - atta boy evander , you can’t be much stupider than that . Oh wait he claimed bankruptcy 🤦‍♂️

“I would like to apologize to my teammates, the San Jose Sharks organization, and all Sharks fans for violating the NHL COVID protocols." Kane wrote in a statement released by the NHLPA.

"I made a mistake, one I sincerely regret and take responsibility for.  During my suspension, I will continue to participate in counseling to help me make better decisions in the future.  When my suspension is over, I plan to return to the ice with great effort, determination, and love for the game of hockey.”

I wonder if San Jose can terminate his contract.

That season he also rode a red hot goaltender. He seemed to lose his players just as fast following that season. The "fiery" personalities like, Torts ect. wear thin quickly.

Roy = PASS for me

i'll take him if Tremblay is Assistant GM.  The fireworks alone would be worth it ;)

Its mind boggling. Dude has some serious mental issues he needs to work out.

You do wonder.  Usually you can only buy out a player placed on unconditional waivers & you can only do that for a couple of weeks in June. In this case though, Kane has made some pretty flagrant transgressions, I wonder if a lawyer could get them out of that contract.

Usually the only way to terminate a contract, mid-season is to have both parties agree on it. Kane has 4 year left on his deal. No way he agrees to leave $28m on the table at this stage.

Don't most NHL contracts have a morality clause? Asking cause I am unsure but would assume they did

The thing with Kane is , he's not a bad hockey player , he helps the SJ Sharks when he plays . If he was a scrub he'd be gone a long time ago

For sure. they probably do have an out but are trying to decide if its worth it.

I guess the question is: if he was actually betting against the sharks in games, does he really help them? lol.

I think the name Tremblay, should be banned from this site. It reminds us of too many dark years.

As for E. Kane, he's worn out his welcome everywhere,  so far. Teams couldn't wait to get rid of him.

I would have thought there would be some legality issues that would allow for termination,  player's consent not required.
