Very creative and has that ability to make a play out of nothing, is a good skater and a passer and can shoot it well enough. If the kid had a little more size and strength he could turn into a 1st line center.

Agreed. He really stepped up his play in the latter half of last season. And his line was the most consistently dangerous unit in the playoffs. Smart, speedy, good hands and vision, defensively responsible, good faceoff man — you can never have enough players of this versatility.
I really like this guy too... he's listed as a left winger, good at face-offs as you say... but do you think he could play a role at center if things don't work out with some others at that position... and specifically the second line?

Well said. And he has a deadly backhand.

Listed as left-winger? Surprising. They had him at centre for most if not all of last year as I recall. Toward the end, he was the pivot for Perezhogin and Zednik. And in the playoffs, he became a faceoff maniac — I don't know what his actual percentage was, but it seemed like every time I watched the puck drop, he'd win the draw.

I loved watching his line in the playoffs, so hopefully he can keep it up. After Koivu went down in the playoffs, his line took control and I think he was the main reason for it. He's a hard worker, good PKer and could do serious damage if he can play better wingers , which it looks like he's getting ( Johnson and Letendresse/Perezhogin, as opposed to Zednik) He's basically a good, hard working player, who consistantly shows up, and frankly, I think more of our players should start trying to do the same. I predict good things from him this season. The fact that he's making only like $450,000 helps :D

35 Tomas Plekanec LW 5' 10" 189 Left 10-31-1982 Kladno,CZ 4th pick (71) - 2001 (3rd round)

I think, personally he could be as good as any of our centers and better than some (Kind of reminds me of Koivu, in a way, with his work ethic)

WOW. This kid really completed the Kovy and Sammy line. Geez...great performance!!! I'm very happy with this trade giving Pleks a chance.

man, too bad i coulnt watch the game, it sounded like those 3 were really clickin as a line. I also like Pleks, I thought he was one of the more reliable rookies last year, his work wasnt as apparent as higgins, but he was dependable night after night

I always wished Pleks gets a chance to center the Russian rifles and whoa, seems like these guys are really clickin'. No need for Bonk on the 2nd, I guess. Go Tomas, go!

Man, he's got to be happy playing between two fast, dangerous veterans like Kovalev and Samsonov.

I agree from what I heard tonight this line should be killer. I had my doubts if Pleks was ready to be a #2 centre and put up those kind of numbers right now.. Like I said I "HAD" doubts I can safely say I doubt anymore.

I love how in the Ribs trade thread some people were po'd about RIbs being traded and now there's no one to centre the Russians. Then all of a sudden like a Pierre McGuire BAM! Plecs is the #2 and tears it up. Plecs won me over big time last year when I saw him live. Now it's time for him to take the next step and he brings a lot to the table.

I like how guy carbonneau was sayin "it's all about coaching, when you have guys like Kovalev and samsonov who rely on instinct, you got to find someone who adapts quicky to any situation"...

that just goes to show we got a smart coach...smart management..and hopefullly a new consistent 2nd line centre

I thought all through last year that Plekanec could be our #2 center. I really hope that Carbo keeps Plek on the 2nd line. This guy is amazing.
