I myself would tend to think the player did not want a longer term as, like you feel, he will get better and be able to get more money.

There is no reason for him to lock in for four years, unless of coarse Bob was willing to take a risk and pay more.

I thought about that too. It still would have been nice to see a three year deal as I think in two years Komisarek will be in high demand (by other teams).

I definitely didn't expect us to be able to sign both for more than a single-year contract. Great to see they both want to play here!

Why didn't you expect them to get more than 1 year deals??? They're 2 of our franchise players. They both love playing here and I think they realize that we have a very bright future. Komisarek is our franchise defensemen. He's the kind of player who plays with one team his whole career....MONTREAL =) . Higgins too. Well, maybe Higgins won't be a career guy here but he will spend a good chunk of his career here. Obviously I hope he spends his WHOLE career here but not many players these days are 1 team players.

I think the reason Gainey only made it two-year deals is because he knows, in the next two years, Komisarek and Higgins will be in the peak of their careers or their prime, and that's when they will start earning the money they will earn for the rest of their careers. They will get what they deserve, all in good time.

I think we should trade him, for a better defencemen in the point margent:

His stats (NHL)

GP G A PTS PIM

21 0 1 1 28

46 0 4 4 34 :o

73 2 4 6 116

Like who? Komisarek is a punishing defensive defenseman. He isn't there mainly because of his offense but because of his physical play and defensive presence.

he is our only physical defencemen if we trade him we wont get much back because he doesnt put up points and he is so faluable because he can rock the crosbys and ovies

Absolutly, we need him on our team to crush every attacker who crosses the blue line, and he is damn good doing this ;)

I would have to give him the title of the most underrated player that currently dons the CH. He's so solid in his own zone and we saw him put up a few points last year, even some shorties! The best part about this guy is that he's the polar opposite of souray. He's a defend first, score much much later kinda guy. He is exactly the kind of player bob gainey was trying to draft this year.

Trading him due to his point production would be a very poor decision indeed. He isn't there to put up big numbers, he's there to play sound defensive hockey, which is why he was paired with Markov (in order to facilitate the learning process). He's up there in the league in hits, and he can only grow better as he gets older.

I don't think he is underrated. Fans love him and think that he is a core player. Can't trade a core player. Big punishing player with upside do not come around too often.

A little head up for Komi's fans :

Dave Stubbs wrote:

And this weekend I will write a feature based on a wonderful talk I had today with Mike Komisarek, on how he's already getting ready for the season to come. That piece will run in Monday's Gazette, and of course, on Inside/Out that morning.

I'm sure this will be an interesting read, I like what Stubbs does and of course I like Komi :)

The Crushing hits he has laid on Tucker alone give him a "scapegoat-free pass" from me lol.

What has this city come to if they are willing to trade their most promising young defenceman because he flattens players instead of score

Oh yeah, when RDS has nothing bad to say about you, you're REALLY GOOD. That montage of Komisarek nailing tucker all season long made me giddy for days.

Yeah, when french media don't have a problem with the guy, you know he's solid.

Let's get serious though, Kommisarek is a horse back there, he takes care of his zone like no one. You never get rid of someone like this. He'll be a pillar here for awhile

Trade him b/c he doesn't have a high points total???

everyone on the team does not need to be a sniper or goal machine. we need guys like Komisarek on our blue line. He punishes people in the corners and is awesome in his own end. Im sure we could get something decent for him, but we really need to keep this guy. He will be a cornerstone on our back end for a while.

maybe the fans feel we need more goal scoring and less hitting :P

looking at the seasons Komi has had as posted above each year he has improved his overall point production, this past season actually tripling his overall point production. If he keeps this up he will soon be on par with Markov for points and he is still defensively sound.

Komisaurus is here to stay, regardless of how many goals he scores.

He doesn't score - who cares? Let Markov do the talking, he does the walking. You get out of line, he puts his foot down - if we lost him, we'd have to play Bubbles with Markov 24 minutes a night to make sure that Markov doesn't get taken advantage of. And I know that no one wants that.

So, Komagnus Eater of Worlds remains a Habs. Next topic...

Even to contemplate the trading of Komi is a joke, I wont repeat everything people have said about him but if you think he is big, punishing, defensively sound etc at 25 years of age....just wait untill he peaks. He is still far from his full potential. This is a blue chip D-man my friends, lets not even entertain the notion of trading him.
