My God, is he trying to conjure the Bonk powers unto himself?! Just imagine.. a beard (he already has a goatee) AND a turtleneck - this could make our universe implode!

Im not a fan of the changing of the number... Confusing for part time fans, with all the trades, and now the changing of the numbers.

He had the best year of his career last season with that number, fans probably caught onto the pleks hype and bought his # on certain items, and now there stuck with a useless number

Should be a rule, once you have a numberyour stuck with it :)

Just my 2 cents..

Im sure there are many people on this forum who have played hockey before. As a 16 year veteran of organized hockey myself, I can tell you that I have had better seasons when my number 10 was available. It just makes you feel warm inside when you're wearing your favourite number.

 yeah, I know, grazy how it works between the ears éh. For years I always played with #17, untill I changed it to #47, and I go as far that I always demanded those numbers. Two years ago I changed teams, and right away I secured my number again. Good for Pleks he has the number he wants now.

Here's what I'm thinking...

Two years we made the playoffs and lost to Carolina in the first rd. That was Plekanec's rookie year. He finished that season getting the checking role, playing other teams top centres. In the playoffs he, with Zednik and Perozoghin on his wings, was matched up against Brind'Amour and he cleaned Brind'Amour's clock in the faceoff circle and shut him down on the ice, the only centre in the whole playoffs who can claim that...

Last year he got promoted to the second line with Ribeiro's trade. He clearly struggled with Sammy, and to a lesser extent Kovalev, on his wing. He played better once Latendresse replaced Sammy, and really took off after the mysterious Kovalev injury which reunited him with his Hamilton teammates: Higgins and Kotsistyn. Now going into this season, many of us expect him to graduate into a bona fide second line centre. But I think he will be called upon to anchor a checking line, as he did two years ago: when we made the playoffs :D ...

The problem is that Kovalev, Ryder, and Latendresse are not checking line players. But assuming we reunite Koivu-Ryder we have to find some one to centre Kovalev on the second line. Smolinski has succeeded with players of the stature of Palffy, Glen Murray, Hossa, Havlat, and Spezza on his wings. Plekanec has not yet succeeded at that level...So I think we could realistically put Smolinski on the second line with Lats and Kovy, and expect 50 points and a decent +/- rating.

To put Plekanec on the checking line isn't a demotion but a testament to the strength of his two way game. Higgins is a better player than Zednik was, and Kotsistyn can score whereas Perezoghin could not so this line could not only be employed as the shut down line but also as a shut down line that can counter attack (like Pahlsson-R. Niedrmayer)...If Higgins is needed on the first line, we always have Steve Begin who has found himself on the checking line in previous seasons, although our counterattack would not be as effective, we would be as effective defensively, and perhaps a little more physical...

Guy Carbonneau, one of the greatest defensive centres ever, must see this potential in Plekanec, and I think that to put him as a scoring 2nd line centre, who may not be capable of more than 50 points is a waste when we have such a valauble defensive asset right under our nose...

Interesting points but just remember that he got 47 points last year and most of them in the second half. There's no reason to believe he can't do more than 50 points if he's teamed up with Higgins and Kosty for the whole season. I'd rather start with him on the second line and have Smolinsky center the 3rd. We have Chipchura coming up to be that 3rd line center, Smolinsky is a quick fix until we know Chips is ready. We also have to let the kids have a go at it at some point and Plekanec might just be ready.

I must say I agree with you here.

Plekanec should break out this year.

His defensive skills are a real bonus.

If there is any truth to the rumours circulating all summer about Gainey looking for a centerman, I'm thinking that they must feel like Plekanec could do like Higgins, a natural center, and play left wing instead? I'm not sold on his size to play that position, but he's not afraid to go in the corners.

I firmly believe the window has closed and based on what he did last year Plekanec will start the season as the #2 centre.

Agreed. Plekanec is a smart, skilled player, and he's going to prove a lot of people wrong this year when they say that the Habs need a #2 center. He will be an offensive threat this year.

come on pleky, spice it up a bit !!! <_< he was not the worse on the ice but he could do more, WAY MORE... i wonder who he will play with when the season starts

I though he looked confident on the ice and I like to see that. If he playes with poise and confidence he will have a great year!
