Guest Seventy-Three
What's up with this 2nd Ryder thread? Shouldn't we keep things going in the main thread?
Kindred
What's up with this 2nd Ryder thread? Shouldn't we keep things going in the main thread? the mods wanted to start a new thread on each player for this season. Some of the old threads were 40 pages deep. Kind of a new slate for the new season.
Guest banker002
some people say "but he gets so many chances/opportunities and he does not finish them....." to be fair.... A - lets give him credit that he somehow finds the right spots to obtain better then average (and more then average) scoring opportunities.....if some of his teammates had that "knack" the habs would be in better shape... B - as another person stated...his shooting percenatages are always near the top of the team....hard to argue with that.. If I hope to see him improve on any part of his game it is in his own end....hopefully the fitter/healthier/faster Ryder will prevail in that department... Guest Keith
Ryder had the third highest shooting percentage (.123) among our regular playing forwards last year ... same as Koivu, better than Kovalev. I don't think he wastes that many opportunities. Exactly, people are tricking themselves because they see him get more chances.
Guest KOIVU#11
Do you think if he has another great season that Bob will try to lock him up long term? It'd kill me to see him go anywhere else.
Guest Keith
Gainey will definitely lock him up for 4+ years, probably at 3-4 mil a year, as he is only a scorer.

I don't think he wastes that many opportunities. Think of it this way, the more he improves his game, the less chances he will miss, and score that much more goals. The way I see it, if he keeps improving, his goal production will keep increasing.
Guest Thibodosa
if he puts up the numbers he did last year and can improve on that.. more power to him.. it helps the team out,,, hopfully without the neck pain and i think that he lost weight(not shure) he can be quicker
Guest futon
He's been a pain every year to sign... i think he'll run for the most money he can get. He could have done that this year but as everyone knows signed without arbitration, and everyone figured he'd have gotten more. So I doubt that's true. dganney
Here is an interesting tidbit for those of us who follow this great Newfoundland hockey family: Michael's little brother Daniel has been named player of the week in Canada after racking up 11 points in just 2 games: he had 2 goals and 5 assists in a game against the Oshawa Generals, and 4 goals :!: and one assist in a game against the Ottawa 67s. http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/214285.html I believe both of these guys are the "real thing" and I believe the doubters will be confounded this year...
Guest gumper
Do you think if he has another great season that Bob will try to lock him up long term? It'd kill me to see him go anywhere else. You and me both. He will always be a top scorer, I'm not saying that he will be the next Sakic or anything, but he will be a consistent 30-40 goal scorer. I will look forward to seeing him play all of his career and pray to god we dont trade him.

However-the same could be said for a lot of guys on this team.
Guest Habsfan_11
When I watched the preseason game on RDS, i kept my eye on Ryder and I wanted to see just how much he "slacks off" in the defensive end, and how "slow" he is, and how often he just "gets the puck and shoots it." If that game was at all an indication of the rest of the season for him, then I think we're in for a treat. He looks like he's stepped up his skating ability, and he seemed to work hard in the corners too. He does have a tendency to shoot more often than pass, but I guess that's the difference between a goal scorer and a playmaker.
Guest banker002
He could have done that this year but as everyone knows signed without arbitration, and everyone figured he'd have gotten more. So I doubt that's true. I agree with you futon...i hardly consider him being a pain ...when you are initially offered well below market value for your services i do not call negotiating for a fair salary being a pain...he probably would have received more in arbitration if he had chosen to see it through

Guest Seventy-Three
A little off-topic, but.... Ryder Named OHL & CHL Player of the Week The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Peterborough Petes’ forward Daniel Ryder is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 1, 2006. Ryder, a third round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2005 scored six goals and 11 points in two games, last week. He is currently tied for the lead in Ontario Hockey League scoring with 13 points in four games. Ryder kicked off his week last Thursday with two goals and four assists leading the Petes to a 7-2 victory over the Oshawa Generals. The next night he was in on all of the Petes’ scoring as he exploded for four goals and added an assist in a 5-1 road win over the Ottawa 67’s. Ryder who last season won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the most valuable player in 2006 OHL playoffs, was named first star of the game in both contests. In addition, Ryder was also named Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week as a result of his scoring prowess during the second week of the 2006-07 OHL season. jigger-1
A little off-topic, but.... . ....just how off topic depends on whether there is a blood relation or not between the two. Are they brothers?
Guest NewfieHab
Yes, they are brothers. Daniel is a bit better of a skater at his age then Michael was at the same age. Some decent size and a great shot, just like his brother. He may have a little more of an all around game then Michael did at the same age. Guest gumper
too bad calgary picked him up instead of us..... but anyway back to topic I think he will get close to 40 goals this year, he is no longer as slow as before and that was one of the things all those Ryder haters kept pointing out over and over...maybe he can show them this season that he is a great player.
