flames4eva
He will be on wednesday and be replacing Murray on the 4th line.-TSNIt will be interesting to see if Downey's speed and toughness will give the Habs more 'bang for their buck' on the 4th line... can't wait to see it.bw6

Guest CanadianMike
I am so happy he will be playing tonight....I watch him with the fans, & he is simply AMAZING! I know that doesn't count on the ice, but just sayin'. drop the gloves or score Downey.
lindros_jr
I guess Downey was sent to the hospital after taken off the ice. That was clearly a cheap hit! He let go of the puck and 2 seconds later he gets leveled. Not only that but it looked like he got hit pretty high. Hope hes alright. Probably a concussion
Guest Gabe3
Yes, RDS anounced that he was sent to the Montreal General Hospital and they're doing tests on how serious his concusion was. Hopefuly he'll be able to play on Saturday vs. the avs. But I doubt he'll be back tomorrow, that would be too soon to recover from a concusion. Probably a concussion Unfortunately in the NHL that was a clean hit It wasn't pretty but it was legal You're also forgetting the big discussion when Latendresse got kicked out of a pre-season game Hab fans thought it was legal Now the tables have turned as a HAB player took a viscious but clean check

Guest cup crazy88
after dumping it in the zone he got blind sided by Regehr.. it was a pretty big hit, Downey is a tough guy, he will recover.. Was the check clean?.. yeah it was, clearly shoulder contact... Thing is he had let go of the puck just before and he didnt c himself getting lined up.. How they dont call interferance on that is waayyyyy beyond me.. (what happened to like arm length + stick length? i mean i kno theres always a little cussion room but that clearly was a late hit).. So legal hit, but imo it merited a penelty.. (and of course koivu gets one later for interferance and he has closer to the guy.. beats me = )

flames4eva
Concussion guaranteedi prefer Murray anyways but sucks to see someone like downey go down Could end a career... but according to some... they'll say it's a part of the game and he shouldn't of had his head down... pretty sick if you ask me.Still believe it could have been boarding, charging and/or deliberate intent to injure... as well as interference... the refs could've called a major penalty the way I see it... and should have... I guess someone will have to die before they get it into their thick heads that violent play such as this has no place in the game according to the rulebook. bw6
Guest Gabe3
Just Got Home From Hockey, Wut Happened To Him!!?? I Heard It Was A Hit Or Sumthin!!?? It was kind of a cheap shot. Downey didn't have the puck anymore, but Regehr still hit him. He didn't even try stopping, that really upset me.

Especially that the refs didn't even call it. Downey didn't even have the puck anymore, and Regehr still gets a hit on him and doesn't even slow down before the colision. Guest hogtownhabsfan
IMO hits to the head shouldn't be in the game period. More crunching BODY checks and more fighting, but at the speed these guys play at nowadays a shoulder to the head can potentially kill someone. I've been saying this for a couple of years now, so it isn't just a overreaction to the Downey hit. As for Downey personally I hope he makes a speedy recovery, but like systemic anomaly said, I prefer Murray anyways...

Fighting is just as bad. If you get punched in the nose, there's a bone there that could literly kill you if it gets to your brain... But in another way fighting is part of the game, and refs break it up too quickly nowadays.

But in another way fighting is part of the game, and refs break it up too quickly nowadays. The thing is though, if you get into a fight and you get a hard punch to the nose you will just drop. I know what your talking about, that military move from con air, but I dont see anyone doing that in a hockey fight, lol. But wiith these open ice hits to the head you have all your speed and momentum slamming into someones hard shoulder who is also going full speed. The only real danger with fighting IMO, is slamming your head against the ice when you fall. But even that is less of an impact for your head, than someones shoulder when you collide and your both skating fast. You wont see anyone getting too badly hurt from a punch, especially when the puncher is off balance from being on skates. I want the NHL to do something similar to what the NFL is doing with hits to the head to a defensless player.
Guest voicemajor2000
I hope Downey is o.k. He is one of those guys who will BLEED Bleu blanc et rouge. One of those hard working players who shows up on a regular basis. Have a speedy recovery pal! As for the hit, I can't believe there was no penalty called on it. Guillaume Latendresse was thrown out of a preseason game for a similar, blind-siding hit. Everyone is making a deal about poor DiMaio, and how Gui's hit was a cheapshot. Well, if they are going ro lay down the law for THAT hit, then they should have give Regher at least a MINOR penalty. There needs to be respect for players' cranial health (ie concussions) or else there are going to be a LOT more serious head injuries in the future. Hang in there Downey, and get well soon. Guest habfan in leafland
The hit was clean. It was a bit late, but not enough for a penalty. It might've been charging, but wasn't severe enough. As much as i like Downey, the hit was hard and clean. Unfortunately, Downey had his head down and was at the level of the guy's shoulder. If this was anyone on the Habs laying the body, we'd love it! Especially if it was on Tucker!!!
