...I wouldn't have been happy paying a guy like Panarin the money he got ...I'd rather keep the Gallaghers and Domis and pay them fair market value down the road as they won't be commanding ridiculous sky-high money and term . The cap isn't going to increase that much so I see Montreal positioned decently well with some young guys still doing  bridge contracts in 2 or 3 years . In 2 years Montreal has gone from a prospect ranking in the 20s to a top 5 or 6 team . Bouchard is very much a key to Montreal's future .

On the same page with you on this - you also have to hope you get some draft surprise over achievers in the later rounds - Mete is a recent one and I do believe Cam Hillis, Jordan Harris, Norlinder and Jayden Struble - one or two of them could rise up

Since Dec 1st we are 7-9-1 (if I counted right)... 15 out of a possible 34 points.

That's a 72pt pace over 82 games.    When the big slide started, I knew this team would not be making the playoffs this year and I highly doubt they turn it around enough to catch the other teams at this point.

#Habs Price on dealing with team’s current winless streak: “I’m beyond frustration now. I’m just gonna’ play and do the best I can and try and get past any frustration or negative attitudes.”

Quebec Premier Francois Legault apparently tweeted a question of whether the Habs should trade Price and Weber, so it's become a public issue/question at this time... kind of like when former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre tweeted that the Habs should send Desharnais to the minors.

Ya know, when politicians and so called celebrities tweet out their thoughts on various ideas, I take them with a grain of salt. Their ideas are no more valid than mine, and I've been watching the Habs a whole lot longer that most of them. Price wants to win now, and IMHO, he should ask for a trade (that's what I would do), and MB should accommodate him.

The problem is.. what's he worth?   I mean sure maybe a team would give up a solid prospect for him but beyond that?  Dunno.    If we could get a haul of say a top prospect, an under 24 year old top 4 LD and a 1st, id be down for it, but im not sure any team offers us that right now.

Ya know, IMO, (similar to Legault's), he's worth at least a 2nd + a 3rd, plus a bonafide prospect, (similar to Suzuki). MB should put it out there for various GMs, and say, "what have you got", and see what happens at the auction.

Yup, I can see us dealing Price/Weber at the deadline if we're far enough out of a playoff spot.   There's always a playoff bound team that would be willing to be on Price or Weber helping them go deep.   Our window was yesterday ... heck, I'd say our window was 2015 to 2016 before Price's bout of injuries.

I just don't see Bergevin trading Weber and/or Price, unless they want out of course. It probably takes a new GM for this to happen though and I don't think it's the right move anyway. I understand both sides of the argument but I think having some key veterans around is crucial for a soft/hard rebuild/reset/retool, and those two are basically as good as it gets. As I've said before, if we're out of the playoff picture, I'd take a hard look at trading Petry or Tatar (and Kovalchuk) at the deadline. They'll both need new contracts after next season and neither of them is going to sign for less than 6M/year, so it'll be difficult to keep both anyway. Danault is UFA and Lehkonen, Kotkaniemi, and Fleury are RFAs at the same time their contracts expire, so there could be some movement I think.

I understand all of the microscope on and adulation for Kovalchuk - our fan base is so desperate for a hero saviour or some degree of positivity for someone to put the puck in the net!
I’m hoping we will have some player sales at the deadline for picks although I would keep Tatar and Petry, but if the deal is right for Danault then I’m ok with that.
I seriously doubt anyone takes Weber or Price with those contracts even if we retained salary

I would love someone to take Weal Or Thompson or Cousins but clearly I’m dreaming

Trading Price.

I guess if he wanted to go, I would accommodate it. I wonder if he's losing value among GMs already, though? His 2017-2018 wasn't good, and this season is shaping up to be just as bad. Bergevin signing him to that extension was the easiest thing a GM could've done. I wish he had negotiated harder, struck a better deal, or had never put himself in such a position where, really, what could he do other than give Carey what he wanted? That deal is going to weigh us down like an anchor for so many seasons.

Maybe Price

If you wish hard enough, maybe Bergevn won't extend Cousins and Thompson beyond their current contracts. Mr. Weal, unfortunately, is around for ANOTHER season after this one!

still believes in the club even with all the injuries and wants to stay in Montreal ...just a thought

I'm more inclined to wait till the deadline or when another team is desperate for a piece and there will be a flurry of draft picks thrown around  ..actually I like Thompson as a player ...he 'd be someone a team could want for depth and the penalty kill

Oh, to be honest, I don't have a particular problem with Thompson, Weal, or Cousins... It's just disappointing that all three are playing additional minutes because of our injury situation. Ideally, one, perhaps two, of them would be used sparingly on the fourth line. Not up and down the lineup.

i actually could see him trading price if the return was enough.  Weber, I think, is here till the end.  MB has a man-crush.

Agree.  Thompson is everything you want in a 4th liner and honestly cousins probably is too. Weal is a fine 12-13th forward.  The problem is playing all 3 on the same roster (with at least 1 in the top 9 and sometimes in the top 6).

But will Bergevin be able to get enough in return and will he get someone to take on his contract?

If nobody loses a job after tonight's disaster then we won't see a move until the summer at the earliest. Who say's this team hasn't quit? Looked like it to me tonight. Nobody knows how to play defense on this team. One turnover after another.

Like I just posted in the GDT, the chances of making the playoffs are virtually nil at this point. We have ongoing injuries whereby the players like Armia and Drouin won't be back for another 8 games or so. By the time they're back, the playoffs will likely be even further out of reach. So personally, I don't see much benefit to a coaching change. It won't affect the outcome of this season, and we're better off tanking anyways. I can see a GM change being useful, but I don't see Molson being proactive about anything, so I doubt it happens either. Best thing that could happen would be for the Habs to fall further back and to recognize that they should try to trade Weber, Petry, Tatar, Byron, and maybe Price. Build for 2021.

It's the GM change i'm advocating for. No way do i want to see him trading off for assets if we decide to sell at the deadline. Let the new guy put his early stamp on the future of the team. CJ has issues but they pale in comparison to MB.

The only player on that list that worries me about trading is Price. I know he is not his 2013-14 self but we still don't know if Primeau is an NHL quality starter or not. He has played well in his 2 starts but 2 starts is not 40-60+ both  McNiven and Lindgren were thought to be predecessors to Price and neither of them is more than an NHL backup or AHL tandem goalie. How many others over the years were also thought to be the next one? Until Primeau gets 25 starts and has 15+ wins I would rather keep Price
