Guest ExNHLpro
Quite hard to understand why he was't in the lineup against Buffalo, after his consistently good performance in the pre-season.
ct40
It's more than hard to understand, why after playing so well and so many minutes in preseason, he has now to start again from zero. Why are they doing that to him? Was he arrogant during the preseason and they wanted to just show him that he has still a lot to do before really being in the roster? koh19
yeah, really hard to understand why but let's hope this is for a game or two. He really deserves to play.

Pom
It would have been hard for Carbonneau to send one of the regular guys from last year in ths stands for the 1st game of the season. And Niimimaa needed to see some action with his new team. But I still think that Streit should have played... but how and where. As a 7th d maybe? I just hope he plays tonight to keep good pace. Swisshockey-ca1
The whole personal politic the Habs have done last season and now is hard to understand. It would be very stupid to sign a player to a new 2 year contract and then not let him play. I don't know much about Ninimaa, but Marky deserves to play. He will hardly ever improve his play if he never has a chance to.
lindros_jr
They should def. play Streit over Janne. Not only do I think Streit is better but Janne has no clue how to play with this team yet. Let him practice with the team then put him in the lineup. It was obvious last night he had no clue and if it wasnt for Huet it would have cost the team a few goals bc he coughed up the puck a bunch of times. Just giving him playin time to adjust to his teammates is not a good idea and that was clear last night.
franck5890
Quite hard to understand why he was't in the lineup against Buffalo, after his consistently good performance in the pre-season. I've always respected, and often agreed with your opinions ExNHLPro, but to be honest, with the signing of Niniimaa, Streit's hopes were sent straight to the gutter in my books. He had a good preseason, no doubt, but with these guys in the lineup; Markov Komisarek Dandenault Niniimaa Souray Rivet who can you really remove? Niniimaa needs to become acquainted with the team, and there's no better way than to play him (he did a good enough job out there with Dandenault last night--that pairing wasn't on the ice for a single goal if I recall). You can't sit Markov, and Komisarek would be tough to bench after putting so much developmental time into him, and he's playing fine out there. That leaves you with Rivet and Souray. Regardless of the flak they take from fans and media alike, they are leaders on the team; physically, vocally, and in the locker-room. Rivet often wears the "A" on the ice for a reason; fans are very ready to pick on the simplest of his mistakes, but Habs brass likely will not bench him. And, you never know what will come out of Souray. If he's on his game, he's good enough to be a top 3 defenseman on any team. I believe the Habs are going to continue trying to use his offensive prowess to their advantage... This would be the same sort of role that Streit would play, and since Souray is experienced, more physical, and has an equally good shot, why not go with what's tried, tested and true? It's tough for Streit fans to watch, I totally understand. I even thought he would have a place on the team after training camp/pre-season. But Gainey brought in Niniimaa, taking the 6th spot away from Streit. That's just how I see things anyways. I know some might disagree, but I'm looking at things from Gui's and Bob's perspectives as well.
Guest SuperHabsFan
It sucks that because of Niinimaa Streit can't play, I mean he has done nothing wrong, plus he played good during the preseason. Hope he plays tonight, but I don't know who should be benched for him to play.

And I think he's pissed off. I would be. But he can come back here to Switzerland. Any club would take him here.

I just thought that maybe Carbo would let Streit play for the first couple of games and let Niniimaa get accustomed to breathing Montreal air first. But let's see, it was only the first game and finally it's about the team, not individual players. P.S for you WinnipegJet: Just got back from a hockey game here in Bern, where Ex-Hab Bordeleau scored twice, Christian Dubé scored twice and Montreal-born Simon Gamache scored eight (8!) assists in one game. canuckhound73
I want this guy in the lineup. He had an amazing pre-season hes not doing anything wrong and Im sure he could do a way better job then the D's we got on PP right now. "Souray"
Guest hatethoseleafs
Its a long season and i'm sure he'll get some games in. One thing to remember is that if we run into injuries to forwards, that Dandy can play up front for awhile,,, which opens a spot on D.

Guest dopplig
Really not easy for him actually. He played very well and up to 28mins. in the pre-Season-Games - he really deserves to play in order to show his abilities. All my hockey-friends here in switzerland don't understand that. I'm looking forward to the next game and hope he plays in Philly next wed.

roy_133
I trust Guy so I'm not going to debate his decisions, there is a reason they went out and got Niinimaa, I guess they didn't feel comfortable with Streit... I don't think we will see much Streit this season, it seems as though he's 8th on the depth chart when Boullion is healthy.

flames4eva
Streit will play at one point, but not for at least another 5 games.Could be hard for him to get into the line-up with the results the Habs got without a loss so far in regulation... it's a shame... with some of the "D" struggling the way they have, the Habs may have been even better with him playing... hope he get's his chance against Philly.bw6
Swisshockey-ca1
I understand why Ninimaa plays... He's very well payed (2,5 Million a year) and so I would not make too much sense to let him sit on the bench.
Guest dopplig
Since i red on rds before the Buffalo game that Mark isn't in the lineup, i did not follow too much because my pleasure was blown away immediately (i watched not even on NASN which i have @home). I've seen couple of negative postings about some D with huge salaries; i.e. Ninimaa, Souray ==>they'd better trade them, save some money and let the ones play which are proud to wear the HAB-Uniform; the ones which are ready to give a 150%; not only for money, but for THE HOCKEY ITSELF.
