I dont think Gui is second line material yet, he did great becasue he played with a great player like Koivu. And I dont think he can keep up offensively with Kovy and Plekanec. 3rd or 4th line is where his game is best suited and I think where he can help the team the most.

Actually I think his size, and ability to control the puck in the offesnive zone is key to this line being succesful. You have Kovy and Pleks, 2 guys who are not great at winning battles along the boards, they need someone like Latendresse who can help keep possesion.

Also, lats is great for Kovy because he'll stand in front of the net for a pass, stand there long enough and Kovy will make sure you get it on your tape, so this should work well.

The problem right now is footspeed though, he just can't keep up with these guys. Very often he's behind the play, or gets caught flatfooted in the neutral zone. He needs to work on his anticipation, and acceleration, but I still like him on the 2nd line. Despite his lack of speed he's still effective and helps the line.

That was the whole point in bringing him to the team this season and the reason he is now on the second line. To add the physical presence this team so desperately lacked.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you and Yukoner. I think Latendresse is needed on the second line. He just needs to work on his skating. I think his skating will get better with time.

That is where he needs work. If he had any type of wheels at all he would be deadly.

People were saying that about Luc Robitaille and Dave Andrewchuk just to name a few. I think that even if he didn't improve on his foot speed, he will still have a great career by playing physical and banging his way to the net as he certainly has great hands.

Not only that but, you dont need wheels to battle along the boards and fight for the puck, which he is excellent at, and probably his best atribute at this point.

"I am with approximately 85 percent of my capacities, it established. Look at me undergoing training, I am not able to follow. My departures are not explosive. They are like those of Guillaume Latendresse ", it launched to the joke, the time when Latendresse was pointed in the cloakroom.

that was translated from rds.ca from Steve Begin

i think its funny when the players joke with each other through the media

Lol I can't help but laugh at some of those translations from google et al. haha

CLOAKROOM!!!

HIS DEPARTURES AREN"T EXPLOSIVE!!!

lol

anyways, yeah Gui needs to be a little better on his skates out there. He's got good balance, but he looks a tad slow out there.

Even a Malasis can park himself in front of the net and wait for a tip or rebound like Guy does.

You don't really notice him being way out of his league because of his speed, the reason for that is because he plays a style that works around his lack of speed, He's an average skater, and compared to the Koivus Samsonovs and Higgins he looks slower than what he really is.

Either way, he could work on his speed, but its far from stoping him from being a good player, which is what he has been for us, a consistent, hard working, good player who is doing very well in his rookie campaign.

Link, point taken, but he really does need to work on his speed if he's going to continue to play with Pleks and Kovalev. He looks a step behind most of the time. Also, his anticipation has to improve. He works hard, but if he's not crashing the net, he's usually out of position. No knock on the kid; he's learning quickly and I'm pleased with his performance this year. But he has a long way to go in his development.

If he's taking longer shifts, it means he's not giving 100%, because you should be exhausted when your 40-45 seconds is up. Short, hard shifts get the results.

Yeah exactly when the shift is supposed to be over and you see the guy on the ice still he obviously isn't tired and hasn't been playing the game as hard as he could in that case I think the best thing to do with him is teach him a lesson and let him ride the pine, Or even do what Kovalev had done to him when he was in New York as a youngster and just started in the league, his coach left him out for 7 straight minutes because he was taking long shifts.

Gui gets too many important minutes for my liking, with his slowness i hate him out there in big situations

Get used to it, you will see it until the playoffs I think.

Just like the whole team, everyones sleeping on goal scoring. This kid has great vision, and hes great for battles on the boards, ive seen him with many battles with 2 people on him. Improving skating is something that he can work on but its easily possible. Having the vision and the stick handling on the boards this kids has makes for a great career, hes whould be working on skatting in the offseason, but other then that, this kid will be a good second or 3 line player his whole career.!

Agree. During OT when we had the PP Gui was out there instead of Sammy who got us there in the first place. He's always behind the play. I love that he can control the puck along the boards but.....ya know.

He is a tad slow out there, but MTL needs a guy to work the boards like that. He's so strong out there, and so many defenceman have trouble with handling him along the boards. I don't know about him havgin as many "important minutes", but i think he needs time on the PP.

he is out there a lot and looks awkward and uncordinated like a puppy at times, but that's just because of his youth. You can tell when he gets out of the puppy mode, he'll be stronger on the skates and make those plays that the veterans do to get the points.
