Guest habs_fan1160
And this year he started out great, pointless for a few games, scored a few points in the next two, was pointless for 4 games, then scored again. Doesn't seem all that consistant. All I want to know is why is everyone saying he's doing so amazing this year, why coudln't he do that here, etc? He seems to be doing more or less the same thing in Dallas that he did here. And I don't know how you can judge year to year consistancy for a guy who only had 2 full seasons in Montreal (both with fairly similar statistics). For me a lot of the reason I never liked him was that smug teenage boy attitude.
tmash
For me a lot of the reason I never liked him was that smug teenage boy attitude. Same here. And I'm pretty sure thats why we lost him for essentially nothing. Or maybe Gainey HAD to take Ninimaa just to get rid of him Could it be Dallas was the only team willing to take Ribero, but their GM said "you have to take this overpaid dman off my hands for me to take that guy off yours " (not that I mind Ninimaa, but he is really overpaid) Okay I really really doubt this was the case, but funny to think about. I think Carb's was trying to add some depth to the defence when this trade occured. Ninimaa is a vetern defenceman who usually was pretty solid. I don't think anyone saw this one backfiring on the Habs. Did we get a draft pick too out of this deal?

We got a 5th rounder - they got a 6th rounder - so, same difference. It was a risk - that seems to have not quite worked out. A 31 yr old, former all star...for a one dimensional paper-thin scorer. Guest mikehabsfan
You gotta take the good with the bad. Trading Ribeiro may not look so good in retrospect, but at the time, it seemed to make complete sense. Ribeiro still isn't doing the greatest anyways. On the other hand, we made an insanely great deal, and got rid of Theodore at the exact right time (when he was in between his Veniza Trophy worthy self and his now struggling self - got him for Aebischer, a solid goalie). We saved up money and now have two hot goalies. PEACE, Mike.

The guys was more and more appreciated then theodore but sorry, the guys i'm sure and Francois Gagnon of Lapresse says that Kovalev will be more happier whit ribeiro now than plekanec. Did you heard the comment of the players after his trade? They seems like sad bout the trade. The guys whit the trade of theodore was more apreciated in the locker room and I'm read I think his here, he watch the super bowl whit huet and kovalev. So don't says gainey trade him just to don,t have him on the team. Dallas demand Ribeiro for niinimaa and Gainey took the risk

Dallas demand Ribeiro for niinimaa and Gainey took the risk There is no way that Ninimaa was that attractive that Gainey would lose his number two center for him. I am 99% sure Gainey decided it was time for Ribs to go, and the Dallas offer made the most sense to him. Ribs isn't the type of player you just decide to let go to fill a depth need. He brings a lot of offense, so when you lose him for a player with essentially 0 trade value, it goes deeper than simply "the price to pay" for that player. I agree with that assessment, I for one do not miss him at all... glad he is gone and good luck in Dallas. I really hope it keeps going well for him there. Great assessment. cant believe were still talking about ribs. its as if we just traded guy lafleur or somethin. give me a break ribs is way over hyped here. I think it has more to do with how niinimaa has played. remember when we got bonk (who had a rough start last season) and huet (who was injured the first half) everyone was going on and on about Garon. Now that Bonk & Huet have been stellar, no one seems to be bringing up Garon (who ranks 17th in GAA and 22nd in SAV this year)

Guest xxfannyxx
I wouldn't miss him a second even if he'd score 50 goals and get 50 assists because I know he wouldn't have had this success in Montreal anyway...Too much pressure for Mike. Guest AlexOscar
Well, he's always had a bit of an attitude problem and the best place he could ever be traded to was Dallas. Just by appearing to the practice, he knows there's no room for ego, just take a look at the list of players Dallas has. lol If he's to improve and in my opinion he already has, the best place for him is Dallas. He's surrounded by players who've seen and done it all. Hopefully he takes notice of that, and does not go on an ego spree. I wish him all the best. He has talent. Just his mental approach wasn't quite there. I'll give anyone a second chance. In Montreal he had his fair share of chances.
