franck5890
just forget it...you are NOT getting my point! Don't worry, I'm not trying to defend or praise Ribeiro here, Mike. The thing is though, when you treat players a certain way (as an organization), there's bound to be some sort of backlash, good or bad. To put things into perspective; -we made the playoffs with him two seasons in a row; we didn't without him. (No, I'm not saying he's the reason, but just a different perspective). -he was fourth on the team in points with only moderate ice-time, and led the team the year before. He was essentially traded for a bench-warmer. Think about it. Regardless of what he said in that article (which is being taken out of context by some--he doesn't hate the team, read the entire thing), it's quite obvious there would be hard feelings in such a situation. Put it into perspective; if you were on top of the world in a scenario where you loved what you were doing, where you were doing it, and essentially told "you're worthless here" and tossed to the curb, how would you feel? Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not bitter over Ribeiro leaving, and I think we'll be fine in the future without him. But sometimes, spectators just believe that hockey players are lifeless robots without any feeling.
franck5890
I get your point. I think it's shocking how many people support the players who leave the Habs and then backstab/bad mouth the team and the city. If you claim you love the team and the city of Montreal you certainly wouldn't defend anyone who slammed it. He didn't 'slam' the city -- the worst he said were the comments on the media, which have come from the mouths of more respected NHL players as well. You're taking his words out of context; the guy wanted some sort of redemption for his treatment, and he's happy he got it. Read the full article--he still loves Montreal and will cheer for them again in the future. If I came on here and started a thread "Montreal Sucks - glad they didn't make the playoffs," it'd be closed it a heartbeat. I'd be accused of Flaming. But a so-called Pro player can say it and people support it. Not even relevant. For crying out loud, support the Habs and the city - if not then go and buy some Dallas jerseys and support them. No one is limited in their support of NHL teams or cities; you are a prime example, and I'm sure 90% of this forum is, including myself.

franck5890
How am I a prime example of not supporting the Canadiens or the city? Ah, you fail to read what I said. I said a prime example of not being limited to only supporting the Canadiens. Minnesota Wild. No where did I say, or even suggest that you fail to support the Canadiens; I'm definitely not that naive.

That is true, I have a love for the Wild as well - of course not as much as the Canadiens. But still - if Wild players were going around badmouthing the Canadiens I'd be singing a far different tune about the Wild. BTW anyone go to the Wild msg board? They have the mentality of 6 yrs olds over there - it's kind of amusing. But this is off topic. Back to Ribs...I still firmly believe he's a moron. franck5890
Back to Ribs...I still firmly believe he's a moron. Fair enough. But nonetheless, a moron who helped lead his team to the post-season, which is very much where I'd love the Habs to be.
Guest mateus
wow winnipegjet and weepingminotaur:cheer: to tell you the honest truth i dont blame the guy, i actually respect him more for having the nuts to come out and say it. want a list of players and so called "montrealers" who are REALLY fake? -vincent lecavalier -martin st louis -martin brodeur -sidney crosby? i dunno..."the kid"s got a few more years till that countract ends...and then will he still be a habs fan? im glad ribs is doing a good job in dallas and there happy to have him so here's to #63 lifting lord stanley's cup in 07! -Matt
fourtrax
I think it's shocking how many people support the players who leave the Habs and then backstab/bad mouth the team and the city. Is it badmouthing and backstabbing team and city? Or is it being honest about our failings? I don't give blind loyalty to anyone. If I see a friend doing something wrong, I'll speak my mind, and I would hope he or she would do the same thing for me.

Can't say less. BTW, the next time he plays against us in MTL, he should better bring some serious police protection because fans won't be very kind to him. In fact, I expect for some reaction like in Europe against "traitors" in soccer.
Guest JL
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=20399...990&hubname=nhlWell, maybe some people who were upset with Rivet might cut him some slack. At least Rivet never said he was happy Montreal never made the playoffs  Seems there was a bit of bitterness here though. Reading this only confirms the rumours about the kind of guy he is off the ice and makes me even happier to see him gone. It's one thing to think it, as I woudn't blame him one bit, but to come and say that to the media is the sign of someone with a total lack of class and with inferior intelligence as GMs take notes of such traits of character, I know that I would. I think that we robbed Dallas by getting anything for the scumbag, let alone a defenseman who helped us winning early in the first half of the season when we had 3 regular d-men on the IR. Carrying the $600,000 additional salary was well worth getting this cancer out of our dressing room, addition by substraction if you ask me. Here's hoping that the Canucks sweep the Stars, Ribeiro! Go Nucks Go!

Guest spankydriscoll
Hey Mike ! Have fun after round 1 knowing that Bulis is going further than you are !! Had no heart here, and is a total coward making those comments (although some may be true). One trick pony. Pleky had almost as many points and plays a MUCH better all-around game. Rot in Texas ! No sympathy here.

I know in Montreal it is pretty bad but still the guy wasn't innocent either.

tmash
Ah glad Dallas is happy with him, I'm still glad to see him gone. Besides, him playing under Carbonneau would have been a disaster worse than Sammy and Kovy, he would have been lucky to get 30 points. Instead, we gave icetime to one of the few players who seems to work well under our coach, doesn't have the same attitude problems, is better defensively, a more complete player, and could very realistically get more points than Ribs next season. Pleks will never have the pure offensive skill or vision of Ribiero, but yet will probably be just as productive and a better team player.

Guest Come Back Patrick
Ribeiro showed a lot of class and it's all low. I don't really care how successful he is/will be in Dallas, I'm still glad we were able to get rid of him. Never forget this: http://www.sportsargumentwiki.com/images/3...ike_ribeiro.jpg I'm just glad he no longer wears the CH. Good riddance.
Guest js2
I guess I'm also glad the habs didn't make playoffs. At least this way management finally noticed we need a superstar type player and hopefully they can bag one with their $28mil.
