What a way to make your 600th game memorable that's for sure.

People always rag on empty net goals but I think they still take some tallent. You have to be able to get the puck out of the defensive zone which is hard when you have six opposing skaters fighting to keep it in there. Then you have the pressue of "oh man, what if I miss the empty net."

But with Koivu last night, not only was the team able to get the puck to him he was able to skate around the TB defense. It was a great empty netter.

However, not as nice as his short-handed goal :D

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the Saku Koivu Foundation is still in working progress to take donations etc?

It doesn't look like he's updated the site since Nov, 2002.

There's the website.

Did they raise the money needed already?

I don't think they are still taking donations, as they have acheived their goal.

Awesome thanks. I've been wondering that for awhile now.

Glad to see they acheived their goal.

I found this article on Saku, some may have already read it, but it really gives you an insight to what kind of person he is.

Ps- he almost died of chickenpox - only our Captain K would have luck that horrible :D

"hockey association" is one word in Finnish? interesting... sweet shirt though :thumb:

Thanks, yeah I looked it up because I didn't want people saying "what does that say?" and me being like "uhhh I don't know."

Unrelated question to anyone who may know. Why did Mikko Koivu change his number from 21 to 9? Was it because someone else wanted it?

EDIT: Opps if you want to get technical it means Finish Ice Hockey Association.

He had to change it because 21 is Parrish's number....I guess he really wanted it so Mikko had to give it up.

Captain Koivu is amazing. The Habs couldn't ask for a better captain IMO. He plays his heart out game in and game out. And hey, look at his stats this year so far!

i really hope he has a career season, and i really hope he doesnt get injured

Same here, it would really suck if a injury would plague his record breaking year. I really hope he stays healthy all season, he's seriously due for one.

GO SAKU GO! Maybe Koivu will have another 2 goal game tonight against the Penguins. How awsome would that be?!?!?!

Even when Saku does not gget on the scoresheet, his play is usually awesome.
