You think if he doesnt improve the next 7 games, he could be back in the Q and Kostitsyn coming up. I mean Lats hasnt played bad, but I dont think hes ready for an 82 game NHL season.

He's a 19 year old rookie playing 8 mins a game. Dont expect too much from him but hes our biggets prospect and Gui said if he made the team hed be staying for the season and apparently for 2 more afterwards. Let him learn the NHL game and adjust.

I know what u mean let him learn the game and stuff but i find him really slow and i dont find he fits onto our 4th line id rather koztisen who gives the grit line a speedster who can shoot if antying happpens. We dont need 3 bangers 2 bangers 1 europian sounds good to me. I know its to early to judge but he was getting but he is not as good as the media and all his fans project him to be.

Isn't it amazing the difference between pre-season play and regular season

I know it's only two games but he was non existent against the Leafs

Except for that one nice diving poke check that created an odd-man rush and forced TO to hook him and take a penalty.

But I agree, pre-season and now are polar opposites. He looks a lot more like a kid now but that was to be expected.

he's playing with begin and Murray and plays like 7/8 minutes a game...doesn't play on PP or PK either...don't expect too much for him!

I'd love to see him work his way upto the 2nd (3rd atleast) b4 the season ends...I don't want him to play on the 4th all year long and end up with 20 points. That's a really good way to ruin a prospect.

yes, I know.

But where exactly did those who thought he should have made the Team based on his pre season play think he was going to play ?

It wasn't going to be on Line 1 or 2 .

He had a great pre season because he was put in all sorts of situations and the other teams weren't playing their starters. So naturally he gives it his all and he looked good out there .

Now he's not playing in the same situation or the same minutes and he looks invisible , to me .

It's just an observation, not a knock on the guy

It's not easy when you've been a star on your team all your life and suddenly you turn into a 4th line grinder! and I persoanlly wouldn't mind seeing him on the 3rd with bonk and Johnson...and on the 2nd PP unit as well.

While I find him strong with the puck and a challenge to get the puck away from him I find his foot speed and timing a little lacking thus far. What I saw from him in the pre-season was a hungry wanting to establish himself as a powerforward in the NHL with every shift played being his last but I'm not seeing that. I'm sure the intent is there but I haven't seen any results thus far.

I dont think he was non-existant. I saw him battle against the boards, and he came out with the puck on a few occasions. I dont think he got too much ice time in tonights game, because I dont remember seeing out on the ice too often.

Truth be told, I was thinking he'd be out there with Bonk, as they shifted together a lot in the preason. And with a gritty, physical, scoring forward, you need someone out there with him that can move the puck well.

He'd definitely benefit a lot more from having either Johnson or Bonk on his line as opposed to Begin, just from the styles of play.

But I agree, he was put in a lot of optimal situations in the preseason. Once he gets comfortable with the league and the style of his linemates, hopefully he'll start putting up the points.

But realistically, with the linemates he his, he won't be chasing the Calder, that's for darn sure.

Yeah, I remember seeing him do that same move at least twice in tonights game. He'll get it sooner or later.

This is how you break into the NHL if youre an on the brink player. You play on the 4th line, you bust your hump on the ice and in the gym. You fight and fight and fight and you wait. You wait until you are needed. Then, when the time comes, and it comes for everyone who puts in the work, you grab your chance and german suplex it. This is true for everyone whether your name is Anttilio Huebesoblov or Joe Blow Francophone. He'll get his chance, if hes patient and he works hard hell get his chance.

I'm dissapointed with his play. After being touted as a hard hitting grinding player by the media and so on, he's been pretty ordinary. I've already been reading the excuses that I knew were going to be comming you know the ones I'm talking about "he's on the wrong line", "with the wrong players" etc etc . He's played two games and ...no hits.

I saw Begin and Murray give hits. None from Guillaume. Hes he forgotten already WHY he won his spot on the team?

With that said it's only been two games and more than likely he's still getting used to the pace of the big boys. Sooner or later Carbo is bound to remind him of his pre-season play. I'm still giving him another ten games, if he doesn't get moving by then I think he'll start hearing about it.

He is doing fine. He still has a lot to learn and it will take time. He is not playing a lot and he is on the fourth line. Let's not put undo pressure on him.

None of us know how good this kid can be... or will be, but he has to start somewhere. I have to admit though that I too was considering what the fourth line would have looked like during the last two games with Kos in there instead of GUI! He looked good to me last year and look at what Perez is doing on the third line with two solid defensive players like Bonk and Johnson this year. Problem is Kos isn't on the roster so we aren't going to find out anytime soon-IMO.

I don't see any of the commments as being overly critical - just good (and valid) observations, IMO. Personally I think Gui will get back to the calibre of his preseason play very soon - I also agree that he had some chemistry with Bonk -

I've been keeping an eye on this thread and I don't see anyone calling him a loser here. The comments were simply observations as it is a drastic down from the hype from training camp to obscur status as it stands. The media built him as a hero but they can't keep him there.

It's a long season, hopefully they will start to think about playing him more often.

I don't see or read the things that I heard and read about him for his pre-season play, that's all.

Not knocking him or anything

He was " suppose " to be Montreal's version of Todd Bertuzzi and he may still be or he may not. Time will tell .

There 's no room for him on the 1st or 2nd line and if you move him up to the 3rd line whom do you bump, Peroz ?

Peroz has been a bright spot in 2 games so far . I wouldn't want to relegate him to 4th line status .

I agree, we should try him on the PP, perhaps with Kovalev to feed him in open space, he has a shot for it. It would be advantageous for us to have a big dominating powerforward on against tired 1st/2nd liners, who just had the pleasure of PKing Markov/Souray and Koivu/Ryder/Higgins.
