Don't we have too many defencemen right now? I mean when Bouillon comes back, we'll have 8 D, 8 starting defencemen. Even if Streit can be sent down (I hope he can stay), someone's gotta sit. And at this point, I don't know who it'll be cuz I can't see Bouillon not playing after his performance last season.

Streit should be in the lineup vs phily, id be shocked if he isnt. Ninimaa has been by far our worst D-Man, and cant play PP worth a damn, where Streit excels. Get Ninimaa alot more practice in our system, and start Streit Wednesday and Saturday to see how he fares.

I agree that Ninimaa hasn't really been up to par & I'm sure Streit would be a lot more solid than Jannee. Anywho, the decision isn't really up to us so all we can do is wait I guess...

I believe he has a one way contract, he can't be sent down. I could be wrong

No, you're absolutely correct. It stinks the way things are playing out. I really expected him to show dramatic improvement this season. Sadly that won't happen when he only gets to play a few games in between multiple scratches. And even when he plays, he probably won't get many minutes.

I expect Streit to end up being like Vokoun (yes I know he's a goalie), in the respect that he doesn't fit in our plans, gets traded, and goes on to be a key guy for another team.

One thing I thought about today was this...

Players that coaches want to get good, long looks at will get plenty of time in the preseason, and be played at optimal times.

A perfect example of this was Guillaume Latendresse. He was played everywhere at anytime; paired with centermen like Ribeiro, Bonk, even shifting with Kovalev at times if I remember.

In essense, the same can be said for Streit. He was played where the coaches wanted to see him show his talent. He showed his talent, but in the same way as Gui, what is shown in the preseason and the role played there often will not be the same as in the regular season.

I'd put markov, souray, komi, dandenault, ninimaa in a package for ribeiro back so that way streit could play...

you obviously don't know too much about our defense core if you're ready to give up someone like markov for streit. Markov is the Hab's mvp. I hope you're joking.

I reckon Streit deserves more ice time. He is an excellent PP D man. If he doesn't get ice time, he should be traded to another team. Maybe the Habs are not the right team for him

Give it time, when Boullion returns then Montreal will have 8 D men.

And when Cote is healthy nine

I would guess that something has to give because they'll have 3 guys sitting every night and not to mention they'll be extremely close if not over the cap

Exactly. And 3 guys constantly sitting out can be a cancer to the locker room. I can only see a trade coming where probably two D-Men are involved.

I dont think Cote is going to even matter. They can just assign him to Hamilton and never bring him up bc if Im right and they decide to bring him up they wont be able to drop him again unless he clears waivers and he def. wont. It will be Hainsey all over again. So I think Cote is out of the picture unless injuries and trades occur...With that being said I think Carbo needs to get Streit in the lineup and sit Janne and see what happens bc Janne is coughin the puck up left and right so why not give Streit the chance. I mean it cant get any worse

Yeah, I agree with you but it's a pity to trade one of the best PP specialists the Habs have got in the team. I reckon Niinimaa has been hired because Carbonneau doesn't really believe in Streit...

I think Streit would have deserved to play one of the two games. He wants to improve and he can do it ! But we have to give him a chance to play...

And if Carbo doesn't really believe in Streit, like wes said, well...really bad 'cause i'm pretty sure Streit can be a good player ! If we let him play, of course !

My verdict is still out on this guy, he's not bad on the pp but he just makes such stupid plays sometimes.. but I guess he'll come back a little more experienced this year and hopefully earn himself a spot.

If he ever gets the chance to play

He can be sent down as a matter of fact. The one wat contract just means he will be paid the same salary he gets in the NHL. A two way contract is where he wold get paid a lesser amount if sent down.

I reckon it would be a very stupid thing....better to trade him away and give him the chance to get more time on the ice in another team...

I would love for Streit to get a chance since he struck a nerve in me. BUT given the Habs D he should not. This is not about what is right for the player but what is right for the team. Why would you sit a better player to let a worse player play - the Habs are in a fight to make the playoffs and streit is oldish. But it's more complicated than that since Streit could (or not) one day be better than our present top 6 D if the coach would let him play.

I think that Carbo and Gainey only see Streit as spare parts and as sad as that is for Streit it is up to him to prove them wrong when a chance does come up.

I agree that when Cube returns there will be a numbers problem and a trade will need to be made. Who do you trade? .Not any of our top 7 D since our defense is the weakest part of our team. Cote is young and can sit; that leaves Streit.

As for Cote, I do not know what to make of that player yet. He may never be more than spare parts or not.
