Guest 1970 Habs
Pleks doesn't need to bulk up or change his game. He's fine the way he is. He just has to bring consistency to his game and be a contributor over an 82-game season. The guy finished the season with 47 points, most of which came in the second half. If he becomes more consistent, he will be an excellent second-line centre instead of the good second-line centre he is now. I believe this will happen. Gotta believe. fourtrax
Well, we all know who he was playing with in the first half.. In fairness, Plekanec himself has gone on record as saying he was trying to do too much when he was playing with Samsonov and Kovalev. Essentially, he got away from the style that makes him effective, which didn't help an already ineffective line. In the second half of the season, he started playing his game, and the points started to pile up.

Guest original_6
I think Plekanec centering the same line of last year after the all-star break should be 1st line.....they have more speed than the first line and have great chemistry while the 1st line gets dropped down...koivu and ryder go good together but they've switched the other winger lots of times last year.... fourtrax
What kind of game does he play when he plays his own way? He plays an extremely simple, hard-working, north-south game. He dumps the puck in, hustles like a maniac to retrieve it, and sets his linemates up in the slot. Nothing fancy, nothing pretty. With Sammy and Kovy, Plekanec said he was too focused on accommodating their shifty east-west styles, which probably interfered with his ability to make plays based on specific on-ice situations. I think he spent the first half trying to be something he's not, and it showed. In the second half, he developed the confidence to be his own player, away from unsuitable linemates like Kovalev and Samsonov whose styles clashed with his. Also, I think playing with younger players like Higgins and Kostitsyn forced him to dictate the tone and character of the line, instead of looking to older veterans for cues. In all fairness, with those two as wingers a player has to do too much to make up for what they are not doing. Saku Koivu didn't seem to have any problems centering Kovalev and Samsonov. In any case, we're off-topic.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something around 65 either.

I like Higgins with koivu and Kovelev, since as you mentioned, kovalevs contract will be up and he will want big money so he will have to perform, and Higgins was on pace for 50 goals before his injury and he never seemed to recover completely but the summer will do him good. He is not a 50 goal scorer but he can definantly score 35-40 especially playing with the like of koivu and kovalev. I also think Latendresse can handle the second line, since he handelled the first line very well when higgins was injured last year. As much as I love pleks, I would like to interchange him and Smolinksi as he is a verteren who will help out Ryder and lattendresse and make Ryder more defensively responsible. Smolinski can also put up pretty good numbers. I hope Ryder comes back.

This line played well together at the end of last year and I think they will really turn it on if given a seaon to play together. Tomas is just coming into his own and I think he will show it this year.
