Dutch
Which veteran , other than Kovalev's one game, has ? Fact is Ryder is on a one year contract . If he wants more, or similar money next year , from Montreal or another team, he has to produce at least the same as last year , point wise . The plus / minus is for another discussion Depending on how everything goes with and within our team this year, (how the youngster will produce e.a.) I think he has to be better if he wants similar or even more money, that is, if he signs another contract with us. If he goes, after having another season like last year, I cant really judge his value from another teams view. Its all up to Ryder, and I wish him a consistant and a convincing good year. Habsfan7344: I both appreciate and fully encourage your positive attitude...And I hope you're right in him resigning. Cheers. The bottom line is in order for Ryder to command the money he wants from ANY team; he's going to have to do the one thing he's done his entire career: Overacheive. Guest smoke
I guess eh, He thinks shoot frist, after he realized his first move would have been a gimme if he would have passed, he then thought 2x, What a shot by markov eh, off the post. The point I'm trying to make is that Ryder, in spite of the bad rep he's getting as a passer, still makes some great passes. His role however is to shoot the puck, as that's what he's best at. Guest smoke
I dont know, im thinking kovalev will have his 30+ goals this year aswell. Time will tell Seeing how bad the Leafs are this season (Losing 7-2 on wednesday night), and how often were playing them, there should be plenty of goals to go around

Well last night he was a +1. Just thought I'd mention it.

Diffently not a Kovalev when it comes to that area When it comes to the deke, no one is more frustrating that Kovalev. Sure he can deke 1 or 2 players at a time, but that's pretty useless when you always try to deke 3 or 4. A giveaway is a giveaway, and Kovalev had 44 of them last year. Ryder had 27. jigger-1
Really? I think it show's that he doesn't know when to shoot or pass Well, I'm usually one to point out Ryder's lack of passing ability sometimes but that assist he got last night on Markov's goal was a thing of beauty. Amazing pass on that play anyway. He also played well along the boards in the offensive zone. He kept one or two plays alive himself. He looked good last night...minus the fact that he couldn't hit the side of a barn jlast night and he fanned on an open net, but that's just preseason rustiness. Guest JL
Michael Ryder's on ice performances should be the least of our worries at this point in time. His future with the team, on the other hand...
Guest MTL_HABS_24
Michael Ryder's on ice performances should be the least of our worries at this point in time. His future with the team, on the other hand... Yup, I can't see him coming back next year and unless he scores 35-40 goals this season, I doubt Gainey will offer him a contract. If his production stays in the 30-goal range, I hope Bob attempts to trade him to a team who might be fighting for a shot at the Cup instead of watching him walk away for nothing like Souray did. tommyv
Had he not misjudged the puck on that one timer play during the PP, he would have fired a bullet on net, and this thread would have a whole different tone. He has scored 30 goals 2 seasons in a row, does anyone actually think that will suddenly change this year? Stop being worried about pre-season, the final result after the 82 game schedule is what i;m looking for, and Ryder will not be miles away from what he usually brings to the table. Guest smoke
I dont know, his 30, was kinda iffy last year, 3 goals in the last game. It reminds me of Bullis scoring 4 goals in 1 game, which drasticly improved his stats, Just cuz you have 1 amazing game, doesnt mean you have that great of a season

The commentators were saying that it was a bouncing puck and from what I saw on RDS' replay, it was a bit in front of him for a one-timer... In all fairness, I'm not sure I'd call that a misjudge. tommyv
as a Pro hockey player, i'm going to assume every player has hand eye co-ordination, I mean I can smack home a bouncing tennis ball during road hockey, you mean RYDER couldn't do the same with a bouncing puck? Thats why I call it a misjudge, he stepped too far into the shot, and with the puck bouncing, you no longer have the room to adjust your body or your swing to the puck. Either way, the point is, he would have had a 98% chance to score, based on goalie position, his position, and his tendency to be very accurate with his one timers. And with that, this thread would be much less negative than it currently is.

It's like saying if such and such hadn't gotten that penalty at a key time he would have been very disciplined. Or something. Anyway, I thought Ryder looked really good last night. That pass he made to Markov was crazy. And I don't think Carbo was too worried about the missed one-timer because he had a smile from ear to ear when Ryder came back to the bench. Price also took a crack at him about it.
