IT has only been 2 games. Ryders value is still approx $2MM. Let's wait and see what he does for 1 season before giving $4MM. I love Ryder but there is no way in hell that he is worth anything more than $2MM at this point in the year.

Bob has his work cut out for him next year in regards to negotiating salary's

Four D men become UFA 's ( Markov, Souray, Rivet, Niimina )

Bonk, Aebischer and Johnson are UFA's

I think Ryder, Higgins, Komisareck are all still RFA 's but only have one-yr contracts this yr

Ryder will command bigger $'s if he puts up another 30 + goal season

If he puts up 50 to 60 points he should not make more then 3.5 million. 3.25 sounds fair.

Samsonov- 23 goals 30 assists 53 points in 74 games (on pace for 59 points) 3.525 million

Morrisson- 109 goals 37 assists 56 points 3.2 million

So there are only 3 overpaid players from the 45-65 point forwards last year.

Hejduk, Morrison and Samsonov at 3.8, 3.525 and 3.2 milion respectively. The reason is they had off years but have proven in the past to be 3 very good players.

Now Judging by that Ryder deserves around 3 million give or take. Unless he has 65 points or more this year, then he'll be a 4+ million dollar man.

I agree. It is all obscene really. I am here arguing that Ryder should have gotten more money when really, he should have taken his $2.1 million and be eternally thankful that he wasn't processing crab for a living. You really can't beat the NHL "stamps".

True enough. As ive said before, I make very good money & to equal ryders one-year salary it would take me just under 30 years. Ouch. Anyway, I chose to be a graphic designer rather than a hockey player (ok, i didnt choose it, but if i had been a hockey player Id probably be making LESS than what im making now! lol) so I shouldnt complain :D

I would be surprised if Bob doesnt try to lock up Ryder long-term this season. Last year he didnt lock up a lot of people long-term. why? well most were going to be RFA, so there was no immediate need. And secondly, he probably wanted to see what the salary cap was going to do (there were no guarantees it was going to go UP, after all).

It's not about taking 2.1 and being grateful, it's about NOT taking 1.0 million when you've proven you're worth more.

great job on the research on the salaries above.....

ryder is worth 2-2.5 now.....if he nets 35 G and or 70 points....3-3.5M next year....

i agree with samsonov being overpaid.....man - why didn't they sign someone else for that kind of coin....(perhaps they tried and they would not come due to high taxes etc)....

hopefully ryder gets 17-20 minutes a game this year...his ice time tailed off last year under gainey....

he is avging 16.15 minutes in first 2 games...6TH highest forward on the team...4 minutes behind higgins, koivu, kovy ....and also behind plekanic and samonsov...

i know the other guys are going to get PP and PK time but carbo should really try to maximize ryder's PP time...afterall - he does score most of his goals on PP....

i noticed he was not out on the 5 on 3 the other night while higgins/koivu were..that makes no sense to me..

Well, I guess I was "flamed" by gottahabit?

I fully understand that salaries are comparative. If you read my posts above, my point has been that although Ryder's salary in and of itself is not bad, it is when you compare it to Ribeiro's 1.9 million given to him without having to set the matter down for arbitration that your blood really begins to boil. I don't care what anyone says about Ryder (well, that is not true as I defend him all the time), but getting anywhere near the salary that Ribeiro gets is an insult.

Hi, do you think Ryder will surpass 30 Goals, 60 Pts this year?

I just hope he stays healthy!

Thanks!

Ryder should exceed 30 goals this yr. If he does not get hurt and stays on Koivu's line I think we are looking at 35 to 40 goals.

I think we will have a lot on 20 goal scorers in Mtl, Higgins my get 30 goals.

well he did average over 16 mins of ice time in the first 2 games, with PK and such, only so muhc time to go around, i don't think it is so horrendous...

He's also playing smarter too, he knows what to do off the puck, he takes line changes himself when he knows there's someone better on the bench for the job, he knows what he will do with the puck before he gets it, which has really helped his offensive game.

A big reason for his lack of ice-time is 16 penalty minutes--almost a full period of hockey where Ryder isn't used.

So Ryder fans needn't worry or rise up in anger, management isn't "doubting" him, nor have they lost their faith.

And, Ryder had a heck of a game tonight. Anything I criticized him for last season has been fixed; he's willing to get gritty, he's faster, better with the puck. Way to go Ryder!

I totally agree with you Jet. He looks more mobile and agressive and getting a lot more chances because of it. He played really well tonight, I thought. It almost looks like he has improved almost every aspect of his game. Way to go Ryder!
