Sheldon Souray

No matter how many times you say it, I'll disagree. There's simply too much more too it than that. Had he signed for something $6 million and above, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but when the difference between the salary offered and the salary taken is less than $1 million, I don't think it's a slap in the face unless you're talking about a guy set to make about $2 million a season (which is evidently not the case).

People can disagree all they want Jet, but as I've been trying to say all along since that offer was made, that offer was too low and it was confirmed by Souray himself. Now we are entitled to believe what we want, but I believe that he spoke the truth when he said it. The point where people disagree is whether or not he should have felt offended by that offer and on that, we have to agree to disagree, but he said himself that the first offer made him feel like we weren't serious in wanting to keep him and no one can prove that he didn't mean it. Fans can accuse him of not being solid defensively all they want, but I highly question the motives in questioning his integrity, other than wanting to be right or put him down, as he's never been anything short of straight forward when facing the media and the music.

When I go to the Oilers game this year, Sheldon better not be out injured or something.

Usually my luck goes that way.

When I really want to see one player I'll go and they're out injured.

I'm pretty excited to see him playing on the Oilers, sure it'll never be the same, but it's still Sheldon.

Thing is,something occured[sp?] before contract talks even happened,it just escalated to the point after bob made a ridiculous offer and then he made the scrambling last minute effort to change sheldons mind, thus having to resort to signing hamrlik because he knew he had to sign a dman due to no forwards signing.

As for speculation, you all can speculate all you want and make assumptions on what you think happened or interpret everything he said in a different way that makes him look negative.

He spoke the truth whether you like it or not,he wanted a long term deal to end his carreer as a hab,bob decided that wasn't his in his plan, now we have brisebois!

We could have signed Sheldon for any amount he wanted, but then any plans of signing a top offensive producer would have had to been nixed.

We gave what the market demanded for Markov because we needed him, we could not do the same for Sheldon as he has a risk of injury attatched to him. Always has. Signing Sheldon long term for market value would have tied our hands when it comes to improving our team for the life of his contract. In the end Sheldon didn't see the big picture and got offended. Bob wound up not getting the upgrades he was seeking.

It's all a big game of chance folks, sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't. I am neither offended that Sheldon went elsewhere. nor mad at Bob for not giving him more. It's all part of the business. And whose to say whether Bob's risk does not work out in the end ?

Well that part's probably true, in a sense. "Serious about keeping him" isn't that black and white, he was given an offer that would have made him one of the highest payed players on his team. I'd call that serious, but were we serious enough to completely screw any chance of getting a big UFA? No. Gainey offered what he could at that point, thinking that 4.5 would leave enough to make a pitch to Brierre probably. The way I saw that 4.5 offer wasn't a realistic one, but rather sort of like a qualifying offer for RFAs, anyone coming off a strong season is never expected to sign it, but it says that you're serious about keeping the player, and you want to start talks, but at this point aren't ready to offer a huge sum of money. After Gainey had tried at UFAs, he made Souray a reasonable offer.

I see nothing wrong with this. Why, because he played here last year, do we have to offer him big money before anyone else? After all, I'd say it's highly likely the Oilers offer didn't happen until after Lowe struck out with other UFAs. At a point when it was reasonable to do so, Gainey offered him a good deal (not quite Edmonton's). We had no duty to offer him the big money before other teams just because he was here before.

But where I disagree with him complaining about the offer and everything, is, that true he probably was a bit insulted and felt like we weren't that serious about keeping him, but on the flip side of that, were he serious about staying here, he wouldn't have just walked away, he would have tried to make a deal that worked for both sides. Souray complaining about what Gainey did is no different than if Gainey complained about Souray leaving for more money, which I don't think he did.

Im very happy hes finally gone off of our team, im just sad we didnt do it earlier, to get something in return for him, a 1st round draft pick or anything would have been nice

I wanted him traded @ the deadline, It didnt happen,

Which made me beleive we were going to resign him, which upset me.

Now that we didnt resign him or trade him, makes me even more aggrevated, as we got nothing for him

Thing is he put on this whole show, as if he would do anything to stay here in Montreal,

Blah, he knew he was leaving, if he would have told gainey listen im doing this for the $, either pay me a LOT, or im gone, well gainey would have probably thought twice about keeping this guy

My new nickname for him

BooRay

Kind of like Ray-Crap in the playoffs there,

Boo Ray!!!!!

Glad to see he is gone..

Enough Said, hes a old man with alot of injuries with a great year, which will fade away

Im very happy hes finally gone off of our team, im just sad we didnt do it earlier, to get something in return for him, a 1st round draft pick or anything would have been nice

Oh well

We got the picture on the first post. <_<

Edmonton got what we had last year last night!

Souray got a PP goal ... but also lost the game because he cant play defence... or cant skate.. they both apply to him.

didn't take too long for Shelly to score for the Oilers on the Powerplay!!

GO SOURAY!!! He will be missed.

Didn't take too long for his defensive inabilities to cost them a game either...

28 other teams dont have a sheldon souray on the powerplay. i think we will be fine.

and yes a souray mistake cost the oilers the game...big deal, not the first mistake he has made, certainly not the last.

\ but on the flip side of that, were he serious about staying here, he wouldn't have just walked away, he would have tried to make a deal that worked for both sides. Souray complaining about what Gainey did is no different than if Gainey complained about Souray leaving for more money, which I don't think he did.

i dont understand why people are having so much trouble realizing what you just pointed out.
