RogeyMod
It's always nice to have more hockey fans here. Welcome! I like to stay up late to catch the west coast games, and the last few years have given me a lot of respect for the core in Anaheim. You've got a solid, fun to watch team this year. Vatanen, Rakell, and Gibson are really exciting young players that don't get talked about enough. Hopefully Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver can keep the Kings on the outside, and we'll have to start healing the friendship in June. Great teams & efforts beating a team doesn't bother me, but seeing the Kings a lot and seeing the intent to injure, constant diving and the rauncheyest fans ever is wearing on me. A lot of Anaheim fans won't even go to the games at our own rink because of how drunk and sickening they are. My move out of California can't come soon enough! Last year when we beat the Kings at Dodger Stadium they were throwing beer bottles at our ice-girls doing charity work on the field... When I was growing up, Montreal always won the cup, it's kind of how things should be in my mind. I miss those great teams. I wouldn't feel bad at all if Montreal beats the Ducks in the finals. Guest habs1952
Even though I was born in Chicago and live near Anaheim,I don't think any true hockey fan could ever disslike the Habs, or not be amazed at the history. I'll never forget being in Montreal and meeting and shaking hands with a GIANT, sweaty, Bob Gainey. In 1968 or 69 I lived in Tulsa Oklahoma and we housed players like Pat Quinn and Keith Acton while they were in the minors. I played goal, played 10 or so games as a teen in Vancouver and made it to the lowest, Semi Pro level of the West Coast Hockey League. I was in my car at a red light and hit from behind at 58 mph...end of my hockey career. So I'm a moderator on the Ducks board, but moving near Tampa, Florida this summer...so I'll get to see the Habs a little more! Welcome to the forum Rogey! MrBouchard
Well thanks all for the welcome -- & now my delayed reply I lived when the Flyers won 2 Cups in Philly (& rooted for Montreal though) in Philadelphia's 3rd year in a row of trying to win "Hat Trick in '76" -- which never happened due to Habs winning that series in '76. When Robinson beat Schultz in a huge fight (I saw it live on tv back then & couldn't believe what I was seeing) it really silenced his career, & Philly fans too, from yacking about his league (back then in mid-70s) dominance. He was really a made-up heavyweight back then. But Larry really changed that, haha. But guys like LaPointe, Lemaire, Laperierre, Cournoyer, LaFleur, Mavolichs, Bouchard, Savard, etc. were unreal to watch & I always tried to play like them though could never skate like any of them. So my point is, I remember this team for over 40 yrs now! Wow, a long time since I began liking them in about '75. Thanks again to you all aboard here & hope I can someday go back to Montreal to see a game. I remember the Forum was there last time I was there, but I didn't see a game as it was summer of '79, & I was a teen then. But I love Montreal as the BEST city in N. America, period. And anyone who knows hockey would LOVE to play for this team, as an original 6 too, but is THE team the NHL is built around. Toronto doesn't even come close in my mind, as a city or team I'd want to play for. Welcome to the forum MrBouchard! There's a lot of old guys here so you should feel right at home. Habberwacky
I have many fond memories of Montreal Philadelphia games. I was at the Flyer 5-3 Flyers I believe during their undefeated streak and Mr. Clarke ( I don't think I referred to him as Mr. Clarke back then) was hacking people all over the place behind the play. I know we were winning going into the third and blew the lead. The fans were not happy but it was a great game, and they ended up going on to break a streak the Habs had from a couple of years before. They always gave us a tough time and still do I believe. The Forum crowd never took kindly to losing.

JamesBradley
I am a die hard Habs fan, born and raised in Chicago. I am looking to find other fans that live in Chicago! My Blackhawk fans just don't get it. Anyone out there? Especially the south side, please reply! We travel to Montreal every year, but have yet to see a game at Centre Bell. Been to the Habs-Hawks game here though!

If pressed I guess I would say PK Subban Favourite All time Hab: Jean Beliveau -- but that he is on a different level. Favorite Hab not Beliveau is Guy Lapointe. I was a big fan of the Lapointe, Robinson, Savard d. corps The Bruins are my 2nd favorite team--I think this is the best rivalry in professional team sports. He's heavy into the blues and speaks in code though, but we'll help you through it. Also a big welcome to jpecci. That must be really tough liking both the Habs and Bruins. You must take a lot of flack over that.

Hockey_Holland
My story about how I became a Habs fan is probably the most 'weird'. I am from Holland by the way. Here we go: during the Olympics of 1992 I was watching television and at one time the Dutch television aired a ice hockey game. I had never seen this sport before, nor ever heard about it (back then I was 10 years old). It was the Canada against France game and without knowing something about the sport, the players etc. I just needed to instantly (for myself as a kid) to pick a team. I picked Canada (without clear reason, except 'feeling'). Years had gone by and every year I watched the world championships cheering for Canada. (I still never heard about the NHL). It was Christmas 1995. As a gift I got the NHL '95 game (and bought this game every year back then). I began to play and again had to (out of the blue) pick a team. Because I was a big Team Canada fan, I was searching for something Canadian. You can guess I picked the Montreal Canadiens (with no idea about the history, players etc.), because of the clear "Canadiens" in their name. I could never watch the games (internet was not a big thing back then etc.) and this is how I 'watched' the Canadiens: Every morning, before I went to school, CNN aired something called 'world sport' and sometimes they showed a glimse of the Habs. Because of all the trades my 'NHL game' Habs where not up to date anymore. I watched carefully to CNN to see if I could recognize some 'new' players so I could update my team (I remember I added Marc Bureau at one point like this). When time went by, I had (at my school) access to the internet, so I could pay attention to the standings etc. Right now I have access to Gamecenter and can watch the Habs. Games usually ends at 3 or 4 AM and my working day starts round 8 AM, so this can be challenging (therefore I don't watch all the regular games, but the Habs Playoffs games of course I will watch live). It all turned out pretty good for me, nevertheless I am waiting on my first Stanley Cup as a fan (if only NHL '92 had existed and someone had given that to me haha). jpecci
Thanks for the welcome -- the Habs are by far my favorite -- sometimes I really have disliked the Bruins in response, but those guys really had a lot of respect for each other. I became a Habs fan after my brother and I were blown off by a Bruin for an autograph and then treated really nicely by Gilles Tremblay and Jean Beliveau. Coincidentally, I read Derek Sanderson's book and he was blown off for autograph by Beliveau when he was a kid. It's kind of a funny chapter. freedom49
Hi everyone! I'm excited to finally join this board. I've been lurking for several years and taking in all the opinions and expertise of the posters here. I've definitely learned a lot and must say it has really enhanced watching and understanding the game. I don't have as much knowledge about hockey as a lot of you here seem to have, so I probably won't post very often, but I will continue to enjoy reading the posts and hopefully feel that I can chime in once in a while as well.
